so what should i do wait for my joining or in the mean time go for cat and what are the chances to get calls from good iims being from a generaal category when most of the iims are looking into your past acads for shortlisting?
Buddy
You have good acads, need not worry at this front 😃
And yes, it is wise to wait for joining and prepare for CAT during this time. 😃 Strong chances of getting calls from IIMs if you score well. 😃
Hello People, Straight to the point. 10th-screwed(78%) 12th-screwed(69.9%):banghead::banghead::banghead: B.E.(I.T.) 2011 passout - (68.65%) not to high but I was in University top 10 for three sems. CAT 2010 :screwed(71.71%ile) :banghead: CAT 2011 :screwed but here big time(61%ile) :banghead:
got admission in the good college at least in Gujarat. YES at THIS %ile with a decent PI. and I am A GENERAL/FRESHER But now I have 1.5 months to join there. Can anybody suggest me any job which pays well so I can give CAT one more time!!!! otherwise I have to study here.
Please REPLY I am waiting ..
Hi,
I presume that you did not take up any job after graduation and dedicated whole time in CAT preparations.
Another presumption is that you WILL NOT be joining the B-School that you converted if you get a good job.
As per the above presumptions, I would suggest to decide how badly do you want to go to the top B-schools. It goes without mentioning that CAT is unpredictable.
So, you can only afford to take CAT'12 if you have a decent job and higher aspirations than the B-school which you have converted.
Being an IT engineer, many job opportunities would be available for you. After graduation, many of my friends got off campus IT jobs in companies like TCS.
You can also try in Startups and gain some quality work ex.
I cannot suggest to leave the converted college as I am not aware of the college and your aspirations. But, one thing you should start working upon is justifying your gap after graduation. It will help you in job interviews and also B-School interviews.
After analyzing the scenario, take a decision. Once decided, do not think too much.
could any1 please tell me about the cut offs for calls from iims since all the final results of selections are almost out,and also about mdi gurgaon's selection criteria fro gd/p.i call..please add the acads specializations needed along with the cat percentiles if the particular iims look into acads more strongly.

Buddy,
Go through this thread for shortlisting criteria of various B-schools for last year.
And MDI shortlists candidates purely based on CAT score and for final selection, last year, it gave good amount of weightage to the CAT score and some weightage to GD and PI.
But the criteria of the B-schools may change this year. So you should also regularly check the websites of the B-schools you are aiming for. Websites of coaching classes like TIME/CL/IMS also post links for selection criteria of IIMs.

Think and decide. Don't decide and think. . ATB!!
Hello Umang Thanks for your reply. Yes true I didn't take any job after graduation. I was sure about getting good %iles in CAT. But things didn;t work out as they should. and I converted GOOD college in Gujarat its the best through GCET. I am sure you are aware of it. But right now there are no job openings for 2011 passouts. and yes I desire to join a better college than the college I converted.

I am on Bench now,and I want to resign from my company, and start preparing for MBA,and govt. service exams. I want to start my life afresh,I'm even thinking of doing M.Tech.
Only issue is I came back home, and I'm at home now,I don't want to go back to Bangalore where I was working. Can I send my resignation from here to the HR,through e-mail and return my I-card and other stuff through courier ?
I could take LWP(Leave without Pay) but I want to get free from the company, and want to pursue other things.
On Bench the company does not keep you for long if you resign,is that true , its a 1 month notice period normally. How long do they take to relieve you if you are on bench ?
There are times in our life when we willingly or unwillingly take break from the work life as well as the student life. These are the times when we are sitting idle at home but want to explore new avenues for ourselves. And during exploration, we need some guidance from those who have been there and done it before.
To cater to similar queries, here is the thread where all those who are sitting idle at home and are looking forward to explore new opportunities, can post there queries and get it answered from senior puys who have been through the same phase or have experienced the same happening in lives of others.
Feel free to shoot your queries regarding the same and fellow puys shall answer them and help you to deal with the situation in the best possible way.
Best thing to do is to travel and read as much as you want. While traveling may be costly but reading never is. Everyday a lot of digital, technological, scientific, etc break-throughs keep coming up. Read as much as you can and if possible join all the ideas received through reading and come up with your own idea. Come up with a campaign, try to propagate it, chances are you may fail to gain leverage out of it but if you do, that is always going to take you higher. Saying all that from personal experiences :)
Oh..I never knew that there's a thread specially for people like me 😛
My B.tech(Electrical) just got over in the first week of june.(Farzi engineer,of course ).I didn't want to continue in the same field,so I decided on MBA after discussing with my brother and started preparing for CAT. Started my preparations in June last year and got 97.7 %ile, but could not convert the colleges I wanted.
CAT has become so unpredictable,so don't want to take the risk of giving CAT again without a back-up.Since I didn't get placed on-campus,I have been trying for off-campus placements but haven't been able to secure a job yet. Also,I have started giving mocks again and have scored decent till now.
I have also decided to give NCFM certification exams, which will help me to gain some Finance knowledge too.Anything else I can do to justify the gap ?? (CFA has been ruled out for now)

Buddy
I feel that running after too many certifications/activities in the name of justifying year gap is not a wise idea. A good score and decent performance in GDPI plays the most pivotal role.
NCFM shall suffice and will suggest to rather focus on preparation more than doing some certifications in addition to NCFM and letting the focus shift from main aim. There have been people who despite gap ahve converted calls from top B-Schools, so need not worry much on this front.
Just keep reading newspapers to keep yourself abreast with latest happenings as well and do read editorials as well, so that you can use free time in broadening your thought process on analyzing things and this shall help both in PI and during MBA as well. :)

the thing is i am living in pune away from my family and dont have any job in hand from nov 2011 and now i dont want to be a burden for my family now sp i was thinking should i go back to my home and start preparing for MBA exams or should i just prepare alongwith searching for job??
I am Naveli with 6 years of experience in Business Analyst type role in IT company. I have done B.E. in E&TC; from a very good college in Pune University.. I love maths and my logical analysis is good..
I am stuck up badly in my current profile which does not give me much in return to my efforts. So I have decided to take a chance in MBA. Which will take my career and my low confidence to a better level.
Currently I am on Sabbatical leave from June 1st with my husband at USA. And I want to utilise this time in preparing for MBA exam majorly for CAT , SNAP, CET.. Preferebly CET/SNAP.. coz i have location constraint.. and I can not study anywhere else except Pune..
But I am not confident friends.. I am not sure if doing MBA is the right decision or not.. I dont think executive MBA will help.. I have heard it should be done after 8-9 yrs of exp plus it is very expensive compared to PGDM. Friends please help me boost my confidence in myself..

See your first priority should be to search a job and also prepare side by side. Without taking job and preparing only for CAT considering the fact that you passed out in 2011 wont help your cause. And dont bother about the gap you can always make up for it by scoring heavily both in written and GD/PI.ATB 😃

If you don't want to continue in job just go back and do all the formalities. You will probably be able to submit resignation sitting at home. There should be some portal/link for an intranet site where you can go and submit your request. But I doubt if you'll be given provision for couriering ID card and other stuff. Also you'll have to settle dues if any (to give them or them to give you) and get your experience certificate and other documents (if any). What does it serve by just running away from everything?
If you want to pursue higher studies, good for you. Go for it. But first decide on whether to go for M.Tech, Govt. Service or MBA and then go ahead full steam with the preparations. Don't try to step into all boats at the same time. All of them requires dedicated preparation. So first sit back, think calmly and then take a decision on what to do.
I am working in a steel service center for last two years.I belong to OBC category? can i get calls from IIMs with this profile? what will be the required %ile?
Yes . If your cat percentile is decent ( > 90 %ile overall and >75 sectional) , you stand a good chance of getting calls from all the IIM's

See, dont go by what others are saying here or actually doing.
Also, any certification or NGO doesnt necessarily make up for a more satisfactory answer than the one which ' drop for preparation ' cannot.
So, dont confuse yourself a lot at this stage. 3-4 months of dedicated preparation and a high score can fetch you calls. And good answers for rest of the questions in PI and a satisfactory answer for gap question ( if asked, not asked necessarily everywhere ) can get you a convert.
In short, dont deviate from dedicated preparation by reading stuff posted here. Had i been in your place, just preparation would have been my aim. :)
Reason being last 3-4 months are crucial for preparation, so dont compromise on preparation stuff.
I need a advice ...I finished BE ( computer science ) with 62% in 2009 but actually completed it in 2011 due to backlogs ...so i had a 2 year gap in between and now its 2012 ...in this gap i learned to trade, ( Technical analysis ) and now i am getting Rs 70000 + per month from trading , with some efforts i am sure i can get 1 Lakh pm soon ( but minimum amount is Rs 50000 pm ) ..but the thing is , my Mom and Dad both are retired and i have a Younger Bro who is studying college ..and in some 3-4 years i like to get married ..
But , the thing is , as you all know Trading is not permanent and also when getting married or like that thing , when someone asks , i dont think saying Trading would be nice and also many Dad's wont be OK to give a girl to someone who is in this business ...So i thought of going to a job and do trading side by side ..but who will give a job to a guy who has nearly 3 years gap ...??? and also who does a job not relevant to the field ??? ( My friend is working in HCL BPO , support job , he told he can get a job there , but it has night shifts and day shifts rotation , and the salary is Rs 15000 pm , but he also told , after working in a support job its difficult to move to a IT job) and also it would be difficult to trade if i go to this job , coz , he has said me , its more than 8-10 hours job and there will be time just to sleep and relax ...
I know some web designing , maybe i can get a job in some company as a Web designer , but again , i would be getting a maybe Rs 10000 as starting salary and getting to a Rs 20000 pm range would nearly take definitely at least 1 or more year .. But , i can surely get that 4 months salary in a Month in Trading...so i am confused now whether to go to a job or stick with trading , i am also preparing for Bank and Govt jobs ...but onething for sure , if i get a bank or govt job , i would definitely go to that and side by side i would do this trading as its a 9-5 job and trading is from 10 AM to 11 PM and also i can take leave a month and do this ...but the same cannot be done with a IT job ...so i am bit confused....Any help ...What you guys would do in this kinda situation ????
