Sentence Correction for CAT 2012

@[543975:shanky23305]

hey nice one man, see the thing is that here ing form shud act as a noun hence, its correct !!

@[570244:arsharora] Yup, it would be possible that way only...but how to overcome this in a exam like situation since this would reflect as a clear mistake....

@[543975:shanky23305]

just see whether that ing form is acting as a noun or not, lets say- commited to going, this is incorrect as go verb hardly acts as a noun!!!

@[570244:arsharora]yeah thnx...gotta be extra careful...What seems to be wrong may not be so.

could you share the OAs. i do not think apart from C any other sentence has an error. we could use 'keep to' in B but keep is fine as well.
sorry frnd.. i really dont have authentic answer to this question..

@janki22 said: @C00L-i think its A B and C !!
why do you think its A and B ?... B seems to be alright to me

@themaster said: @C00L: C: it should be 'items'
D: there should be a comma after the qoute
OA please!
Yes D is also wrong... because wrong quotation marks.. The correct quotation marks to be used was DOUBLE QUOTATION MARKS... Single Quotation Marks signifies quotation within quotation..

Note : Commas and periods should always be put inside the closing quotation marks ; put other punctuation marks outside, unless they themselves are part of the quotation .

1.Lara stood out above the rest because he has scored a lot more against me than anyone else.
2.Lara stood out above the rest because he has scored a lot more against me than he has scored against anyone else.

are both of the above same?

I think both are same...say for eg ..in world cup...in first one ..kenya telling that India has scored highest runs against me more than any other team........in second one...kenya telling that India has scored highest runs against me ...than against any other team..both the sentences imply that India played best against kenya!..:P..lol..i dunno if it's right!

i think here the context is a bit different..

i want to know the correct way to say that no one has scored more runs against me than any other batsman(in the above framework)

In an August 13 interview, the United States Defence Secretary, Leon Panetta, disclosed that Pakistan had committed to launching a long-awaited assault against the key jihadist redoubt of North Waziristan.
Whether the use of word "launching" correct. Please explain.

COMMITTED TO takes a gerund. So the usage COMMITTED TO + -ING form is correct.Another example is ACCUSTOMED TO.It also takes -ING form at the end. :)
