Hi for Quant you can purchase the book by Arun Sharma, its a really good and useful book 😃 I believe that book alone is sufficient

I think you should go with arihant's quantum cat as it is a nice book and also you still have four months.But if you are sound with your basics then you can go for online material or Arun Sharma.
As far as D.I and L.R is concerned you can start practicing from anywhere because these sections does not require any theoretical knowledge.Daily one hour will do the job.

one more thing quant in cat is all about how much you are clear with basics and quantum cat is one book which clear your basics very well and after doing this book you can solve maximum problems which were appeared in previous cat exams.So from my point of view this is one of the best books available for cat

@himanshu I think for english Wren and Martin and Word Power made easy are good ones and for quant i cannot say as i myself was confused about that.

I am about to start with my Cat preparations. Giving for CAT for the first time and planning to study on my own. So please help me out on the following points:
1: Where should i start from ? quant = arihant , lr = Edgar thorpe , for VA & Di which books should i buy?
2: Are these books enough or should i go with study material from some classes ?
3: When should i take my Aimcats ?
1.For VA -->RC for CAT,Verbal Ability for Cat and English Usage for cat(all by Sujit Kumar.Get all these books.These books are much better than Arun Sharma VA books in my opinion.Explanations and excellent.

for VA
simple logic - if we r able to get the meaning of all words then we can solve RC and other questions correctly. so i found that we have to strong our vocabulary , grammer, reading of major tough language and subject/topic. If these are strong we can crack any verbal paper. so i started with these things. I am doing the same currently.
all difficult words whenever i found anywhere i used to write it down on seperate book and revise regulary. this is a must...
do homophone words, word power, etc
buy a phone which has dictionary , I recommend any Android one cause in that u have apps like colour dic, webster, word web . bcz we show lazynes in searching words from dict book when we have to search 100 words. for PC u can have concise oxfd dicy- u can download from 4shared account.
For CAT - its a lot more appilcation specific that can be done only be reading a lot of books ,i struggled in these area a lot cause of this...
Also for Gds and essay , it would be a imense help , SO trust me u need to read a lot , esp books related to things that help in Gd s
examplse - algerba of infinite justice - arundhati roy , India Unbound. Gurcharan Das , few biographies that of ambanis,tata and many other emminet personlities what they did in life,m not an avid reader so dont know much books..

1 week before every exam i start doing this ...20 mins in mornig ..

GK/current affair - read - economist(online), hindu editorial- online, india today, business today-online, frontline online, any major paper like hindustan time. maintain dairy - write down imp topics , just revise before exam. all exams accept GK other than cat/xat/nmat. u have to start gk from now, because of CMAT. all big colleges are taking cmat score from this yr. we can scroe 100/100 in gk.
just go thorugh gmat official guide12 or 13 th (new) edn. they have explained how to solve verbal and qa in best way. if time guys have explained in this way i would have got good score.

I have a slightly modified query, I have passed out of engineering this year and am planning to take up a job in the auto sector. I have to join in august, so clearly I don't have time to prepare for CAT-2012, so should I focus on any specific areas(related to cat prep) regularly, so that I would be in a better position next year??
ps: I had given cat this year but could only score 93
