kia and DarkDark and OTHERS,
First of all we need to understand that we are here as a community to help each other. Secondly, this is a public forum. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you keep your emotions at bay for a while when you are asking or responding to a query. Emotional outbursts can happen if not taken care of properly.
DarkDark,
When you are trying to counsel someone, you need to take care of emotions that one might be going through or will go through on reading your post. You need to give the other person some space to understand you and for that it is necessary to condition yourself so as to gain some confidence of the person who is asking for counselling. The way you responded to kia's post was blunt. What you said is what kia may already know. She needed a kind of support system and that is the reason she joined PG and for that matter we all joined PG. There are other ways to say the same thing. You need to articulate well when responding to queries of the kind kia had asked. Moreover, she had not even asked any query. She just shared her heart out. At this time it was necessary that you like a good friend help her out. This is what PG is known for. She didn't asked for your help. It was you who decided that you will respond to that post. So, you should have articulated yourself in a better way.
We all have our share of problems. And we look out for others for various reasons - inspiration, consolation, help, advice, etc. Today it is kia. Tomorrow it can be us. It is a way of life. We are humans. Aren't we?
My situation is a little unique. First of all I am an MBA in Finance from a good coll + a PRM holder and currently working in a private bank as an Investment Advisor. When I joined my organization I had an idea that my job will be more finance oriented but a few months into the job I figured out that its just sales and nothing else. From that time I am looking out for a different job which has a similar pay as my current job. But till now no luck, either I get the profile dont get the pay, or I get the pay and not the profile.
And now I am totally frustrated at my job as sales is something I really cant do, So I have deiced to resign and probably by the end of Jan I will be done with the process. Now the q is if i get a job by that time its well and good. If I dont get then what. How do I get into a finance role while every opening I see wants candidates with relevant experience.
Puys your suggestions will be really helpful.
Hi,
I cannot be of much help. However, I think that if you are so badly want a non-sales, total-finance job then why don't you go for a lesser package. Obviously, it will depend on the obligations that you may or may not have. That is the only solution in sight. After you get a job keep looking out for a change. You may also try some KPO.

Yes, you can get a job if you wish to get one. Before that you need to decide what exactly you want to do - a job or MBA. Float your resume and you will get calls. What was your profile in HCL?

Palak, Yes I also know that my answer was rude. But the world is rude. Do you think anyone will survive if they just keep being sad and moan about their past? It's jungle out there. I could also reply with the layer of sophistication and formality and sympathy and warmth and what not. But this is not how it works in the real world. Look, even I didnt realize my faults but when you brought to my notice, I realized that I was rude. I knew that, but I just didnt notice that. People need to be noticed. I also know that Kia wanted only some warmth and support. What I gave was dry analysis and possible solution of the problem and that was not what Kia wanted. So, I got a groan from Kia. 😛 And I expected it. But what I have noticed in most cases is, when you give warmth and support more than a certain extent, people just get habituated to take the shelter of that support to hide from the reality. It is detrimental to themselves. And that was exactly the same case here, according to my understanding.
Anyways, each and everyone has their own understanding and study of human behavior and psychology. People like you try to sympathize and calm the others and be helpful. People like I just analyze. You feel you are more accurate and I feel I am. Our opinions differ here, but no-one is true or false. Then who are we to advise each other how the other should reply and how not?

DarkDark,
I understand that understanding of people is different. But when you are talking about human behaviour and psychology, then I think you have not studied psychology and therefore you have your own faded idea about human behaviour. What I am trying to tell you is that there is a way to deal with people who are in some kind of, say, depression. Being blunt is not good all the time. I know what you said was right but the way you said was, if not wrong, was not correct either. Be blunt but articulate yourself so that the other person doesn't get offended.
How it works in a real world is totally a different scenario and there are ways to put things about it in a different way. First, you need to console the person and then put your recommendations or suggestions. This is how you initially talk with a person and when he or she fails to understand then try to say the same thing in a different way - may be bluntly. However, before it you need to analyze the psyche of the person with whom you are interacting.
Right, no one is correct and as you said true or false. However, your same attitude can put some people and their families in deep trouble.
Hope you will understand it. This is a forum to help and not to be rude or shout. A person who came here because he or she couldn't talk to his or her friends because they were rude like you will have no place to go. Please help this place to handle such cases and issues.
If you do not agree then I will be blunt that please do not interact with people sharing their mind like kia. Let others handle it who can understand. People do not need you to sympathise with them. What they need is a little warmth and empathy. And when you provide this, you can surely change the way they think.

When you are using the terms like "Depression" so vaguely, do you know that Depression is a disorder? And there is something called DSM-4 criteria, which should be episodic, 5 out of 9 of which MUST be present, to diagnose a person as 'depressive'? Stay assured, i have ample knowledge of psychology, psychiatry, human brain anatomy, physiology, organizational behaviour, organizational development etc. About the rest, let's not make this a battleground. Pls refer to your inbox half an hour later. Regards.

Hi,
If you want to do MBA then go for it. You can definitely go for network related courses but at the same time float your resume so that you may get some interview calls.
Please refrain from any one on one talks which might make either of the involved users feel offended.
@ DarkDark
I understand that it's required to tell the reality of world to people. But there is a proper selection of tone and words for the same and that was pointed out by fellow puys and nothing more. Please take care from next time as what is obvious word selection for you might hurt someone else who is not going through a good phase.
Peace.. let the thread continue without any further one on one posts for the above issue.

Great move. My cousin also left his job with a top-notch company to make his career in Advertising. He did a course from Xaviers Institute of Communication for one year. Now he is working with an advertising company in Client Servicing and is happy!!
Do not be scared. You have been brave enough to listen to your heart. Just make sure that next steps that you take are well-planned and sorted out!!

Please clarify a point or two. You mean to say that your DoJ in Central Govt Job will be 2013? And you want to prepare for 2012 CAT without joining any other job? Also, when did you passed your graduation? What were you doing till now? Answer these questions and I will try to answer your query.

absolutely my DOJ is in 2013 and i want to prepare for cat 2012 and also i have an interview lined up for the position of an MT in a bank whose doj is expected to come earlier than that of the central govt one. I passed my graduation in 2010 and was in an IT job for 6 months but from 2011 i started preparing for cat and other govt job exams.
Really man people say that you should enjoy but i am sad as i couldnt get what i wanted this year.
