Sitting idle... need advice? What to do in current situation!

Sorry Boss I do not agree with U.
Not all the fields are same and they are not made for everyone.
U need to understand what u like. U need to do ur own set of study to find that out. Also, it takes a courage to follow it.

Else u will end up with a crying that my work is boring.
U need to love what u do ...!

I understand there are always constrains but that does not mean u stop following ur dream....

For some the destination and path together are dream , for some destination is important, for some path is ..!

So, following a dream without knowing where you are headed to and what exactly you want at the end of the day is foolish. What you are saying is repetition of my thoughts in different words!!

Not everyday u start knowing where u end it....
Sometime u just need to explore
Other than that I agree with u...

You just cannot keep exploring. Today you do not find electrical engineering interesting, you explore more, then you find finance is also not interesting, you explore further, then IAS is also not interesting, then where do you go.

SO, at least you should have rough idea why you want to pursue a particular interest. Just because your current job is frustrating and work-culture is not good cannot be the reason enough to take a plunge towards a field unless you have certain amount of interest in it. You cannot explore unless you know what you have to explore.

First give your best shot to XAT, then you will have ample time to think about everything else.

well i m nt dat kinda person who thinks that gals are not as strong as boyz....but if u r a gal living in small town.did B.E and dint got placed in any company and den the biggest problem you face is GALS ARE NOT SO EASILY ALLOWED TO GO TO METRO CITIES FOR SEEKING job....believe me guys...if a gal thinks abt goin to big cities for job searching they have to face many difficulties....

p.s. i know i have to face very tough time in interviews (hoping i will get call from atleast some decent b-schools) in explaining to them (interviewer) why i wasted 2 yrs after B.E sitting idle at home.......
p.s.s . during these idle years got my hand fractured (it added physical pain to my mental pain and set new standards for my agony)THATS MY STORY

ALL THE BEST

hi puys,
I am a chartered accountant having a post qualification experience of more than 23 months with two big4 audit firms (to be split as first 18 months in one and next 5 months in another). I had to quit the firm in novemeber to give my CFA level 1 exams this december. I have not looked for a job since then. Though i had quit my job to focus on CFA studies I would like to extend it to cover my CAT exams as well. I have always aspired to get into top bschools in India and plan to prepare for CAT exams this year. During my CA and CFA studies i have identified my areas of interests are in core finance that is away from just number crunching accounts/audit. Though I do like CFA subjects I believe that a career in the same would jeopardize my personal life (having already experienced it in the audit field) and hence I am more bent over MBA finance that would help me cover a broader range in finance to set up a career.
My question:
a. How much does a break of an year affect your chances of getting into a top bschool? I find pressure from my peers to get into a job. however my family can support itself and does not depend on my income.
b. I can get into my dad's CA firm that can provide me with ample time to focus on my studies. how will this look against my previous big4 experience.

snowdrop,
Get into your dad's CA firm it does not look bad at all after u have worked for close to 2 years in Industry.
But do not show any gap in the work ex. I am not the expert in the field to suggest u anything.

But I can tell not working anywhere will never look good than working in DAD's firm.!
However I do not think that 1 yr gap should be a lot of problem but u should be able to convince interviewer that you used it fruitfully...
I mean there will be lot of ppl who will give CFA and CAT while working so u have to show that u also did something important other than prep for both the exams

I assume that u have already know the path you want to follow so why think so much study hard and go get it.!!

well my story starts from here...

2003 : passed my 10 exams with 80%.. i want to go for commerce stream but my mum wanted (BADLY) me to go for science.on the top of it my parents send me to kota for IIT prep..i faced hell lot of health issues there and did as badly as i can in 12 boards...got 57% :banghead: yes i was so badly in shock that i got 2nd division...cried day and night..then anyhow i tried my best to compose my self and joined a decent private engg.coll...

2006 :
i was quiet ok with that private colg but den my mum applied for reconciling (Hoping that she can mk up for the mistake she made by forcing me for studing science and sending to kota) and bcz of that recouncling i got a govt engg clg...though it was a govt institute but it was hell bad...the environment there was really bad..at least way bad then that private clg....

2010:
i was not bad in studies infact my aptitude is strong...but i was not allowed to sit for any placement interview bcz of my 12 class result...

i was so depressed..came to home after finishing my engg in 2010 and siting idle uptill now.. ppl started showing their other side to me...all those who were nice to me started mocking, taunting me...

i prefer solitiude....i was so hurt ...m not at all bad in studies still i land up here doing nothing...and the worst enemy u will get in form of relatives who will mk fun of you for sitting idle after doing B.E.

CAT story: appeared without serious prepration for CAT in 2009 got 76% ile.i just wanted to go for better environment and gud ppl to live with so i thought i will re appear for CAT next year but those depresing tauntful and being the subject of laugh days and haunted by getting compared to ur siblings MY BRO IS IN IIT KHARAGPUR AND MY SIS IS ALWAYS A GOOD PERFORMER in her acads and doing a job....i was under the deep layers of depression so most shocking thing happened to me i got 63%ile in CAT 2010...situation become worse as no job in hand..absolutely screwed up acads and once again performed as badly as i can in MBA EXMAS....finally wrote CAT 2011...although section 1 was not good...still worked as hard as i can for SNAP but the horrible paper land me deep in shock now working even harder for XAT and hoping for best

Yes i am in a similar situation...
infact section1 for CAT 2011 was difficult for me as well..

But i would like to quote something..

When the world shoves you around you just have to get up and shove it back.
It's not like you can do anything by giving excuses.
If i die here then i am a man who could only make it so far.

I am a passout of Electronics & Comm. engg. in 2009 , didn't join [email protected] lacs p.a.

Our brokerage from past 6 months varies from some 10K per month to 70k per month , averaging around 25k-30k per month, although this can increase/decrease to any extent, but there is always uncertainity and no fixed income AND/OR Profit. Now I am confused b/w-
1)Shall i continue in this business with my father
2)Go for some job in financial markets ,
3)pursue specialized courses like PGPSM(by NISM),Mba-FM BTI-Ignou Or from IIFP , and maybe then go for Job.
Help me decide what to do, with your serious and experienced advice.

Why did you perform bad in 12th? Coz you had health issues. And you didnt want to go to science.
Why did you perform bad in the college? Coz it was a govt college and the environment was bad.
Why could you not find a job? Coz you had performed bad in the 12th standard.
If you knew that placements were going to be tough for you, why did you not prepare seriously for cat 2009?
Why did you not perform good in cat 2010? Probably coz people taunt you,(?) so you are in depression. (in fact, my siblings are much more intelligent than me, and when ppl say this to me, I feel proud. Its my bro/sis after all yar.)
Why did you perform bad in snap? Coz the paper itself was horrible.
Lets see how you perform in xat..
This is called fundamental attribution error. You think that everything wrong going with your life is not because of your fault. Everything is because of the others' fault.
The first thing you need to do is to accept the reality. May be life is not fair with you. But do you think it is fair with all the people who are in IITs and IIMs and the top-20 colleges and all? It is unfair to blame others for the things going wrong in your life. By doing this you are only harming yourself. Stop cheating yourself and be brave.

Well said, and not to mention the fact that, the interviewer will be asking the same questions if you put up such incidents infront of them.
Why did you perform bad in 12th? Coz you had health issues. And you didn't want to go to science...........

making high claims is a easy job.....wen u have to face something really hard in life then only u will come to know...STOP acting like a hero or mr. perfect.....

Hi, am looking for a job in Baroda in finance/marketing profiles. I have completed MBA this year. I can forward my CV to the person interested. Feel free to pm me. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you ..am sitting idle n jobless for now

HI puys,

My situation is a little unique. First of all I am an MBA in Finance from a good coll + a PRM holder and currently working in a private bank as an Investment Advisor. When I joined my organization I had an idea that my job will be more finance oriented but a few months into the job I figured out that its just sales and nothing else. From that time I am looking out for a different job which has a similar pay as my current job. But till now no luck, either I get the profile dont get the pay, or I get the pay and not the profile.

And now I am totally frustrated at my job as sales is something I really cant do, So I have deiced to resign and probably by the end of Jan I will be done with the process. Now the q is if i get a job by that time its well and good. If I dont get then what. How do I get into a finance role while every opening I see wants candidates with relevant experience.

Puys your suggestions will be really helpful.
