yes prakash bhai you are right.Actually to attain parallalism it should have been both in land and in nature.Missed the point and OA's also don't mention about it.

1) C) intended
because C) is most concise, A) uses wrong idiom usage 'intention of' should be used

2) C) was a well-established method of mineral extraction
"as a method" this doesnt seem right when modifying Leaching

3) D) customs inspectors are often treated by travelers as if they were wanton poachers rather than government employees
Verb should match with the subject leaving us with D & E, E could have been correct had it been not like ...... but like....
OA given is last sentence..... intrigue and plotting
cant understand why...?

The answer has to be intrigue and plotting since the lines over here describes the genius of the author with the book being a miracle of simplicity so the words intrigue and plotting fit the best when contrasting the word simplicity
