Sitting idle... need advice? What to do in current situation!

@ajaygovindg Thanks for the advice,,,,,,,

Hi.!! I am very frustrated, need advice !!!

.
This year I have cmpltd my bio-medical enggwid first class & want to go 4 mba..
In last year TCS came 4 placement, but don't got selected!! It was my dream , to work in MNC...but I didn't. I got depressed.
.
.
Then I got placed in another company through placement. After working there for 1 month, I came 2 know, It's one of the fraud company....so I left it & also job profile was of sales & marketing of medical equipment..It's all that i didn't want to do !!!, so I left dat job ..Mean while I got mail thru naukri.com for job in job consultancy.Job profile is of recruitment consultant. It has nothing to do with my engg. & job hours are too long.. 09:30 hours/day... & salary is also vey less. only 8000 per/ month..With diz job,I am unable to give enough time for CAT preparation...Nw I am thinking to leave diz job....Is it worth to leave diz job just for CAT's quest..Will this 1 year gap spoil my profile !!!

My parents are also not supporting me for CAT,b'coz of high fees of MBA. They are telling me either continue present job in consultancy or join as sales person for medical equipment. But I don't want to go for either of one..so much confused !!

Need Suggestion !! Guyz..
@sam7 Firstly define/think on your reasons for doing an MBA or "Why MBA?" clearly. Not being satisfied in current job, and not having right job profile etc. may not be right reasons for doing an MBA. If you do an MBA from one of the top 20 like old IIMs, XLRI, FMS etc. then you may get a job which will help you get a career boost and get the worth of MBA in terms of job satisfaction. But then if you do MBA from any of the other institutes then you MAY/MAY NOT end up in a satisfactory job. Sales, Consulting etc. are the work profiles even after MBA also. Work hours depends on the organization, so in that sense you may get something satisfactory, but then after the 2years of MBA.

If you're 100% clear about Why MBA, and if this job is so unsatisfactory that you can't even dream of continuing here for 1 more year then no point in continuing. You can think of reasons to justify the gap of 1 yr which is not much. You can easily justify it if you do something else also in the meantime like contributing to an NGO, some internship, certification etc., rather than sitting completely idle.
@ajaygovindg : Yes, I have a reason to do MBA. My age is 22. As of now, I haven't done anything, that I would like to..e.g. Engg. , sales job, consultant job !!.But MBA is my dream. I want to get into media field....There is no point in settling down anywhere. After cracking CAT, my self confidence will boost..& I want to take gap for one year, not only to just prepare for CAT, bt I also want to prepare myselfff, in terms of personality, communication, confidence..I want to invest one year to improve myself...Will it be right step ??
@sam7 If you're confident about how you will justify the 1 year gap (you'll have to come up with that yourself!) then go ahead. Right & Wrong is subjective. It all depends on what words you choose and how well you can convince an interviewer or any third person on why they should give you an admission for doing MBA! They (B-Schools) will be looking for "place-able" profiles/candidates. If you can convince them of what you can be, and what you can do in future then your past of a 1yr gap, which again is not much to be a big concern, is going to be insignificant.

All the Best! :cheerio:
@ajaygovindg : thanks a lot, 4 such valuable suggestion !!
@sam7 Since you're interested in Media, MICA, SIMC, Delhi School of Communication etc. are some institutes you can target. :)

Hi,

I did my engg in mechanical this year passout.but didn't get job and i prepared for cat since last 6 month but didn't do well in CAT 12. I m looking for CAT 13 but the question arises that what i do this whole year becoz i have no job. so i prepare CAT this whole year plz justify it???
@manish2345 How can someone else justify why you took a gap?!

You'll have to come up with a reason yourself, or else try keeping yourself occupied by contributing to an NGO, doing some internships, certifications etc. Also keep trying for a job in the meanwhile and in between if you get a job join and work for few months.

Also continue at http://www.pagalguy.com/forums/cat-and-related-bschools/official-cat-2013-aspirants-t-88203/p-3610422/r-4180270 for CAT 2013.
@ajaygovindg : One more thing that I wud like to ask you, "whether my present job experience will be considered or not ??"
@sam7 In terms of quantity, work exp less than 1 year is usually not considered significant. You may get some credit or benefit in GDPI stage for not having been idle and having taken up job even after not getting though campus placements. Shows your eagerness to be not idle (from my perspective and this is something you may want to convince the interviewer of a particular B-School also).

In terms of quality, it depends on the words you choose and the way you put across your learning from your work experience and its relevance/linkage to your reasons for "Why MBA".

hello ... i finished my bba from christ university bangalore in april 2012 and since then had been preparing for CAT 2012. now i am beginning to attend to gd n pi calls. how do i justify my year drop?

To cut the long story short I graduated in 2011 from a not so renowned engineering college affiliated to state technological university and got placed in an IT giant after working for an year almost due to persistent health problems as I could not avail leave for proper treatment or get a transfer to my hometown I had to resign in November 2012.....So will this 6 months gap affect my MBA college interview ( gave only SNAP and XAT missed CAT due to serious health issues).....Also my company has given me a letter confirming my resignation but not giving any experience certificate or relieving letter and saying that relieving letter will be issued only after clearance of my PF.......So will that pose a problem?......And what reason should I give the interview panel for resigning from my job "Health Issues"/"Personal Problems"

@lostsomewhere With the kind of history you have mentioned here, I feel the most important thing you should take up is your HEALTH. I think before you take admission to any institute get your Health issues sorted out.

Once you sort out the problem, you can sincerely tell the Panel your issues with your resignation, relieving letter etc. This will show you in good light, as a sincere person.

I feel that being sincere and Healthy to take on the MBA challenge will be the best way forward.
@nihashads Hi. I think dedicatedly studying for CAT should be a good enough reason. I don't see a problem in stating anywhere that you were preparing for CAT. Lakhs of students do that every year.

just now got my cat results and failed utterly nt even decent %ile
I completed my btech this yr (2012 passout)
i wasted all this yr preparing fr cat i dnt know wat to do now plz someone suggest me any better option for me for doing MBA im askng for any avg Bschools who will give admission without taking cat scres as consideration
my acedamics
10th-87.5
inter-94.5
btech-65
mat feb2012 94 %ile
now im writing mat again in this feb plzz suggest me
I dnt know wat to do now even i dnt have a job

Hello everyone. I am B.E. graduate (Electrical Engineering) passed out in 2010.Currently working for a pvt. firm as a sales engineer.Got experience of 18 months for the same profile. Gave CAT last year..got a very low percentile..Planning to write CAT and other exams this year. My academics scores are just average X-70 %, XII - 55 % B.E. - 65%

I am thinking of leaving my current job and join an NGO (work full time) or conduct tutions as I am finding this sales job a bit hectic for me and am not loving my work. I know deep down that's not the way to go, but the job openings that I get through e-mails are all sales / marketing.

Also, I don't want to take a year gap, sit idle at home and just prepare for CAT and other exams. It will give a negative impression and might pose problems for me during GD/PI time.
Please advise me as to what I should do. I am confused..

Thanks
@punecounselor Thanx for the advise will do the same yeah sorting out my health problems will be fit within a month or two.

Mat score is enough for christ..though your cat score can help you land in better colleges. Research properly. I can suggest you one option whose last date is near. Tapmi.
