hey thaks for your reply guys any senior testers who can guide me better??????
Hi Rohit,
I have been working in Infosys for the past 2 years on software testing and i will put forward my experiences. As many ppl mentioned above software testing mainly involves understanding the functional requirements of the project, writing test cases, executing test scripts/scenarios. During my work , i have been involved in all kinds of testing both performance and automation testing (using tools) and manual testing. Testing services are in huge demand and experienced testers are in huge shorfall (especially in Infy, where they borrow experienced QA people from other IBUs...this is my personal experience)......Testing also has great opportunities onsite as currently lot of requirements are there for onsite.....It definitely is a great thing to do and in my opinion , as important as development, as here in Infosys some 60% of projects involve QA work both at onsite/offshore....You also get to learn about different domains....and if you are looking to do your MBA preps , there isnt a better area to work in..............again speaking from experience.............:)

:wow: Welcome to the frustrated manual testers club. On a more serious note this is the whole issue which is being pointed out many ppl here, if u are getting disheartened in a month then come to think of the plight of ppl who are doing this crap for year after year. Anyway my advice would be to stick to the job and think of better avenues like MBA or finding some good work within testing. But having said that if this is terribly detesting then dont thick twice before changing to development work in some gud companies. ALL the best.
well as much as i want to leave ( and i still have the offer from jkteck) but the things that make me wanna try testing are also there i am hell lotta confused right now
koi to maadad karo 😞 please guys reply i am waiting for your advice
Hi Neha, i have beenworking as a software tester for the past 2 years .It is a field with great career opportunities ( if you are interested ). Both manual and automated testing , is witnessing tremendous growth. If you have good knowledge of one testing tool like QTP/WinRunner/LoadRunner , you can get good packages from leading MNCs.PM me for any further doubts.

Well you can get articles like these for every field thanks largely to a booming economy so don't determine your future based on other's opinion about it. Not to say that testing is not a good field, it is a field which has shown great growth over the last 3-4 years and the same might continue as well for many years. The fact that testing is an integral part of IT services industry means that the later's future growth will determine the growth for testing. And going by the current trend and expectations the Indian IT services industry should become $100 billion by 2010. So this means good growth prospects for techies.
But the bottomline is are you comfortable and happy doing what you are doing? Are you getting enough learning from your current job or it is monotonous? Is your inclination towards something else? Do u think that sticking to your present job\ field can fulfill your long term ambitions?
An honest answer to all these should determine your future course. Having said that always take a well thought out decision and make a change only when you have an attractive enough alternative.
@neha - It all depends upon yourself. If u don't feel comfortable then definitely you need to move on but at the same time let me warn you there is no gurantee that you'll enjoy the other work (in ur case its development). As u are employee of HCL Tech, you are getting a brand on ur CV which will be helpful if u want to pursue MBA in future + you will have the time to prepare for MBA. I haven't heard of JKTechnosoft, so cannot say anything abt it + there is no surity of the kinda work you'll get there.
I know manual testing is a monotonous, it sucks, no intellectual gain apart from the understanding of the application(if at all). But u don't have any other good option. What i'll suggest is stick to ur present job, try to look for automated testing work which involves scripting, coding within ur company and side by side give interviews of other companies - apply through sites, friends etc. You are a fresher, there will be lot of oppurtunities for you.
Remember one thing don't go by what others say. As Sidharth had rightly said in one of his posts that we Indians have a herd mentality. Jo sab kahenge wohi sahi hai. Its not always true. You may like something which others may not like. Yaar, you are working for yourself and not for others. You should satisfy yourself. One last thing if u have MBA in mind then i would suggest go for the job which offers you max time to study.
These were my 2 cents. Decision rests with you. Take ur time and decide. If u really think coding is the work you need to do then go ahead (but i still believe join a company which is atleast known). Jagah jagah interviews dete raho.
i was just confoused over if it really a shit job? and i am not sure if want to go for mba (as someone asumed) so i am looking at it from a long term perspective. thats y i am so apprehensive about it??:

hi neha, progressively tool based testing is becoming more popular. so learning a gud tool and shifting to wards make sense. also the shit job definition has to be yours only as how you find it. whether you want an MBA or not, in future apps testing will demand domain knowledge in that specific domain/vertical etc(mfg, aerospace, BFSI, retail...). thats the way world will go in future.
had you liked your jon u wudnt have posted/started this thread. if there is a discontent get counseled by seniors in industry, ppl u know from personal terms etc.
HI guys Software testing is a wonderful field You can also try your hands on Software Automation which has some development and creativity involved. You can get lots of details on software automation and testing in www.software-automation.org in forums section.
DOES ANY OF YOU GUYS HAVE IDEA ABOUT A GOOD TESTING SCHOOL IN DELHI NCR. HOW R THE FOLLOWING. 1>WEBTEKLABS NARAINA INDUSTRIAL AREA 2>DUCAT NOIDA 3>PURE TESTING NOIDA WHAT ARE THE ENTRY LEVEL SALARIES FOR FRESHERS IN TESTING.
Rohit, I'm also seeking Training in Testing. I attended a Demo class At DUCAT and liked it so much that I want to join there only but the only thing is I took a class of .NET Technologies as I wanted to do .NET training but now I wanna do training in testing. So, I'll try n have one demo class of testing as well n if i like there testing class also,of which there is high probability, then I'll join Ducat only. But now I wanna check Pure Testing,Noida also as after reading ur post here I came to know of this institute as well. Plz keep in touch n lemme know if u also find any good institute....U can mail me at [email protected] Regards, Ajay.
hi i have option of joining jktechnosoft noida(software arn of jk group) they can put me on progress4gl or java. any idea about the company and all? so now what shold i choose testing at hcl tech or the above mentioned offer.(the pay is more orless the same)
Hi Neha, I'm also in HCL Technologies. I joined there on 7th Sep. as a Trainee. U know what, I've done MCA but I'm working in HR as of now as I came to know that I may get job here only but later I'll be shifted to Technical field. So, I'm staying here only and gonna join training in Testing although I thought of joining training in .NET but my cousin also an MCA working in PUNE in a big MNC called me up today and said Testing is better.
So, What I wanna say is..yes initially it counts to get branded name on ur CV so I'm here working in HR otherwise I never wanted to work in completely different field but as now I've come to know from my colleagues in HCL that I'll ultimately get placed in my own field that is Technical so I'm not worrying bout working in HR. U can mail me at [email protected] in case u wanna know something bout HCL Technologies or need any help and I'd also like to know from u what all u are doing in testing? Why are you so bored by testing? Regards, Ajay.
Any dude has Idea about "Rational POrtfolio Manager" (a IBM Product) y i'm asking that is Testing RPM is not boring as some of the posts tells and u'd know the whole functionality..
Thats the case with any Product, TEsting gives birds eye view of the Product..I think I'm right..
I am a B.Tech, Electical and Electronics, from the 2007 batch. I have an offer from a very good firm for testing profile, but due to certain reasons my joining there has been delayed till March. Currently I am working in a not so big firm(it's a European MNC, still trying to create a foothold in India) with the profile of a developer(.Net).
Should I make a move from this firm once my other joinin date comes? The pkge in the other firm is higher than my current firm, but my current firm nearer to where I live. However, the other firm is also in NCR, so I wont have to relocate if I plan to work there. But my commutaion time would increase considerably. And when I say considerably, I mean if I reach my current firm in 10 mins, it'll take me some 2 hrs to reach the other firm.

What you basically need to decide is whether you are comfortable as a developer or not. I have been a Software tester for over a year and a half.. and I must tell you that the skill-sets and attributes required in a testing profile are very differnt from those of a developer.
One needs to know how to BREAK the system.. and be bale to articulate herself very well.. You need to understand the client's requriements and ensure that the software complies to security standards... the exact specifications of what you do depends on your organization and your project but broadly the work is interesting and could in in certain cases less technical than a development role.
It is upto you to decide where your strengths lie.
The res of the things you mentioned are purely personal factors that you need to decide based on the trade-off!
