Hi
ABM course is a new addition at SIIB and it has been accepted very nicely by the industry...juss 2 batches hav passed out and the response has been pretty exciting...regarding placement, its a mix of agri focussed companies as well as retail, banks, insurance and other such companies luking for rural focus.
So typically an ABM grad wud get into micro credit and agri loans in banks.
The requirement for getting into the ABM course is a graduate degree in agriculture, horticulture, food technology and the like. But it is not restricted to just that. Any one wid a strong inclination towards the agri sector can also apply and no prejudice abt the educational backgrnd prevails...cheers !!

Article written by my classmates Gauruv sinha and Sashi rathi. Thanks to them...

SYMBIOSIS INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS, PUNE

Leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary vision and ideas and an impeccable perseverance to implement that idea. Leaders are the people who know what is to be achieved, where to go, and how?
They are the souls who materialize a dream into reality, transform a vision into a revolution and translate "An Idea into Action" - the theme for SIIB Leadership Series 2007.

The Leadership Series, an initiative taken by the SIIB has been providing a platform for the SIIBians - the budding managers to have the privilege of sharing the experiences of leaders across various verticals of society. Be it politics, corporate, judiciary or any other sector, the renowned personalities from different walks of life share the platform and give insights to the SIIBians.

This year the Leadership Series was conducted on 7th October in the Symbiosis Infotech Campus, Hinjewadi. Shri Jayant Patil, Minister of Finance, Government of Maharashtra was the Chief Guest, Shri Ujjawal Nikam, Public Prosecutor, Government of Maharashtra and Mr. Naushad Forbes, Director, Forbes Marshall were the Guests of Honour. The symposium was presided over by Padamshree Dr. S.
B. Majumdar, Chancellor, Symbiosis International University.

The symposium started after the lighting ceremony and Welcome Address by Dr. Rajni Gupte, Director, SIIB; Dr. Majumdar welcomed the guests. In his address Dr. Majumdar put some light on the theme - "Idea into Action". He said history has witnessed a plethora of examples how some views were discarded, some ideas were rejected, some voices were ignored, but the leaders went on with their ideas, put them into live actions and wrote themselves their success stories.

Later on, Shri Jayant Patil addressed the audience that Indians are usually very magniloquent about ideas, but unfortunately we are not able to implement them. Indians perform great as an individual but when in a team we are not that much successful. He made references to the 1990-91 era when Dr Manmohan Singh sowed the seeds of liberalisation when many Indian firms were conservative about their businesses, their profits and feared foreign entrants. But a decade and half later, India Inc. is not only performing well in the domestic markets but is bullish overseas with lots of acquisitions and businesses on foreign soils. Further he said that after the international focus on India and China the next destination to be focussed may be Brazil, Eastern block of Europe and some African nations. So there will be the shift in the business. So there is a need for education that provides an international perspective as done by the SIIB.

Mr Naushad Forbes explained innovation as an action which results into a commercial advantage. He said there are three principles of translating an idea into action - purpose, focus and will. Leaders have to make lot of sacrifices but they do not compromise with values and vision. An organization should also focus on its goals and the goals of the people working for it, with a purpose of progress for itself and its workforce.

Shri Ujjawal Nikam told that when an idea is translated into actions, there are four processes involved - intention, preparation, execution and completion. He shared his experiences with the students how he keeps on getting ideas and leverages them in his profession where creativity is immensely required.

Mr. Doongaji said that nowadays people and organization are getting hedonistic, possessive with a greater effort to gain power and control. He emphasized on the fact that power do no account for a leadership but conversely it is the humility of a leader that makes him substantial. He said being a leader means to be a visionary with a responsibility and high performance. He gave various examples of responsibility and affection from the TATA family. Today we must have a deeper purpose for doing business - development and upliftment of the community which we serve.

The next speaker was Mr. Lakshminarayan M, Joint Managing Director, Mico. Mr Lakshminarayan said that a leader is determined for success, demonstrates courage, develop trust and lead by setting examples. He shared with the students how he transformed the company suffering from low productivity to high profitability.

Mr. D Ramesh, Wipro Infrastructure technologies, talked of engineering and business as two sides of a coin. He described how engineering and technology contributes to human welfare. He said leadership is about minds and creations that are often inspired by the Nature and are translated into innovations. Today's scenario require that a management needs to set a leadership by creating values for customers and workforce.

Mr. Deepak Dheer, CEO, Stampings, Mahindra & Mahindra, said that an idea cannot be developed in vacuum; it requires vision, values and purpose. He further explained about how he translated his idea into action to materialize the ambition of becoming a global player wit global footprint.

In the last Mr K Vishwanathan told the audience that in order to face difficulties to lead better life, we think and develop ideas. There are lots of problem in the professional lives because of differences in opinions, culture, habits and preferences. But those who are focussed determined and move forward sets the examples for others to follow.

Overall it was tremendous experience where the students received lots of insights from different walks of life and learnings to take away.

Umm..the question on GK is a bit unclear...lemme try and answer wat i perceive...if ur talking abt the admission...no SIIB does not require any special readings for the GK section of SNAP...although a bit of knowledge abt GDPs and Trade Balance wud be helpful
The second part...HR has been started for the batch graduating in Apr 2008...and the response to this has been phenomenal...the entire HR batch did their smmr projects wid sum of the most well known companies...and regd the question abt HR wid International Business...well none of the businesses in todays globalised world are isolated...the International Business perspective added at SIIB goes a long way in making managers equipped to handle challenges posed by globalisation...hope ur doubts hav been cleared...cheers !!

.............................

hii neel i completely agree wid u..
i think eps HR managers need to develop a global perspective...wid tis world becoming a global village!
thats why this seems to be an interesting option.:)
one more thing is the profile of the candidate also taken into consideration alongwith snap score while giving out the GD/PI calls and is the selection procedure two tired or three tired?
