Sitting idle... need advice? What to do in current situation!

with 78 percentile in cat...any decent colleges to apply?

Hey Puys.. I am stuck in a very deep pit right now. I completed my 12th in 2005 and after a year gap took admission in an engineering college. It took me 5 and a half year to complete the engineering that too with 57% marks. It has been a year since and I am still jobless and got no idea what should I do to get a decent job. After completing engineering I did a course in CCNA and did a global certification in Red Hat (RHCE), Still I couldn't get a single opportunity for the job. I can't ask my father for more money to invest in a new course which I again doubt will fetch me a job. He can still sponsor me for MBA but with my current resume I don't think I'll be getting any good college. I am thinking of courses in cloud computing or Red Hat security but again it will cost me 6 months and I need my dad to get agreed on sponsoring for these courses. Too many thoughts in my mind.. I am in a very confused state of mind right now. How should I proceed? What way should I choose? If you all can suggest something, related to a course, job or anything that you may think help me build my career. It will be very grateful. My current location is Delhi. Please advise accordingly.

I am currently pursuing my THIRD YEAR in B.SC. ( Zoology and Chemistry ). I had joined AIMCAT series last year and focused thoroughly on them and scored 94.68%ile in CAT 2012 this being my first attempt. My B.Sc. would end in May 2013 and I am planning to give this year for my second attempt in CAT to secure an A grade institute like IIMs,XLRI,FMS,SP Jain and JLBIMS. Please guide my what should I do this year.

FIRST, should I take up a JOB or a one year course ( dilemma)
SECOND , how should I plan my studies
THIRD , I don't drop this year and take admission somewhere.

My age is 22.

Dear Seniors,

Please see my story and kindly advice.

X. 89.
XII. 97.3
B.tech. 82(passed out in 2009 and all the 3 from Andhra Pradesh)
WE. TCS from Mar,10 to Jun,12.
Resigned the job due to family issues and dissatisfaction and have been job less from july'12.
CAT'11 . OA.89. QA.83. VA.90
CAT'12. OA.73. QA.96 VA.21
XAT'12. OA.88

Applied for IMT, TAPMI, Great Lakes, IFMR and XIMB RM.

There are three paths to choose from.
1. Work hard and Convert the colleges and join the best of them.
2. Look out for a job and then chase CAT again this year.
3. Look out for a job and try converting the schools and decide to join the school if i had no job by May and if I am able to get a job by May, then stick around and chase CAT.
Moreover, by 2014 june, i will get 4yrs experience(btech 2009 passed out and I had a gap in 2009 because tcs called us so late, late by 10months), so am I eligible for normal MBA(though my age will be 26) or do i face any issues while admission or during placements?? Can I change my course(from IT to other field)??
If there are issues, then I need to think abt exec 1 yr mba( and become some sales guy or a consultant)

Kindly enlighten me.
Thanks in advance.

Hi puys,

I need some guidance for the career options for one of my friend. She has done BA in mathematics honors from delhi university and had appeared for CAT last year. She got the admission in Nirma university and now she z not able to handle the pressure of MBA and its life. So, she has opted to quit her further plans for MBA and is very undecisive about her career. Please suggest some good career options for her..
Dear puys and seniors,There comes a time when one is totally lost and only keeps thinking what to do instead of performing actions. Even though with good academic records iam now in such a situation........My last qualification being B.Com , made up my mind for an MBA course before passing out the graduation.

I prepared for CAT 2011 with no good preparation, least bothered with career attempted it and as expected , the results were abysmal. During the same year i was facing certain health issues and some personal problems. Finally decided for second attempt with good preparation. Attempted CAT 2012 and unexpectedly the results were not that good as i was expecting them to be this year.

Now iam totally lost with no expectations in my life. The depression is more because of no work experience till date and no extra curricular activities (Which i could have done last year).
Various people around discourage me for MBA (People in today's time mostly don't value MBA ) and instead advise me for pursuing professional courses like CA/ICWA. Iam now of 23yrs and can not afford to spend 4-5 years for further studies in CA and to be very frank i feel more defeated thinking "by not cracking CAT only ,attempting twice ,how can a person even think of going for CA".

Mistakes till date :
No work Exp ( But was a helping hand in family business with no depth knowledge)
No Extra Activities
No Other courses in these 2 years of Gap.

Profile :
10th CBSE - 85%
12th State Board - 92.2%
Graduation - 81%
Iam Currently Idle with my MAT dec 2012 scores as 93%tile with no other good results.
Please suggest me what can be done for a good start . What colleges are good under MAT .....what should i do now ???????

One thing iam sure about is i cant afford to skip one more year for CAT.
I want to pursue MBA......I want to show to my people that even MBA is hardworking and high respected in the society but not value-less. Doing MBA just for the sake of showing-off to my people is not my main reason . But still is an other strong reason somewhere in me.

Please suggest me what can be done ?? Any other course with MBA advisable ? If yes , then what are they ?

Please help me in this regard.

@priyank4153456 Hi Priyank just chill out yar. There are people who are preparing for 3 - 4 years without working or other activities. Be cool. You have got nice English efficiency which can be seen from your big post 😃 Your academic stats are really stunning. You really have an excellent score in MAT. With that you can apply for many decent B-schools. You can apply for Christ, B'lore Session II, Alliance, IFIM, BIMTECH, ITM Mumbai. No hard feelings
@priyank4153456 You can do either of 2 things now
1) Join your Family Business and devote sometime learning the various aspects of the business. Don't take it lightly and be sure that if you join your family business you must give 100% attention to that. Prepare for CAT/XAT alongside your job. I know guys who after working in their family business for more than 2 years got selected in IIMs. But then they were really very passionate about their business and knew their business inside out.
2) You can search for another job and prepare for the CAT/XAT simultaneously. Now, don't try too much to get a job. If you don't get a job in coming 2 months, it would be better to join your family business.
The summary is, whatever you do - be the best in that. So, even if you join your Family Business, you should be able to say everything about the same during your interview. The interviewer or for that matter any person who meets you must get to know that you really have worked your heart out in whatever job you were doing.
You've a very impressive Academic profile and anything above 95%ile next year would give you a lot of GD/PI calls from good institutes. 23 years also is not considered to be old enough for doing/preparing for MBA. So, you can safely take this thing out of your mind :)
Prepare well alongside your job and everything else would fall in the right place.
Revert here, if there's still any doubts.

Hi seniors, its really relieving to get someone to hear you out and guide you in times of need. my academics: ICSE 83% (2003 pass), ISC 85% (2005 pass), B.F. Tech from NIFT 8.9 CGPA (2009 pass) Two years work ex since then. I had to resign citing health issues and return back to my home. Later I was diagnosed having relapsing Hepatatis A which resulted in liver complications and was bed ridden for almost four months. I am still under medication and am advised to stay at home under strict diet and not to indulge in any heavy physical work. Though I gave CAT this year without any preparation as I sick through entire last year and managed a 70 percentile. My doctor says that it would take another four to five months before I can start working again.
But now I am under the dilemma that should i start working again or should give CAT again and wait for the results before joining work. Actually I would be able to job only around august just two months before CAT.
Also will this two year idle gap become a big hurdle in my way to get an admission into Top 10 B Schools such as an IIM.
What could I do in the meantime as I am nothing but sitting ducks in my home as I cannot do any heavy physical work or live away from my home?
Please advice.

plz reply to my query as well..

Hi puys, i am interested in learning a foreign language to improve my profile, which don't have much to attract..

Which foreign language should I choose...which will have an impact on CV as well as post MBA job.

Hello Puys,

For all those professionals who are currently sitting idle and are looking for some practical / Job oriented courses, they all can go for one year of Post Graduation Diploma courses like Event Management, Advertising & Public Relations, Healthcare / Hospital Management, International Hotel Management and Corporate Administration & Facility Management.

All these courses have a duration of 1 year and also includes six months of Internship experience which gives you relevant work experience of a particular industry domain, required to get a good placement offer.

For Placements you can refer the following link

Thanks.

Can you not join the work after taking CAT, I mean from October onwards or so? I would not suggest waiting for the results though..
And I don't think that your gap in work-ex can cause much problems in getting admission, because the reason is genuine (Hepatitis A is rarer, relapsing and more complicated than Hep B. It does take months to years for complete recovery).
In the meantime, why don't you start preparing for CAT 13 and XAT 14.. You can use the reading material, make a thoroughly planned schedule and keep giving mock tests at regular intervals..

Regards and get well soon

just now got my cat results and failed utterly nt even decent %ile I completed my btech this yr (2012 passout)i wasted all this yr preparing fr cat i dnt know wat to do now plz someone suggest me any better option for me for doing MBA im askng for any avg Bschools who will give admission without taking cat scres as considerationmy acedamics10th-87.5inter-94.5btech-65mat feb2012 94 %ilenow im writing mat again in this feb plzz suggest meI dnt know wat to do now even i dnt have a job
By 'avg B-schools who do not ask for CAT scores' do you mean 'B-schools which ask for the other test scores'? From your MAT percentiles I guess you can score better this year and apply for the top colleges that accept MAT scores like Wellingkar (This is a guess, I don't know much about the colleges except the top-20)

What was your specialization in B Tech? Try and accept any job, at least as a filler. When I say any, I mean ANY job.

Also, how did you fare in the mock CAT, if you had taken any? Reliability of online CAT is lower than earlier and if your results are bad this time, it doesn't mean that they cannot be improved.

In short, try to get any job and prepare in a better way.. Give your best in MAT. Most importantly, don't get frustrated and take admission in any xyz b-school (which I think you are thinking of doing), or you will have to face the same trouble 2 years later. It will be just like postponing the trouble.

I will not sympathize you by saying any soothing words. Time is tough for you and it may be tougher for you in coming days. But it is only for a very short period. Just don't give up and don't take decisions for which you may have to regret later.

One fact: One of the newer IIMs gives additional points to work-ex. Interestingly, from 1 to 4 yrs work-ex the points go up. For 5 years and above, its 0 points. And there is a reason for that.

You should choose the college in which there is separate lateral placements process or else you will be at loss. The colleges you have applied to are not bad but they MAY not be the best match for you, except for Great Lakes. No idea about IFMR.

Also, about your CAT result, you performed better in QA but bad in VA. Why don't you make a strategy to crack VA (for example by focusing on RC and Reasoning only) and at the same time perform somewhat better in QA?

I would suggest to give yourself one more chance and crack CAT and XAT. Look out for a job and if you are unfortunate in that matter, try to volunteer for NGO etc to justify your gap. Hence, option 2. Why compromise when you have caliber.
