Schulich India MBA - Admissions Query Thread

@ Mudit

To your query on the work permit.. I'm sorry I missed it earlier -
You'll fall under criteria 2. The CIC considers it to be a two-year program. You're studying with a Canadian university in their "two year program", with the "first year" being in India, and "second year" in Toronto. In essence this is actually a 16 months MBA for you still. The fact that you are a student of Schulich's Full Time MBA suffices that you will be eligible to apply for a Post Graduate Work Permit for Skilled Labour.

Hey Nishant,

I agree with you that it is a FullTime program but its one of its own kind(fulltime prg wherein a student stays only for 9 months in Canada).

On CIC website, by fulltime program they mean, a prg whr a grad should have spent minimum 16 months in Canada.

So, I dont know what they will look for: fulltime or 16 months or both...

Thats what my query was...

Also, you mentioned in one of the thread that you are attending placement information sessions. So, has the placements started, does anyone from India MBA batch got lucky till now? What is the annual compensation they are offering ?

By the way, if you would like to tell, you are into which specialisation ?

Regards,
Mudit

Student-run threads cannot be deemed 'official'. Yet, this is good work. Please continue it, I have renamed the thread in line with PG's naming conventions.

@Mudit

Understand it this way - You're a studnet registered with a Canadian School for full length of the program, and not just for the time when you study in Canada. So this is a full time MBA program, with first half on the school's India campus and the second on the school's Toronto campus. And the CIC is aware of the same.
Now, your stay in Toronto is for the curriculum of "Year 2" of your MBA, which is actually for 9 months. The CIC understands this as one full year i.e 12 months. Hope I have answered your question.

Best,
Nishant

Company Information Sessions

Information Sessions are ON - most of the banks, consulting and marketing / retail firms have visited the campus. This goes on till March.
Yes, application deadlines for the banks are almost over so they have made first round interview calls.
5 students (CIBC Technology Leadership Associate Program), 3 are from India cohort.
RBC has given calls for Finance Management Development Program - 1 call for India cohort student. I'm not aware of the total number of calls as of now for FMDP.
People have got calls for Investment Banking, Trading and Sales, Corp Lending and Treasury from TD Bank, Scotia Capital and CIBC - 6 calls for India cohort; I'm not sure of the exact number for Schulich - should be 10-11 - will try to lay my hands on the numbers.

Results for all other positions and industries are still awaited. Career Centre makes such numbers official around April-May next year - when almost the entire process is complete. People are not really dependent - and should not be - on the info session season on campus. Companies have postings on their career portals, and students do apply to them. However, needless to say opportunities coming on campus are mostly for MBA grads only and not for external applicants, and have a more strctured career map planned.. so if one gets through them nothing like it - rest of the MBA goes in peace :-)

For renumeration - refer to my previous queries - I've mentioned link to the CDC Portal there. This year numbers wont vary much compared to 2009.
I'm specialising in Financial Services and Strategy.

Cheers
Nishant

Schulich India Program

Hello All,

Congratulations to all who've received the Final Admit Calls from Schulich!!
Some of you have been curious to know regarding the accommodation part while your stay in Mumbai. So I can share with you my experience from the previous year.

You have a few options as follows:
Accommodation on the SP Jain Campus
Costs around Rs. 90K for entire 6 months
Twin sharing basis, Air conditioned rooms
This is the same hostel as those offered to Executive MBA and PGPM Class at SP Jain - so you get a chance to gel well with them too (though you'll have ample avenues to do so through various on campus activities)

Off-campus options
The campus is in the busy Munshi Nagar area of Andheri west in Mumbai. If you can make groups of 3-4 (or are accompanied by your family) you can also go for a 2-3 BHK apartment - there are loads of options near the SP Jain campus. I went for this option.

Food
There's a Vegetarian Mess on Campus. Food is good - both in quality and taste, and at very reasonable prices - Rs 1000 for about 30 meals.
There's also a Cafetaria - which is more than the "typical canteen" we're used normally to - can bank upon this when you have to grab a bite before hurrying for your morning class.
Many other good veg / non-veg restaurant options surround the campus.

Don't bother to cook on your own - you wont have the time to do so :-)

Feel free to keep writing-in ..

Cheers
Nishant
MBA Class of 2011
Schulich MBA in India Program

Hello,

I have gone through the details for the MBA in INDIA option.Do you'll have multiple intakes in a year or is it just one whose deadline has passed for 2011-2013 programme.

Ambar.

Schulich is still taking applications for our Schulich in India class of January 2011. The deadline has been extended so that there is time to build the best class.
You must get started if you are interested.
Go to the Schulich Web site to apply today.
www.schulich.yorku.ca

To the Accommodation part once again..

I strongly suggest go for Off campus accommodation only if the distance from campus is walkable. Mumbai traffic is a pain, and no wonder you'll find yourself stuck in a jam when your presentation is due in the next 15 mins.

A taste of the Schulich MBA in India experience

People have been asking about gesture lectures and the professors at Schulich India. I did mention a few eminent names such as Dr Ashwin Joshi, Dr Pat Bradshaw and Gordon Roberts in my initial posts.

Now you can actually get a taste of their teaching methodology through the short lecture series uploaded on the Schulich India MBA webpage. See the "Master Classes by Schulich Faculty" title in the left pane.

Let me know if people are interested to see more such content on Schulich India's guest speaker series too.

Hi,
I want to know how to send the transcript. I have applied for Schulich winters program but my transcript is still on the way.

Is it mandatory that the univ. send the transcript directly to schulich or we can also send it ourselves?
Thanks.

Hi there,
you can send a certified copy of your original transcripts, as well as your diploma. These need to be certified by a notary.
Good luck.

Hi Nishant,

Firstly, thanks for answering all the questions I had regarding the program so far. I hope that I'll get further help from you when needed :)
Secondly, is there already an existing forum OR one that is going to be created for discussions on FB for the admits in the 2011 batch? It would help get us connected before the program begins.

Hi Guys,
My name is Ashish Sharma.
I have an admit for the Schulich India MBA program that starts Jan 03, 2011.
In this regard, I wanted to know if anyone is from Bangalore who already has an admit? We could meet, get to know each other and discuss how to go about things before the course starts.

Looking forward to meeting you all in Jan.

- Ashish

Hey ashish..this is ujjwal from ahmedabad. I have joined schulich india mba 2011. We have a facebook page and seperate pagalguy page as well. you can join the same and start a discussion on facebook page. 😁

Folks,
From here on, apart from the regular queries regarding the program, from here-on I'll be sharing some interesting information that should be helpful before you start in Jan '11, in my "What Between Now and January" Series.

During the program, you will have the opportunity of attending guest speeches from a gamut of industry experts - both from withing India and overseas.
Attached below is a Video Series on "Using Social Media For Competitive Advantage" - This was a lecture delivered by Shira Abel-Shvo at the Schulich India Campus in February.
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
Part Five
Part Six
Part Seven
Part Eight

Shira is the Director of Marketing at Aniboom and Principal at Abel Communications . She's a strong proponent of marketing through social media channels and is also an alumnus of the Kellogg-Schulich Executive MBA program. Please bear with me for the video quality.
Click here to see a list of industry experts who visited the campus from Jan to June '10. This is just a crisp list - there were 28 visits in all.

Thanks Ujjwal for informing everyone on the FB initiative.
You all might also want to join the Schulich Graduate Business Council Group on Facebook. This will connect you to the students from both Toronto and India campuses. Graduate Business Council (GBC) is the umbrella student body over all clubs and student-faculty and student-industry interactions at the Schulich School of Business.

Hello Nishant, hope you are enjoying your study at toronto. I had a question regarding Visa processing time. Can you tell me in approx how many days after applying for visa can i expect my passport back ?

Also i had a question regarding scholarship for this course. I have received my offer letter but it does not mention anything about scholarships. Do i need to apply seperately for it ?

Thanks Ujjwal for informing everyone on the FB initiative.
