The word reservation is a misnomer. The appropriate word for it used in the Indian constitution is 'Representation'. It is not given to anyone in his individual capacity. It is given to individual as a representative of the underprivileged community.
This article has taken approach of Hinduism Nyaya or Tarka Sastra. Purva paksha will raise questions and doubts. Siddhanta or Uttara paksha will address that. It contains twelve major doubts from current youngsters asked over social media.

1. Dalits are taking away the shares of general people.
This is not true. Dalits are given reservation based on their population in country. They have 25 crores population. So they are given 20% reservation/share from total available resources in Govt of India. That means they are not taking away the share of general castes. Rather they are given their share. So what is wrong or injustice with it?
It is based on caste wise population share. And justified as long as caste wise equal share is concerned.
As per estimation - In general the upper caste people are rich; most of them are holding major, higher posts. Sometimes all members from a family are in good position in Govt sector job. On the other hand Dalits representatives are not present in higher posts. Most of the time they are in lower rank or involved low profile job. Even their deserved 20% seats are not filled due to vacancies. Dalits population is 20%, but they are holding just 8% economy share. Economy, position are already skewed in India. So we need to correct this skew.
At the very top level of the government bureaucracy, out of a total of 149 secretary-level officers, there were no SC officers while there were only 4 ST officers, as of March 2011, according to a reply given by the MoS in the Prime Minister's Office. Even in the most sought after civil services, IAS, IPS and IFS, the proportion of SC, ST and OBC officers was below the mandated quotas. This is further confirmed by the huge number of vacancies in government positions reserved for SCs and STs. Whereas in Group D jobs nearly 40% of "safai karamcharies" are SC.

2. Dalits are holding Govt post without proper merit.
This is not true. There are many Dalits, more intelligent, revolutionary than their peers. Dalits have qualified the proper test before getting Job. They are not given job out of mercy.
For few cases, they are given a relatively lower cut of mark. It is understood due to poverty and due to lack of proper nutritious food their brains are not developed. They are psychologically depressed due to five thousand years suppression by upper caste. So Govt is giving them opportunity to uplift them to join in main stream.
Please note this is a social upliftment against discrimination. Earlier Dalits were not allowed to study, do business, to rule etc. So Govt is giving them opportunity to grow. Society is not decided by marks in school exam. Rather it is decided by the livelihood of people in that society. We can not kill dumb, dull and illiterate people. They are also citizen of India. They have also given votes to elect Govt. The vote of higher mark and vote of lower mark are of equal value. So India has to take care of its 25 crores Dalits based on Human rights and humanity.
It is seen in next generation, their children are doing better performance. Currently Some of these SC/ST are gold medallist, scientist, IAS toppers. etc But out of shame or due to fear of humiliation they don't disclose their caste in public. To get false dignity even many Dalits claim to belong to general caste in their circle. Sogeneral people get wrong impression that all Dalits are from low cut-of-mark. This proves given the opportunity, Dalits can do better than general caste. So this method works.
We should have a movement where all successful Dalits to come out in the open and encourage others.

3. Dalits reservation hinders county's growth
This is not true. There was a recent survey by an International agency to know the impact of reservation in Indian railways. They found there is no impact on Railways due to Dalit reservation. Rather Dalits are working hard to prove their impression. Link - Quotas do not hurt efficiency, says study
In India there are many talented people. Even from reserved community there are many. Truth is - India is lagging due to lack of facility in research, worst work culture, less salary, due to corruption in every sector in India.
Many claims that general caste people are leaving India and going abroad. But note, SC/ST people are also leaving India and settling in foreign lands. So reservation is not the cause for country's brain-drain.
The country progress depends on honesty and hard work. We find most intellectuals are corrupt and lazy. The best talents are selected for IAS. But they do corruption. How foreign MNC is working in India? But Indian public sector is not working in-spite of 80% best talent from general caste given to them.
Every community has produced both intellectuals and stupid. So why should we identify one community as a bottleneck for India's progress? I can't imagine a progressive India by ignoring 25 crores Dalits.

4. Reservation should be based on economical status
Please note, SC/ST reservation is given for their social upliftment, not just financial upliftment. We need to make sure they are not discriminated and exploited. So they must be in three branches of Govt decision making - law-makers, decision enforcement -judiciary and bureaucracy even if they are rich. Otherwise who will assure the security of SC/ST from exploitation which is continuing since five thousand years? - They must have community representative or partner in Govt.
However reservation from other jobs like academic, medical, engineering etc can be excluded for creamy SC/ST.
It is seen in history, these similar social stigmatizations, hegemonic groups form a tight circle and keep outsiders out e.g women, blacks, immigrants. In India uppercastes have always kept lower caste out of politics, judiciary, education etc. For example Manu Smriti 10.129 says - Shudra can not accumulate money, they should provide free service. Manu, X. 126 says Shudra has no eligibility to study. so on. In the words of Dr. Ambedkar,Indian caste system is a division of labour accompanied by this unnatural division of labourers into watertight compartments.
The purpose of reservation is to get rid of caste barrier and caste discrimination. It acts as an antibiotic for caste discrimination. We don't need reservation for financial growth.Rather there can be stipend, exemptions, subsidies and interest free loans given by Govt.
Social status can only be achieved by participating in law-making and governing. So reservation is given for equal representation in government. And this is only way we could avoid separate electorate demanded by Dr. Ambedkar. Please refer The Poona Pact, an agreement between Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi signed on 24 September 1932 at Yerwada Central Jail in Pune, India.
Anyway all lower caste people are working as labourers, maids, small farmers. So these low profile jobs are fully reserved for lower caste. Still they are under-paid. So we need to solve the issues from bottom.

5. Reservation is making caste stronger
It is due to fact that earlier lower caste people were not raising voice. Now they are protesting openly due to support of law. So it appears to upper layers that - castefeeling is strengthened . But it is not true.
Earlier Dalits never used to counteract the evil doings and dominance of upper castepeople. But now they don't want to be subjugated. And they are active in public life. Due to education and law-order support like SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Actlower caste people are NO more passive in nature. Due to this retaliation from Dalits, upper layers get an impression that caste feeling among Dalits got increased. The fact is, caste feeling has not increased, rather Dalits are no more obedient to whims of upper layers.
If you see in USA, the lower race were always demanding in nature. Always there was clash between communities. This triggers civil war like situation in Europe and USA. There are American civil right activists like Martin Luther King Jr. But in India we have never heard any civil war like situation due to caste conflicts. It is only due to lower caste people were never complaining in nature or may be they were trained like that for centuries. They were accepting in nature. Only after Dr. Ambedkar they got political freedom. So reservation helped to boost the self-confidence of Dalits.
If you analyse job requirement, Government is now codifying and keeping the practice alive. Most dry defecation related Govt jobs are given to Dalits. In Group D jobs nearly 40% of "safai karamcharies" are SC whereas their quota is just 15%. So Govt is enforcing past inhumane practices which makes caste stronger.

6. There is no discrimination in India
This is wrong notion. I suggest, each general caste people to do this real life experiment. One can do a simple experiment to know if there is discrimination in any area. Visit that place and introduce yourself as you are from Dalit caste. And see the people's reaction. And next visit introduce yourself as from higher caste. And see the difference. This will prove if reservation is required for that area or not. There is a high probability of humiliation with Dalit caste.
Unfortunately even today common dining is a distant dream. Leave aside inter-castemarriage, people even do not participate village rituals, final-rites. They maintain separatecrematory ground based on caste. Lower caste people hesitate to disclose their lineage due to fear of humiliation and insult. As long as uppercaste people are curious to know other's caste and as long as lower castepeople are hesitating to say their caste openly, there is a sign of inequality, there is a sign of humiliation, there is a sign of suppression.

7. How long this reservation will continue.
The basic assumption of reservation is - 25 crore dalit Indians are discriminated based on caste. Please note, Human is not discriminated. Rather the caste is discriminated.
And discrimination is due to two factors (a) purity (b) trade.
(a) Purity - Lower caste is considered impure by birth. Note, impure is different from unclean. Higher caste is considered relatively pure and priests are most pure.
(b) trade - lower caste is taken granted for manual labour. Higher caste people are reluctant to accept manual labour. This is changed a lot due to exposure to European industrialization and international competition.
So the goal is to eliminate the skew present for above two factors. It is understood that -lack of representatives in 'political power or Govt' in past has caused this skew. So we need to ensure population wise percentage of political representatives or partners must be present in governing forever in future India. Those representatives will ensure NO further caste skew in society.
So it is not about rich-vs-poor. It is about partnership in governing. Time will come, other sectors like education, medical, engineering will be removed from reservation except governing. Governing has to continue with a population wise partnership from Dalit community. The areas where Dalits aredominant in population, that area must be represented by those communities in order to preserve the democracy and fraternity.

8. With reservation how equality can be achieved
This question is asked based on false assumption that - all Hindu castes are equal, there is no low caste and there in no discrimination. This is wrong. There is already an inequality in Hindu society. And reservation is trying to nullify that. One can check with so called upper caste, if they are ready for common dining and inter-caste marriage. People settled in USA, having IIT/IIM degree come back to India to get married from own caste particularly. Even if they grow materially, but they don't leave caste rules. So how can you say - Hindus don't follow caste rules? Suppose people with this mentality seat in governing, then they will pass verdict against intercaste mixing, they will try to preserve caste rules. And then this creates casteskew and caste inequalities.
The same articles of the constitution which describe equality as a fundamental right also provide for reservation. It is the human rights NOT to be discriminated and live with dignity. Both articles 15 (prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth) and 16(Equality of opportunity in matters of public employment)allows for exceptions to be made for the advancement of socially and educationally backward and under-represented groups, in particular SC/STs. Reservation will be removed in due course of time. Given the slow progress it may take another few hundred years to uplift socially and educationally backwardDalit class.Unless we are uplifting Dalits, India can not be self-dependent because Dalits are the major working force on the ground. We can not progress by keeping aside 25 crores Dalits, major human resource.
Indians made a heinous crime by isolating labourers by birth. So their possibility of growth beyond birth profession and equal chance in social life was not given to them till 1947 due to monopoly. So it will take time to uplift 25 crores Dalits into main stream society. Since they are given their population wise share of 20% reservation, so it does not undermine the rights of other Indians.

9. Reservation is not reaching low income Dalit groups
It is a general impression that upper layer Dalits are misusing reservation, taking advantage through generations and they are the bottleneck for other deserved low income groups among Dalits. In fact there are few cases but it is very rare.Even today Dalits representatives are missing in higher Govt posts. Most of them are centred in 3rd or 4th grade jobs.
It is seen through the upliftment done for few generations, they are moving up in ladder and joining in IIT, IIM, IAS etc. Most of the Dalits even today are not able to live in city to get proper training for entrance test due to lack of financial support. They are forced to join as clerks, peons to support family. I know one state topper joined as clerk to support family and he could not wait to prepare for better job.
On the other hand, as per Indian constitution Article 15 and 17, discrimination and untouchability need to be abolished. Just financial growth does NOT mean socially acceptable. We need to ensure they are NO more discriminated in social life. They must be represented in major economy share, higher education, political power, social dignity etc. Which is why imposing the creamy layer on the SC/ST reservation will defeat the sole purpose of social upliftment and defeat the provisions of the constitution. For OBC - children of those who are earning more than six lakhsannually are excluded from OBC reservation.
SC/ST group must participate in Govt three decision making bodies even if they are affluent - law-makers, decision enforcement - judiciary and bureaucracy. Since this is a partnership in governing, economy status can not be imposed. Rather community representation is more important. For example economically stable Dalits should be allowed to join as parliamentarians, in high portfolio managements in Govt. Currently there are 131 [84 SC + 47 ST out of total 543] parliamentarians from Dalits and they don't contest based on economy, rather they are elected based on caste.
However high income or creamy Dalits should to be filtered out from non-governing jobs like engineering, medical etc. So we should demarcate governing job and non-governing job while applying creamy concept.
If we say, only low income group can contest in elections and join in higher management post, then that must be applied for upper layers also. Are higher castepeople ready to give same space in politics to their low income counterpart? Are they ready to resign from Govt higher management positions for the sake of respective poor counterpart?

10. Upper caste also needs Reservation
Since reservation is given for discriminated lower births, the so called upper layers should be ready to claim lower birth. Are the ready to join SC/ST caste and claim it openly?
But an individual can not declare himself or herself as belongs to SC/ST category. The whole community or caste people need to claim as lower birth. They have to prove they were treated low by upper castes. A single individual can not take this decision. It is a caste decision. And the caste needs to prove they are treated in a low manner in local area. Please note it is for lower caste, not for person as a individual. Even today also many castes are introduced into Dalits reservation through verification by SC/ST commission.
Reshuffle the caste which is the basis of reservation. Reservation will be redundant due to lack of hereditary caste support. But we keep the people's caste as it is. And want to remove reservation. It will not work because as long as the cause is present, the effect is inevitable.Caste is a national sin. Raise the voice against it. We need to cure the original-sin. Unless there is caste-conversion, reservation has to be limited to lower caste because they are considered as low.
Since this is a major bottleneck to social skew, why our school texts do not teach it. At least one chapter on Indian caste system - mentioning the pros and cons of this system etc. There are vast literatures by both foreign and Indian academicians on caste system. But people don't read those literatures. For example how many Indians have read Dr. Ambedkar books? Why do we assume it will be vanished automatically? Why it is not a part of education system? In school children study - A for apple, B for Ball, C for cat. But at home we all teach C for caste.

11. Upper caste says, my forefathers did mistake, why should I suffer
Even today the same mentality, same oppression is going on. And upper caste people inherit forefather's status, property, caste privileges like purity, priest work. If we claim the good part of forefather, then we must be responsible for the wrong part of our ancestors. For example if forefathers have taken away some land, or taken some money as loan, we are responsible to return those back. It is said, if a cobra bites, then the same cobra can take back its poison.
Please note Dalit reservation is based on 'caste' because they are considered as low in Hindu society. So we should focus on why they are considered as low by birth. What mistakes a Dalit child did for which he is given low status in society?
Going by Individual is a difficult process. And there can not be a full proof method to validate an individual. Then Govt authority has to visit each house. And verify if he/she is discriminated. And Country makes policy based on popular opinions, not based on individual's like and dislike. For example - when Govt makes dowry harassment law. It goes by popular opinions. Not by individual case. Due to this law, may be few Husbands are suffering, but that is not a popular opinion.Similarly reservation is based on popular notion that lower caste people are still discriminated by upper caste Hindus. And in Hinduism person is not discriminated, rather caste is discriminated. If that person changes his religion, then he lost his reservation because he is no more discriminated for his birth.
Why don't the upper castes openly declare their forefather did a crime by dividing Hindus based on birth and doing discriminations? Why don't they come forward today to say caste by birth is wrong? Rather caste is based on Guna-Karma as said in Gita? Why don't we preach Advaita oneness which talks same divinity and purity in all Humans? Upper caste people should join lower caste groups saying they are of equal status, equal purity. Nobody is from high caste or low caste.
Truth is, even today there are caste advocates. They support birth based division, high-low, purity-impurity etc. Even today there are atrocities done in the name of low caste. So it takes time to change the mentality of upper castepeople.

12. Hinduism does not discriminate Lower caste people
This is a grey area. Veda does not mention caste system because it is a spiritual book. But most of the Hindu Smritis and Dharma sutras like Manu smriti etc mention human division and caste by birth. Caste system by birth is the basis of Hindu society, so a part of Hinduism as well. It is shocking to read, scholars like Shankaracharya of 8th century, upheld the Smritis to declare, lower caste people are like living corpse, so untouchables, lower caste people are not fit for any ceremony, slit the tongue and kill them if they read Veda. Nobody dares to challenge the priest reservation in temples which is continuing since time immemorial. People take granted this religious monopoly, unconditional social dignity and privileges given from temple funds. Whereas people tend to question any help provided for secular reasons like discriminations, poverty.
So birth based division is very natural in Hinduism. So Govt took that as criteria for policy making based on popular opinion. This caste division is not discovered by Indian Govt.
Irrespective of religious texts principles, History says, there is a community Shudra, which is suffering and deprived since five thousand years. From Buddha till Raja ram mohan roy, then Dr. Ambedkar, all have tried for caste reformation. Till today India has done only injustice to them. Due to effort of our modern reformers they got political freedom for last sixty five years. And these sixty-five years is nothing compared to five thousand years oppression. Even today things are not stable and favourable for them. If we remove reservation today, what is the guarantee that, they will not be oppressed again? -So we must have SC/ST participating in governing as a partner. They must be in parliament, assemblies, judiciary, bureaucracy. We must have protective acts for Dalits like SC/ST prevention of atrocities Act.

Conclusion
This analysis is based on Dalit reservation history starting from Poona pact in 1932. People don't read constitution and its related historical documents. Country has certain policies which are well thought of by many intellectuals. They are not just emotional toddles.
If somebody wants to change the system, then he/she has to understand the system fully.But current generation youths just blame reservation system without reading a single page from history, Govt constitution and without any knowledge about existing inequalities in Hindu social life.
We propose political freedom and a partnership in governing for Dalits. Communityrepresentation in every field is most important for social acceptance and future stability of Dalit communities. India would come to a stage where no citizen is discriminated based on birth and nobody remains as untouchable - caste-less India is the goal of reservation.
