those who post their experiences plzzzz do post ur percentiles and your willingness to join tapmi....this is a humble request
hi... my gd was on 18th n final interview on 19th. the infrastructure is ok kinds. faculty is good. i was in panel 3... there were 15 of us n case study was a total fish market. nobody was listening to anyone. the panel member interrupted twice... but in vain. i couldnt get a word in. there was guy who kept interrupting everyone... but then the panel member picked me n another guy n asked us to speak.
the extempore topics were: kareena- the next heart throb, newspapers- a good reading habit. i spoke for 2mins n a6 seconds. i was questioned about it in the interview...
in the interview there were a few questions on acads.... it was mostly, why mba? why tapmi? ur strengths? wat can u give back to tapmi? why didnt u speak in the gd?
the final interview was better... i was questioned on my background? which coll are u from (l. d college of engg) wat does l.d stand for? how old is ur coll? why mba? n then to acads...
manipal is a beautiful place. besties to those who have their interview now.
hi all,
heres how my gd pi went
gd: case study based on labour issues was a big fight
extempore: my favourite vegetable
pi: general, few questions on acads and my poor performance in engg( 59.14%)
directors int: 2 minutes, kind of a stress interview, tried to laugh off my work ex n my overall profile
btw this is the 1st time im postin here, so no brickbats pls if the formatting is messed up or somethin:)

Hi fellow MBA aspirants!
I got a call from TAPMI and i've got a ton of questions which i'll split up into different posts so if anyone wants to answer to a specific one the whole thing need not be quoted.
1. Do they have only case-studies for GDs in TAPMI?

2. I'm doing Electrical & Electronics Engg. I've heard they are drilling low CAT scorers. Do u know if they ask acads. questions in this field? If so which area do they stress on- Electrical or electronics or both?

5. Anyone else gotta report on 26th? PM me or drop me a mail please. my route is Vizag>Chennai>Mangalore>Udipi. Maybe we can meet up in between! 😃
i'll be really grateful if any of my above queries are resolved.
great site u got going here folks, pity i didn't pop-in sooner.
CYa!
in reply to ur questions:
1. as far as i have heard, only case studies are being given. remember that they want practical solutions, so dont beat around the bush. think like a manager, thats the key. some work ex definitely helps u put the whole case in a business perspective.
2. im an elec engg myself, and one thing they will ask u is to justify ur marks. if u have a low score u must defend it, n if uve scored very high u must explain why u dont wanna do an mtech. be prepared 4 some basic tech questions. if u answer the first one or two, they wont bother u.
3. the ext would be held after the gd, so the only ppl listening r ur group, and the panel. btw, u have to be seated as u give ur ext.
4. hotel kedeyoor is good. so is rukmini residency. if ur going to kedeyoor, book from before. rates r approx 300-350 for a room with a tv.
all the best
hey rohit,
well i am an electrical engineer myself...the questions are very very basic...like one of the panelists asked me wudnt we have double the energy if we just halve the voltage ....and one was on the working of the fan..so these are the types of questions that were asked...and some questions on personality.....be relaxed they r just testing ur composure and confidence.
ATB...

any mech engg who have finished their tapmi interview pllllllzzzzz post the acads questions i have the interview 0n 24 plzz postur suggestion on the book tio refer for acads
hai man ur post is the best and most informative. i would like a help. if u can post the acads questions ion mech it would be veeeery great plllllzzzz
dear PG'ites,
i'm delighted to know that my post helped to alleviate ur agitated and anxious minds. actually, i was lukin for some xp sharing like this prior to my GD/PI. and now it was my turn, and i did. thank u for all ur complements.
i wld like to mention one more i'view tip, that is, TAPMI doesn't offer any specialisations as such. one of my frens (cs engg'r, 1.5 yrs xp MNC) was asked abt his chosen area of specialisation, he said systems. and the director's i'view panel member shot back, "TAPMI is not the place for u"!!. tone was light, but not so the contents, isn't it ? atleast none of us wanna hear such a thing frm our i'view board. as per my info, this was the harshest words came out frm Director's panel so far (apart frm these words, his entire process was perfectly ok). another friend (mech engg'r, 2 yrs xp, now entrep'r) had the same qn in panel i'view, he floated over like "i'm keeping my options open, only after first yr.. bla bla bla". but in btn, he accidently pronounced 'Mktng'. and there was a flurry of qns like 'what's mktng, what's the difference btn mktng and sales, how do u mkt this and that ..'. based on this xp, someone on next day dint mention any spec, so the qn poised was "if u rn't sure abt ur spec in mba, r u sure u wanna've an mba ?" (it was a stress i'view). so pals, b imaginative.
during our open forum session, one candidate asked the faculty member 'which is the strong hold of TAPMI'(among fin, mktng, hr and systems), the answer was 'management'. as per the revised curriculum of TAPMI u r choosing the papers for the second yr. as it is clarified during my panel board i'view, u can 've any of the options like three papers of fin and one paper of mktg, one hr ... like that. they call it 'flexible specialisation'. dunno gud or bad,but this cld b another reason for "y TAPMI".
carry some reading materials or something like that to keep urself engaged for a possible waiting span of 3.5 hrs at max. in my case, i reported for my panel i'view at 02:00 pm, and was called for the i'view at 05:30 pm - the last one to leave the auditorium !!. moreover, there was some qns based on today's headlines for some candidates. again, lemme tell u, if u cldn't get the papers, tell'm so. dont dont dont ever b stressed ... okey.
something abt dress code, u'll c all kinda combi over here. for boyz, most popular one is formal trousers, full sleeved shirts, shoes, and tie. some ppl do wear blazers, two of them in my grp. and there was a candidate on the first day who wore a stone wash jeans and a funk kinda half sleeved shirt !!. another handsome guy on first day wore black shirt and dark grey trousers !! both of them completed the entire process 😉 and for galz, churidar all the way. that too all variety, like full sleeved, with collars, very small sleeves (almost sleeveless). gals also wear typical euro style formal dress like 'wrap around skirts'/pants, shirts/tshirts, coats and shoes.
abt the folder u gotta carry, actually its needless !!. what all u gotta carry is the xerox copies, and once they r submitted ur hands cld b let free. but then u dont feel like going for an i'view, isn't it ? hence everybody is carrying around a folder with/without records !! leather, leaved, plastic ... all kinda folders r in place. i carried my original records (needless) and some xtra/co curricular certi's in my leather folder (sorry dad, i'm not gonna give it back :p) i know one boy and one gal, who went in for the i'views empty handed. this gal, she simply tuk one pen and one pencil in her hand and walked in !!. (man, i've a very strong feeling that gals r more gutsy these days 😉 )
that's it for now frens, anything specific, feel free to ask.
NB: call me Rick, that's my name :D
regds,
Rick.
I got a call from TAPMI and i've got a ton of questions which i'll split up into different posts so if anyone wants to answer to a specific one the whole thing need not be quoted.
rohit,
may b ur intentions r fine, but what u've just committed is a serious offence, i'ld say. in the new WYSIWYG editor, things r pretty easy and leave alone the 'Quote' option. what all u've to do is to select the portion u wanna b 'Quoted' and then click on the icon in the tools. or u may manually add in the vB code, ok.
now abt ur queries:
1. Do they have only case-studies for GDs in TAPMI?
so far yes.
2. I'm doing Electrical & Electronics Engg. I've heard they are drilling low CAT scorers. Do u know if they ask acads. questions in this field? If so which area do they stress on- Electrical or electronics or both?
i'm a low cat scorer if u consider 89.04%ile as low. but they dint grill me. and the qns depends on ur panel. if that includes an eee or ece engg'r, u expect some kinda ..., ok.
3. What would be the size of the audience for the extempore? How much weightage is given to it?
all ur GD grp members, panel members, one assistant, this is the crowd. somewhat 15+3+1 shd b its size. equal weightage is said to b given for all the rounds. so, if u miss slightly in one, u can definitely make it up in the other. if u r afraid of the crowd and not confi abt ur extempore skills, just b relaxed, u can definitely make it up in the sections like essays and interviews. moreover, hey, even the best speakers on this planet earth 'll b tensed just before their public speech. once u deliver ur first word, things r pretty easy. take it frm me. so dont worry mate, if u've this adequate language to post this much posts and to score enuf to get a call frm TAPMI, u do've the language within u. its all abt 'Speaking' it. it'll b ok. Bernard Shaw and Martin Luther King r yet to report for TAPMI GD/PI. only rohitsharmas and Rick's reported so far.
4. Which are the hotels one should avoid and which are the good ones?
so far, no 'shd avoid' hotels reported. and the gud ones, check out the previous posts, plenty of them r mentioned.
5. Anyone else gotta report on 26th? PM me or drop me a mail please. my route is Vizag>Chennai>Mangalore>Udipi. Maybe we can meet up in between!
one of my frens is reporting on 26'th. he's an IIM call. also he's placed with HPCL. hence the decision is yet to b taken.
regds,
Rick.
Hey all,
I suppose the GD/PI is towards the end at Tapmi, anyways I will share my exp there so it helps somebody.
1. Seems like they are calling in a lot of people. Last heard they are calling 1300+ for 130 seats that is 10: 1 ratio. Tough
2. The day's people r divided into panels of 19-20 each and each will have their on seperate set of GD, ext, PI and DI. The same panel of 3 from Tapmi will preside over ur GD, Extempore and PI.
3. If ur sl. no. is within 10 in ur panel count urself lucky. ur more likely to finish the whole process (incl DI) by 4.30 that day. (I was no.1 in my panel. finished at 2 pm went to Malpe beach, also saved some money by checkin out early )
4. The PI for me was cool. One on panel was a phsyco analyst (no Qs asked), other for stressing u (he tried without much success) and another for Acads (got pretty fine)
5. Be ready for 2 sure Qs. Why MBA? Why Tapmi? U have to answer this at the PI, DI and Essay. (My answer evolved at each stage:huh: )
6. The DI was all but screwing. The director even asked me to do evening MBA instead of full time. All four guys keep throwing Qs from all corners. This is my only scary area after the essays  . Thankfully it lasted only for 5 mins.
7. Also there was no phsycometric test for us. Why?
8. The extempore and GD topics are being repeated. Run through the thread for the topics. Mine was of a taxi case mentioned earlier by someone. Thanks. . Same with extempore. Since mine was first, the rest was boring
One thing is for sure. They r calling too many people and the whole process is cut short. Fist int did not last more than 10 mins for anyone. DI for 3-5 mins. But kudos to the people who arranged it. All flows smoothly. Except for some from far away places who crib about the distance.
Went to the boy's hostel. One thing - only one comp per floor and that too dial up connex. How's it at other institutes?
Rgds

If they call me I will be in. Only call u see:grab:
prezamith Sayshai man ur post is the best and most informative. i would like a help. if u can post the acads questions ion mech it would be veeeery great plllllzzzz
mech engg qns reported so far:
carnot's cycle,
diesel cycle,
diesel engine,
petrol engine
diff btn 4s and 2s engines,
laplace transforms (!!!),
differentiation,
partial differentiation,
combustion,
knocking,
thermodynamics (basics and laws),
efficiency (methods, nature of graphs, units),
statistics (mean, median and mode)
distributions (eqn, graphs, nature, applicable situations).
but man, if my memory is correct, v covered somewhat 52-55 papers in mech engg during our btech. so, the qns r simply endless. u better brush up the basics of mech engg, and b thorough abt one topic u r in particular interested. and ensure that u know how to articulate "I dont know, Sir" without remorse and with respect.
atb,
Rick.
where does this 'nagpur' comes into play ?? what's there in nagpur ??
electrical engine used in trains r electrical engines , where's the combustion there ?? power is supplied thru cables running over the rails, its transferred to the engines thru a contact (think of the handle kinda thing over the electrical engines), and that's used to run the engine, that's it !! 've u ever seen some smoke over an electric locomotive :-o
if u realized that they r trying to grill u, u cld've ensured that u r not carried away. but here ..., lets c...... lets hope for the best...
Rick.
now this is what happens when u don`t post in a proper manner.my fault,i accept.sorry for it..now the answers....
well i am doing my engineering from nagpur,so u see he wanted to know why of all the places i went to nagpur to do engineering.
well there are 2 kinds of engines we have internal combustion engines and external combustion engines...
like coal engine is an external combustion engine(the source of power is outside, unlike the petrol engines we use in bikes or cars),our bikes have internal combustion engines...the ignition occurs inside the engine(unlike a coal engine),so that way elecrical engine too,i believe, has the source of power outside the engine so that way it shud be external combustion engine, that is what the interviewer meant by asking what type of engine is elecrical engine(he specifically asked me what kind of engine, external or internal).
well the fact is i had to make them see that i am focussed and under those circumstances i had to say something which made them see it....at that point of time i could think of this reply only....i believe they took me for a ride, but then my reply did silence them all(director who was incessantly laughing was quiet too after listening to this reply of mine) ,i think now my answer wud either see me thru or see me out...anyways QUE SERA SERA.
atb guys.

hi destination....first of all an engine or to be specific a heat engine is a device where heat is converted to mechanical work...so there is nothing called an electric engine.....imho wen they asked u wat type of engine is it..i think they were testing ur alertness and composure....its the same question like"in which direction does the smoke fly in an electric train" ....it doesnt have an engine...it is a motor..and a motor and an engine are not the one and the same...u cant use one term in place of another........i am just trying to clarify the point...i am not offending u..so no hard feelings m8..

Thanks for the extensive info and especially for ur WYR(read)IWYG kinda xp report. That was great!
