Before starting..I would like to say that this thread is special! very special!
My situation : I graduated in economics (one of the top colleges) from DU in 2008 & have been working since then. Enjoyed my work..won awards...got promoted & currently i am an assistant manager. The journey had been okayish if not great!
MBA was always there in my mind..But never gave CAT! Tried studying along with job..It dint work out well..to be very honest..
My dad has retired & mom is about to in next 1.5-2 yrs. They also want me to get over with the so called MBA chapter of my life.
At 25, with 4 yrs work ex..I decided to quit job ( in fact serving notice period) to prepare for CAT, GMAT, XAT etc etc. Have got mixed responses from my friends. But i think i have taken a calculated risk.
But a fear of WHAT IF is there in my mind! :(
What if, i dont get into a decent b school? Then in that case i would have to go back to the job market..and do a working professional MBA (which i wont mind given the circumstances)..god only knows what kind of job / remuneration i shall get then..would a gap have an adverse impact on my decently mediocre profile ..blah blah..
I back myself..but sometimes i do get scared...and end up thinking of so-many scenarios..that I get worked up!
Need suggestions on my decision..and may be even a pep talk! :)
Thanks!

hiii puys,i am kaushal.i have completed my graduation B.Tech(Biotechnology, biggest mistake of my life and also the biggest learning incident) in 2011.I gave CAT in 2010 and scored 63%ile,dropped one year, got a job in a fake company "Arjun Infoservice"(was told during placement that it is a marketing job and later came to know that its KPO job). After working for one week in June 2011,I left the job.I took coaching in TIME and prepared hard, cracked IBPS although score was only 136 and in CAT 2011,I scored 88%ile(OBC) and although my acads were low(10-77,12-65,grad-7.03),I got calls from New IIMs and IITs.I got rejected in all these and now I am sitting idle at home,in between I joined family business but there I found that there is no work for me.I am just an extra guy over there.I don't have any extra curricular activity after my school life and my CV is very weak.I have applied for interviews of bank po but didnt got an interview call from them.I have wasted too much money of my parents and don't want to waste any further.my father wants me to join a coaching institute again in Delhi and start preparing but this time,i don't want to spend more.Again i know my expenses will be high in Delhi so I don't want to go to Delhi.I will surely do an MBA from one of the best institutes as my dream is to be an entrepreneur after gaining corporate exposure but right now I am unable to decide what to do next in my Life.I am already 23,I want to settle so that I can support my family. I want your help and valuable suggestions. 1-What can I do improving for extracurricular activities? 2-Suggestions for what to do next in my Life? should i go for a marketing job in kolkata/delhi n then prepare for cat? Hi There..
Let me have a go on your first question! Many people think that extracurricular's can be developed only when you in school / college. But i disagree!
The answer is "Do what you like". I know its too broad a definition for extracurricular but then this is what it is.
It can be any thing...like joining a small ngo..taking up tasks on pro bono basis..it can be as simple as teaching few under priviliged kids..
on a creative side...you can write blogs things like movie reviews..your take on certain incidents..stories etc..
A friend of mine..who likes cooking.. has an awesome blog and a web page..every week he makes a different dish...puts the recipe up on his blog with the pics..
If you into sports..join a club which plays soccer..cricket..
Identify your liking..get started & make it big enough!
Obviously you would want to showcase it in front of others..but make sure you enjoy it at the first place 😃

I have written mat in may 2012 and I've got 93%. how long is this score valid. can I apply to colleges participating in mat december 2012. If yes when is the best time to do so. If I apply for december colleges when will the actual course start. Is there any harm in doing so. please tell me I really need this. Academics-10th-86 12th-91 grad-63

I quit my job to prepare for CAT'07. Mid 80%iles. Decided to take up a job after 6 months and continued my preparations. Season'08 was much better. The major problems I faced was:
1.) Convincing a prospective employer that I left for a reason and I won't leave again next year 4.) Convincing the Bschool interview panel that my decision was well thought of 2.) Convincing my family that I will not commit the same mistake of leaving my job again 3.) Convincing myself that it was all worth it.
For me, leaving the job was in some ways avoidable. But when I look back at it it was a major turning point for me. Having faced failure, the drive to succeed increased. At the end of the day, it all boils down to how badly do you want it. It also comes down to the quality of sugarcoating that you have around your answers to questions from the panel.
I guess taking up part time work in a startup would be the best thing that you can do while preparing for the exams. You get tremendous learning, you can answer questions nicely and you also get loads of time to prepare.
Hello puys, Been regular in this forum for last few months and learnt most of the things. Im happy with the info i got from here. But im so worried with this life of mine,so thought any of u seniors might help. So here it goes with my academic first: X-73% (Andhra state board) XII- 66% (Andhra state board) b-tech- 55.6% 😞 (JNTU,Hyderabad.. 2010 passed out)
I have been sitting idle since the day i completed my b-tech. wandering places, attending friend's marriages, writing MH-CET and CMAT with very bad scores, and applying in many job portal websites in vain. This is what i have done till date from 2010.
Im so frustrated with this life of mine. very much interested to give CAT but my profile keeps me away from preparing for the sacred exam and even my family is against it as they want me to look for a job. But the thing which they dont know is, with such a profile of mine ts not easy to get a job in same domain. Im stuck with confusion and cant step forward with all these dilemma. Please seniors, if anyone of you can help me in advising about it and motivate me to stand on my will to write CAT. Thank you!

Buddy
Need not worry! Dont be dejected, things shall fall in place with time.
Coming to the query, i feel you should prepare for MBA entrances, if not top colleges atleast you can target 10-20 ranked colleges and they shall improve your profile definitely.
Also, simultaneously you can try for a job that might not be very highly profiled but good enough to give you some exposure to industry. You can certainly get them with your profile as well, just try appropiately. 😃
If anyone can help me, I will appreciate it a lot. I am 24.5 years old. I finished my schooling in 2005 with 10th(cbse)-75% and 12th(cbse)- 68%. Then was forced to drop a year because I didn't get into any good engineering college. After that, I got into a below average college in 2006 studying cse. I couldn't complete the course in time due to health problems in the last year of my degree. I was only able to finish it in Dec 2011 whose result was declared in May 2012. It should have ideally been over in May 2010. My percentage for engineering was 57%. In between the gap after my normal college ended, I had to help in my father's business due to his failing health which is better now. Also, I involved myself in some stocks day trading to keep myself busy. I would like an honest reply as to if I have any chance of getting in a good mba college- top 20 if a good percentile with all the accumulated gap years working against me. Any reply would be appreciated. I am an ambitious guy but I have been lazy in my overall approach to life. I would request if any of you could provide me an answer as to if it is advisable to got for cat 2012. I have already gone to coaching institutes and I to decide if I should join them with a batch starting at the end of this week. Please reply.

Buddy....there are some very good colleges which don't give too much emphasis on past acads like IIFT,MDI,XLRI,FMS,IIMC etc. Don't fret too much over past things....just prepare and give your best in the upcoming season...I have seen a number of guys with graduation %age in the range of 50 and still got selected in colleges like IIFT,XLRI etc. So just do hardwork and leave rest to almighty  cheers!

First of all, there is nothing hopeless in this !! You do not have to lose any hope.
The first thing you need to do is to set your priorities. In current scenario, what would be your priority? Acquiring a job and simultaneously preparing for CAT'12 or not to join any job at all. In case you decide not to join any job, you will have to justify the gap after graduation in your interviews.
Hence, Your priority should be to search for a kind of job which is flexible and provides less burden. It is easier said than done, but acquiring a job will give you some stability as CAT is very unpredictable.
Second Priority should be to plan out your CAT'12 preparation schedule. It goes without saying that the other exams are also important. Along with your preparations, you can also do something which can project your interest towards finance. There are surely some certification courses which can be taken up.
You can follow Why Finance? to know more about the finance certification courses and ask questions pertaining to finance.

thanxs a ton !!! i'll surely b searching for a job...n side by side prepare for cat 12
please help me in getting out from this dilematic situation, actually am a 2012 pass out from N.I.T, I have got a job (deloitte -analyst sap sevices) but the joining is in january, m really confused what to do in these 6 months. even i am confused whether my acads. will land me some calls from any iim if i do well in dis cat, acads:- 10th-90.6%(cbse) 12th- 80.8%(cbse) engg- 88.1%
so what should i do wait for my joining or in the mean time go for cat and what are the chances to get calls from good iims being from a generaal category when most of the iims are looking into your past acads for shortlisting?
