I have done B.Tech (IT) and currently working at IT MNC with CTC of 4 Lakh/annum. If I switch Job I can easily get 5-6 lakhs as per market trend.
On SCIT website, the average pckg for 08-10 batch is mentioned as 5.03 Lakhs which means students of that batch are bound to have pckg less than 5.03 and vice versa.
So, spending 7-8 lakhs at SCIT and ending up a job with a compensation which i could get in 2 years with the same company or getting even higher in a company if I switch job would be a wise idea ?
I know I may sound foolish but I have to consider ROI, my present profile and growth with respect to what I can expect after completing MBA from SCIT.
Plz provide your valuable suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Same is the Case with me.
I would have gone for GD/PI for sure but I'm expecting some calls on my CAT Score at that time.
So can't go.

Most of the students tend towards Management to change the job type from Technical or hard working to more of a non technical, easier, but risky and something which involves decision making. You'll have to do MBA someday, why not now and change the course of your work as early as possible?
Good luck man.

Hey Dude,
I totally aggree with your question. Infact i too am in the same position as of you... Replica indeed. But let me tell you my thoughts on it. First of all the average package on the website is the calculation based on all the salaries that the students at SCIT get (Freshers + experienced). Secondly, I believe they consider 18+ months or so experienced guys to be laterals and they have a different slot (consideration) for recruitment. Thirdly and most importantly... Do you want to do an MBA in IT from one of the unique B schools???
We also need to consider that eventhough you change your company now, still you would be coding or supporting another project or product which will go on for quite sometime and no body knows when you will turn up into a manager that way... It would seriously take another 6 or 7 years. Am sure that you will reach your goal this way but it would take time, Do MBA at SCIT and then you would be equipped with the running shoes which would see you reach the goal in considerably very very short time.... and added to that, it gives you the much wanted expertise... look at the curriculam of SCIT... Its really amazing to see the skills that you would be earning when you learn all those concepts... Hope this helps....
This is my personal opinion. Rest depends on how you think.. take the right decision...:cheerio:
Am not a senior at SCIT by the ways..... Am too an aspirant like you in the same position as you and those are the thoughts that i have to join SCIT..

Its obvious that this is a concern for a number of engineers who are currently working in the IT industry. What I would suggest is that you could focus more on the profiles you get and the rate of growth after your placements.
The avg package specified on the SCIT website, as u said is that of the 2008-10 batch, a batch which was still recovering frm the recession. the current senior batch(09-11), our batch(10-12) and subsequently the 11-13 batch will have amazing figures when it comes to placements & salary packages..
When u consider MBA, u need to consider ur vertical growth and the type of profile which u will be working in. Both these factors are to be kept in mind and i'd also suggest you eliminate the notion that education is an investment. consider it rather as a knowledge enrichment exercise. Of course, for a person like you with wor-ex, it would be very beneficial. 😃 😃 Welcome aboard.
the above posts state that students with 18+ months of experience are considered as laterals during the placement season. Can anybody please throw some light on this.I will have 19 months of work-ex.so does that mean i will be considered a lateral during the placement season if i get into scit?

get a better score next time and apply for sibm-p and scmhrd next time and prepare well for cat next time so that u can get into top 25 b schools.which can justify your profile

Gud that u brought up this point. It's not only you who is pondering upon this question rather there would be many stuck in this dilemma. Let me put across few questions to you..
1) Do you really like your job?
2) Would you be satisfied coding & reporting everyday status to ur PM or superior?
3) Are you thinking of short term gains or long term profile enhancement?
4) Do you want to get an extra edge in terms of domain knowledge & expand ur horizon?
5) Do u wanna take part in decision making process in organization?
6) Wanna understand how organizations run?
7) You have desire for learning more?
8: Do u feel u have the potential to take strategic decisions?
These are few of the questions u need to answer before taking a plunge in MBA quitting your job. Answer these questions honestly and weight them against each other & then decide.
The very question I put across my senior exactly one year back and was in same dilemma. I thought my current job can fetch me same CTC so why should I luk for MBA? What abt ROI? But then I realized my current job is not my cup of tea.
Trust me, while working u learn in bits & pieces but here u can satisfy ur appetite for knowledge. Just 3-4 months after joining MBA, u will see the change coming in you if u r serious abt it. Remember getting into MBA is not the end of the road but the journey starts from here.
Rest is upto u to decide what is gud & bad for u. I hope I could answer ur question precisely. :-P
