Hello Nishant, hope you are enjoying your study at toronto. I had a question regarding Visa processing time. Can you tell me in approx how many days after applying for visa can i expect my passport back ?
Also i had a question regarding scholarship for this course. I have received my offer letter but it does not mention anything about scholarships. Do i need to apply seperately for it ?
@ Ujjwal - you may write to the Student Services and Admissions Section to discuss the possibility of a scholarship. See the next post on Visa Processing.
I applied for my Visa in the first week of December and got the call for Medical Examination after 9 days. The medical center sends the passport back to VFS (visa processing agency) and then I got my visa in the next 10 days. All in all 20 days almost. This was X-mas vacation time, and most officials were on leave. Moreover, its rush time due to Winter intakes in most overseas B-schools. All this got me worried if I'lll have my Visa on time. So I strongly suggest to apply well in advance.
Hello Nishant, First accept my profound thanks for this selfless work of educating and making people aware.
Well, I am Rahul. I have done my graduation in Aerospace Engineering and has a 4.5 yrs of experience. I have worked in technical department as an Aerospace Analyst for 2.5 yrs. Based upon my performance and inclination, I have been promoted and transferred to Business Development & Strategy. For last 2 yrs, I have been handling the portfolio of Asst. Manager.
For lack of better words, I woke up late and got to know about Schulich's India programme. I am yet to give my GMAT and have planned it in November. Despite, I am aware that the deadline for application for Jan 2011 program happens to be 15 Oct. 10, one of your thread suggested that the deadline has been extended.
You would be of great help, even otherwise, if you could evaluate my profile and let me know what GMAT score will help me to sail through. Also, will I still be able to apply for the program if I appear for GMAT in Nov.?
@ Rahul - Thanks for your comments, and it has been a pleasure.
To your query regarding the application, I know that admission offers have been made to most short-listed students and interviews are under-way for the ones who applied lately. You might want to quickly check with the Students Services and Admissions office on this. Contact details are on the Schulich India MBA portal.
Also, I strongly suggest you to plan your GMAT earlier - in any case Novermber would be far too late.:|
Its great to see you taking up all these queries even after having such a busy schedule...Hats Off to you ..man!!!!!
It has been a while since my last post....so I would first give you a quick update on my admission process...
1. I sent the 2500 CND$ ad confirmation draft (as per your advice) a week ago and have received a mail from Carol confirming its receipt and consequent confirmation to the Schulich MBA in India FT-2011 program. So officially I am your junior now...;).
2. I gave my IELTS exam on 9th of oct and am waiting for its result that will be out on 22nd of this month. I will start my VISA procedure after that.In the meantime i am collecting docs required for VISA application.
The first question from my side regarding VISA application is related to proof of funds.I am not applying for loan to fund my studies as my dad and mom will be sponsoring my studies. The funds that i will be showing as part of it will mostly be my dad's and mom's Fixed Deposits in various centralized banks, dad's PPF statement, dad's bank account savings, my shares, my bank account savings, my PF account etc. Total amount that i can show as proof of fund comes out to be more than 30lacs. so,In-order to show these FD's as fund for my studies what docs would i need to produce at the VISA office? Is it a safe bet showing funds as these or should i opt for a loan?
The second question is regarding accommodation at SPJain. Yesterday i received a mail from Carol regarding the accommodation being offered at campus by SPJain and she asked to confirm whether i m interested by end of November. So whats your take on the accommodation being provided by SPJain? Is it worth or should we explore off-campus options as-well?

@ KIKA - Congratulations on your admission and welcome to the Schulich family
No you're not my junior. We're peers ... I'll be looking forward to learning a lot from you as well :-)
That was on a lighter note.... For your other queries on Visa and Accommodation read my posts below..
Your admission letter must have mentioned that you don't need an English language proficiency test - IELTS / TOEFL. So you don't need that for you Canadian Visa. However, if you do have time do appear for IELTS - you'll get an extra point if you apply for a Canadian PR at some time in future.
Download the Visa application checklist from the VFS website, and follow it religiously. Not sure if the rules have changed now, but you need to submit your Bank Account Statements of last 18 months and IT returns of Past 3 years ONLY, along with your Visa application. Attach these two for your sponsors as well (in my case my parents were my sponsors so I attached their ITRs and Bank Statements too). Attach the bank loan approval doc if you're going for a bank loan. However, calculate the SUM TOTAL of value of ALL liquid / ill-liquid assets in the name of your sponsors and your name, and mention that figure in the place where they ask you for "Funds available to support your stay / education in Canada". Dont attach any docs if they've not asked for it.
IMP - Pls get in touch with a VFS rep or a Visa counselor for any further queries on Visa - and the thoughts mentioned above are solely based on my own experience and have nothing to do with the current rules ACCOMMODATION
Regarding facilities in on-campus accommodation and and options off campus read my posts on pages 2 & 3 earlier. As mentioned earlier - I suggest group together with other Schulich India MBA students who've secured admission and look for something near to campus - if you plan to stay off-campus.
1. Is the travel cost included in three week module course? If not,how much one should budget for travel? 2. Has anyone prepared a ballpark ROI spreadsheet for a typical Schulich MBA in India student? If not, what would you suggest me if I want to prepare one?
1.are we eligible to sit in placements for both spjain and Schulich? 2. Do we have the same fees for spjain-schulich and 2 year schulich? 3. Is there any difference in placement opportunities for 2 year schulich as compared to spjain-schulich.
I m unable to find the fee details on either school's website, though I have checked the fee for 2 year schulich program.
This is a Schulich MBA. The Indian government required that as an international school we needed an Indian Partner to teach in India. SPJIMR graciously agreed to be our Indian partner. They have provided space on campus for us to teach our classes and to house students who want to live on campus. The teaching is done by Schulich professors for the most part. however there are a couple of shorter courses in our core that are taught by SPJain faculty. You can go to the Schulich web site to check out master classes of three Schulich Professors who have taught in the program some of whom will be teaching again this year.
Your placement opportunities are managed by the Schulich Career Development Centre. That office works with students from the first day of the first term until placement has happened. The students in this stream have a broader reach because the school helps them to build an Indian network as well as a North American network.
The fees for the Schulich in India students are different than those on the main campus. web site information is difficult to find so here it is.
IN year one students in this stream pay 12,000 for tuition. this is divided into two payments. half by the first week of January and half by the first week in April. Students also pay in first year for course fees (2000) In August these same students travel to Toronto for the 3 week integration modual. This has a fee of 3000 attached. In September students Pay for term one of year two - 15,000 plus course fees (this will vary depending on course choices) In January students pay for term two of second year - 15,000 plus course fees (this will vary depending on course choices. Students also pay for housing and food, and other costs of living...this will vary. Student who spent the first year in Mumbai last year indicated that they spent about 3500 on room and board in Mumbai... then coming to Toronto these charges will go up to abotu 10,000 for the remainder of the program.
This is a subsidized program so that there is a substantial saving in first year for the students because of government regulated tuition in the first year in Mumbai. The faculty subsizizes the students in that first year.
@Courtis :- The offer letter I have received does not mention anything about course fees for the second year. Hence. I have not budgeted for it. Can you give me an approximate figure for that ?

@ nishant - VISA processing. Thanks for all the information on visa processing. You have made the work a lot easier.:D I have received four documents as part of the admission package. None of the letters mention about my length of study in India/Canada. It just mentions that i have received an offer for Schulich MBA in India. The program begins on Jan 3 and ends april 12 2012. Did you also apply with the same offer letter or do I need to show them something else to explain them about the structure of the program ?

Sachin
hi Sachin,
I dont think any travel costs are included in any part of your fees. To answer your question on the estimate... it depends on when you book your tickets and how frequently you'd want to travel home to India. It costs me 33K INR when i booked from Delhi to Toronto.. in Feb .. for my travel plans in July last week..no wories on all tht right now.. Budget 50K max (one side) for tht for now. Again, your calc for budget estimates should factor-in everything mentioned in the fees schedule, Books, Living expenses, food... For me living expenses come around 1000-1100 CAD per month..
@Courtis :- The offer letter I have received does not mention anything about course fees for the second year. Hence. I have not budgeted for it. Can you give me an approximate figure for that ?
@ Ujjwal - The details provided by Charmaine Courtis also include the fees structure for Year 2 of your MBA. Note the points mentioned against August, September and January - that's year 2. Hope that answers your questions.
Also, all offer letters should include fees structure details,:o and you may feel free to get in touch with the Admissions office just in case your offer-package does not have those docs.

@ Ujjwal - really appreciate that imp question.. see my post below on that.
You offer letter would mention the Start and End Date of your program with the York University - ie Jan 3 to April 2011. This is sufficient for your to apply for a Canadian Visa.
Visa agency / Canadian Consulate is bothered about when you register and start studying with York / Schulich, and not basically about what part of your program is in India / Toronto.
IMP : The above information is to the best of my knowledge based on my experience from the previous year, and things may vary this year. Pls get int ouch with VFS / CIC for more infromation.
So can we conclude that for both the programs every opportunity is same? Though I have read the previous post, I was little skeptical about my conclusion.
Nishant could you site some shortcomings of spjain-schulich in comparison with the 2 year canada program? Or do you think at reduced cost we will get everything same.
PS: I m excluding the factors of stay and teaching in India.
@nishant hey buddy hope you are doing good. I went to VFS office today to apply for visa. The lady at the office asked me weather i was a university student or a general student. They have 2 separate checklists, one named "Study Permit Checklist-General March 2010" and other "Study Permit Checklist-University". Which one had you filled when applying for visa ?

@ Ujjwal - Well honestly I dont remember filling up anything of that sort befire my application. Anyways, I know the rules have have remained the same, they might have just changed a few form / process steps here and there. Why dont you check out the VFS website for this... or call their service desk and tell about your purpose of visit to Canada.. and they'll guide you.
Please post your findings on this thread so that everyone can benefit. Thanks mate !
