Any idea about how long the entire process would take place? Will it be completed on the same day?
I am concerned since its mentioned on site that it might take longer also, so accordingly we have to make our transport arrangements.

In addition, Companies have their own policy of defining laterals and Freshers. So you will get to know this only when you sit for the company.

Also, It is too early to think about placement process internal to any institute for that matter. Just focus on the GEPI, because that is the most difficult part of process. :)

Thanks dude..actually i really could not understand the logic of defining smeone having 18 months work ex as a lateral.hence the question.anyways thanks for the answer.just one more help ninad. hw do u suggest we go about preparing and more importantly practising for the GD?

Just work on the general knowledge aspects, have all your life experiences and common sense in your cache, so that it comes handy to you when you are faced with a question. 1) Group Discussion is not something to be prepared. It comes on its own. Remember the time when you could convince your group & built consensus. It's just the same. It depends on how much u r open to new learnings n imbibing them in your thought. It also tests ur day to day knowledge. GD topic could be anything related to business, Indian economy, politics, sports, movies, famous personality, history. Some topics which I feel u should be thorough with.
a) International Relations
b) CWG, 2G, Adarsh society scam
c) NDA vs UPA
d) Inflation
2) Personal Interview is a means to test ur personality. Some general questions are asked like Why MBA? Why SCIT? Tell me abt u & then questions based on ur CV. Questions based on ur work exp, ur interest areas.

Hey, welcome to SCIT. :)
First of all, being a non-IT candidate, u might be asked about ur intentions & ideas about shifting ur existing stream to the IT world. You may be asked a few questions to test your basic domain knowledge about IT, as after all this is an IT B-school u r aspiring 4. So prepare urself on that.
Its not necessary that u would be tested on ur knowledge in coding, cos obviously it is neither feasible nor necessary for a Non-IT candidate to be completely thorough in this area. An MBA grad need not be proficient in coding. Just be clear about what u expect and what is the scope of a profession in IT. I hope this helps. 😃

well, it seems most of you(or maybe all of u) are worried about the GE/PI. There seem to be a number of queries regarding the topics to be put forward during the GD and the probable questions to be asked in the PI. Let me tell u that there's no written rule or definite list of topics to be asked. But nevertheless, let me try to help u with what i can.
The GE/PI process:
Step 1: A psychometric test common to all. This would be pretty exhaustive and requires a quick mind & a quicker hand. 😃
Step 2: Essay. After the psychometric, an essay on ANY abstract topic would be thrown to the students on the spot and u wud have to write ur views on the topic .
Step 3: Group Discussion 1. You would be split into batches of probably 10 to 15(depending on the no. of students shortlisted) and would have to perform in a Group discussion presided over by a panel.
Step 4: Group Discussion 2. The same batch of students would be asked to give another GD by a different panel.
Step 5: Personal Interview 1
Step 6: Personal Interview 2.
One of these interviews would be technical and the other a HR, in no definite order.
Step 7:Document verification. As said earlier, u would have to carry all relevant documents with you while appearing for the process. These documents would be verified and cross checked with the data you have submitted online. Pls note that photo-copied documents are to be attested appropriately.
Some tips:
GD:
Work on some current topics. Current IT trends would do good, but also concentrate on the major happenings in the world, incidents that have made the news a lot recently, controversial issues, issues that have sparked debate, etc. These may include politics, technology, sports, films, etc.
In addition to this, you might also wanna revise on a few general topics for discussion like entrepreneurship or religion or general knowledge. Might sound cliched, but then its just a GD after all.
Lay emphasis on current affairs relating to the business world. Trends in the industry, mergers n acquisitions, takeovers, stock market issues, happenings in the banking sector, etc.
There are a number of threads in PG which discuss topics for GDs, try tracing them out n go thru them. Might help :)
Regarding GD there's a famous saying which goes "Expect the Unexpected" 😃 :)
Interview
You would obviously have to be prepared with the most commonly asked questions like Why MBA, or Why SCIT, or What makes u different from others, About urself, ur strengths n weakness, so on n so forth. You might be quizzed in depth about a few of these questions and sometimes the interviews could turn into stress interviews.
The technical interview would be based on basics. You would be quizzed on your domain knowledge of IT, some current trends, about new technology or changing scenarios in the implementation of technology in the IT industry. These would be completely general n seldom would you be asked something very intricate.
Candidates with work-ex might be asked to elucidate their roles and nature of the projects they have worked upon , their experiences in the IT industry and also some other general questions.
Freshers might be asked about their areas of interest or probably projects and any other general topics related to IT. You might also be asked questions like what'r ur plans after completing ur MBA or what do u expect in general from the course.
I'd also suggest u Puys to go thru these threads which are sure to give u some very valuable information regarding ur GE/PI process. These are threads from SCIT aspirants over the last 2 batches who have made it to SCIT.

some tips frm my side:
psychometric test: try to ans all all questn n maintain consistancy in answers as 2 r 4 ques wll actually ask d same thing but in a diff way.. u hr intrv may hav discusins on wht u hav wrin in psychometric test..
but b prepared fr surprises as well.. i was askd just 1 ques. why i shld i select @ scit . was given 10 mins.. but was told neithr i could stop in between or reapeat my points.. (dis was dne in hr intrw) . n dont get baffled by d name pschymetric test.. its just a test wid arnd 50 qus.. compltly normal qustins
Tech intrv : based n my final yr proj.. it was in DIP so some basics bout coding n alll. (m frm entc so t seemed dat she was nt much intrstd in grilling me).
1st gd: topic was privatisation wil reduce corruption
2nd pictorial gd: had sheet it was like comic strip. where boy chalenges a gal to wash all d dishes. she xcepts it n den washes all of it. later d boy says "ok u win"..

Dont hv any work ex per se.....will it hamper my chances....
