I totally agree with u buddy. there is no diff between the two insti apart from the fact that they are at diff locations.
Mdi charges more fees but i think the infra justifies it. otherwise i feel there can not be any other criteria to choose one over other.......(i.e. if u are not really interested in social work).

Any comments are welcome.

DO U MEAN THATIT IS MOREOF CALL THAT WHICH CITY U WANNA BE IN?

Me needs help too in deciding whether to opt for SP Jain or MDI ... getting very conflicting opinions as of now ...

I am in final year of Comp Engineering in Mumbai with 99.34 in CAT and one IIM call (IIMC) which if it works out shall simplify my decision making process considerably!!

Anyhow, as of now I've got to look at MDI v/s SP Jain ...

Like Aggy, I'm pretty geog-neutral though I was wondering whether the Mumbai factor gives SPJ the edge ... Obviously, SPJ fees are lower, but the MDI campus is probably superior. Not too sure though that either of these factors count too much finally ...

Another factor is that while I'm fairly sure I want to go for marketing (which is what I've got at SPJ) at MDI I'll have the option of changing my mind. If someone could throw light on what the marketing placements are like at SPJ/MDI then that would be great ... does a marketing specialization mean one is cut out completely from it/fin jobs??

I know it's finally going to be an individual call on which insti to pick and I doubt either would be a mistake as such. But nonetheless, please help folks with any other opinions which would help in making the decision ...

ManDevIan / Neonic it'd be great if we all could have your views on this ...

Thanks! 😃

Its not only location..... between SP JAIN and MDI.....

MDI has one of the best student exchange program in place.... i would say after tops IIMs i.e. A and B....

Regards
Mohit

Also one more fact remains... that whatever figures come at SP are more due to huge intake of work exp ppl there and therefore more laterals... while MDI does not have so much inclination towards work exp... but than also placement figs almost same.... this means that as an institute corporates percieve more value for MDI...

Mohit

1) for the peson interested in marketing. I think MDI is an excellent institute in marketing. Better than sp jain which is good in systems. so if marketing is your ball, then mdi will be a good game.

2) mumbai is THE land of opportunities.

3) Life at mdi is preety cool as gurgaon is growing preety fast.

4) if you are interested in growing your values and ethics and social works then sp jain should be your call.

5) if you are looking for better placements as a fresher, then mdi is better place.

6) mdi is growing preety fast and publicity really plays an important role.

I hope i have helped you...

though we should have some more institutes in it for comparison, sp and mdi are part of tier 2...
more or less in the same boat... it shouldnt matter much...
like all the iims and isb would be tier 1....

Among someone from lets say a small town in india, small city i think u should absolutely choose SP for the mumbai experience... ofcourse i am biased i am from mumbai... But mumbai can be a extremely positive influence on your life... Those who already live in fast cities... can enjoy a nice campus life at MDI. I think SPs campus sucks.... only lookswise ofcourse...

Course/faculty/content wise analysis is also important... If you are paying more at MDI find out why? they could have some more interesting facilities.... i am not aware of these details though... someone else should go deeper into this....

Long Term MDI could come of better than SP unless SP builds a new independent campus somewhere....

have fun,
K

i totally agree with u that these are tier 2 institutes...but u know wat I know atleast 4-5 people who passed out from ISB after paying 13 lacs and are working in Infy getting a package of 4.5-5. So the bottomline is that it depends more on ur personal capability than the institutes reputation. And these two insti are having totally diff spaces...as in they are both good and are known for diff specialisations. so ultimately it also depends on ur interest of specialisation and as i mentioned earlier on other trivial factors which might be important for some.

I beg to disagree. there is difference in the institutes in terms of Alumni base in which SPJ scores heavily over MDI. Rest things are more or less same..

although SPJain started more than a decade earlier than MDI, but I personally (according to my necessity and requirements) weigh MDI more over SPJ.
As far as the alumni base is concerned, MDI started with a bang and is consistently ranked above spj everywhere.
moreover, i think even you would agree that better people are going in mdi than spj.
how can i say this???????
for admissions its following a policy similar to iims, and they all of them can't be wrong. It gives a lot of weightage to cat score and then a very transparent gd and pi. all the iims do the same.
while for spj... everyone knows.:)

then, inspite of being in mumbai, nitie is better in terms of extra curricular and acads and industry linkage and perception etc. even iit bombay is better in terms of placements and bajaj in terms of fees.

And MDI will weigh over spj in terms of growth. infact its director Mr. pritam singh has already done a great job in IIM L and now he is doing the same in mdi. 68 full time faculty really means something man.

Hi all,

In my opinion, some of the parameters that need to be kept in mind when choosing between 2 very similar colleges like MDI n SPJ (equally good placements) are :

  1. Industry Interface
  2. Infrastructure
  3. Flexibilty with regards to choosing your own courses
  4. Ratio of part-time/guest faculty to full-time faculty
  5. People ( read :board) at the helm of affairs
  6. Fees
  7. Exchange programs if any
  8. Extra-curricular activties on offer
  9. Institute culture
Here, I would conside these parameters in decreasing order of importance the same way as I've mentioned.
Most of the above info is easily available via the net.... according to me, once you can emotionally detach yourself from all kinds of factors and rate the institutes as per these parameters, things should become a little clear

Hope I have not confused anyone

Good Post Ron 😃 May be you could give rating to SP/ MDI/ NITIE on these factors accoring to ur view.. it would help..

Well I never said that MDI is better than SPJ . However in terms of industry interaction I would rate SPJ slightly better. Plus another thing to be kept in mind is the work ex thingy that SPJ so heavily favors. Actually if you meet these guys with 3-4 years of industry experience there perspective of the whole thing is so different it adds dimensions to any discussion.
Another thing is that I never have believed in these rankings being published. They consistently rate MDI over both XL, FMS, IIM I and IIM K and sometimes even IIM L. These ratings rate ICFAI as the 12th best institute and stuff like that which is above IIM K and TISS and XIM B and SIBM and SCMHRD and NMIMS .. o common this list is endless. . I can't believe them.
PS:- I am not trying to deride and institute. All are good and the best one is the one in which I would get selected. I am merely stating the facts.
