Hey destinationsuccess
Iam not an engineer but i believe the latest electric engines on ir use 3 phase ac traction motors. What's an external combustion engine?
Robin
hey guys i had my interviews on the 15and 16.I was in ricks panel.Let me tell u that be calm in the gd(do not shout) and try to do ur best in the extempore.do try and speak for the whole of 3 mins.u do get time to jot the points so make good use of that time.
the panel interview was stress for some and quite calm and friendly for others like me.Just know some basics of ur domain.esp economics if from commerce background.questions likw wht is indias gdp, elasticity of demand, balance of payment etc.and i had some questions on banking regarding NPAs,the madhavpura mercantile bank fall, etc.
i think some ppl got stressed if the panel pointed out some mistake in wht they did at the gd or extempore or in some interview question.just acknowledge ur mistake if it was done and that will be that.
Hey destinationsuccess

Robin
well external combustion engine is one in whivh the source of power generatin is outside, like coal, like we feed coal from outside, that is what an extrnal combustion engine is.
one more question that i forgot to write was can electricity be produced from the engine of a bike.was clueless to this.can anyone help?????
anyways for the directors interview,i believe if i start a poll asking how long did the interview last and was the director laughing or not,i believe the answer wud be 99% for the former and yes,he ws for the latter.
well so it happened that when i ws made to wait for th interview i got bit nervous and went to loo(man!!!!wat was that)when i came out, realized i was being eagerly waited.anyways
went inside was asked
1. why did u go to nagpur only(wat the heck sir!!,why r u in tapmi interviewing me,lack of opportunites or someting else)replied that i was not sure in 12th,but now i am,at this director started to laugh ,was bit puzzled, anyways
2.according to u mba is a dustbin,as u said u wanted to do mba after u realized that mechanical engg. was not that good for u,replied all the stuff.
3. were u happy doing engineering.said no.at this director started to laugh even more and said something ,cud not hear it,asked him to repeat it,he then controlled himself and said let it be.
4.they were then tring to grilll me,by asking all sorts of idiotic questions, like what is focus, how were u focussed and do u think u were focessed,to this i replied yes i was ,coz ppl of my age(i am presently in 8th sem, engg.)take up a job, prpare for gre or failing to do anything just start preparing for mba,i knew it from 3 years I have to do MBA ,THIS YEAR ITSLF,FROM UR INSTIYTUION OR FROM SOME OTHER AND I KNOW THAT NO ONE CAN STOP ME FROM DOING IT,WHETHER I GET SELECTED HERE OR NOT.(felt good after this, dunno why)
5. was then asked me where did i have calls from, replied to it.was then asked to go.
now i am feeling that may be the answer i gave(i have to do mba.......)wud play a pivotal role in my selection.guys give me ur opinion.......
anyways atb to all
for ppl who want to saty at a cheap and very good place go to udupi and say take me to krishna temple, when u reach there go to vijaydhwaja cjoultry(only 2-3 minutes walking distance).i stayed there it is like just another hotel, but does not have any tv,is also close to a restaurant woodland.pretty near to the udupi bus stand,so no problems catching a bus or autorickshaw...the amount they charge is 125 rupees(yes,125,no,i am not drunk!!)per day.very good place, since it is run by temple ppl so it is very cheap, but very good and clean too....
atb guys....
hi destination......
i think u did a good job while explaning ur objective and all that but the only thing that i want to speak about is ur body language and ur eye contact also plays a vital role in answering personal question like such , hope u were comfortable while answering those questions, secondly just relax dear TAPMI prefer candidates who are honest and down to earth and i think u showed both of the characteristics while answering the questions. all the best for ur results. i have mine on 25th.
PS: jacob dost saath ja to nahi rahe ho kya saath aa bhi nahi rahe ho( i hope that u will be coming back to delhi by mangla on 26th).

Hey Rick
adi poli stuff.By the way how far is Royal International from Tapmi?
Thanx for the additional info buddy
Robin
not very far, walkin it wud take fifteen minutes, auto ,dunno about the amount he charges but sure that it wud hardly take five minutes(even less)....
atb..
Hey thanx a ton Destination.
iam caught in a dillema b/wn Royal and ashlesh.Ashlesh I've heard is barely 1km away from Tapmi.
Hey guys and gals leaving Manipal on 26th night,How many of u wud like to go on a sightseeing trip?

hey, transportation is not a big issue there Robin. tension adikkananenkil allathe thanne entellam karyangal vere kidakkunnu, aavashyam illatha oru kaaryathe patti ingane bejarakalle mashe. during day time u've plenty of auto's and buses. so u save some bucks (go for a cheaper hotel) and pay it in a pub 😉 (FYI: for Foster's its only Rs. 45 )
1. why did u go to nagpur only(wat the heck sir!!,why r u in tapmi interviewing me,lack of opportunites or someting else)replied that i was not sure in 12th,but now i am,at this director started to laugh ,was bit puzzled, anyways
where does this 'nagpur' comes into play ?? what's there in nagpur ??
what kind of engine is electrical engine used intrains
was not sure for this but still confidently replied that it is an external combustion engine..not sure though(anyone please help on this....)
electrical engine used in trains r electrical engines , where's the combustion there ?? power is supplied thru cables running over the rails, its transferred to the engines thru a contact (think of the handle kinda thing over the electrical engines), and that's used to run the engine, that's it !! 've u ever seen some smoke over an electric locomotive :-o
they were then tring to grilll me,by asking all sorts of idiotic questions, like what is focus, how were u focussed and do u think u were focessed,to this i replied yes i was ,coz ppl of my age(i am presently in 8th sem, engg.)take up a job, prpare for gre or failing to do anything just start preparing for mba,i knew it from 3 years I have to do MBA ,THIS YEAR ITSLF,FROM UR INSTIYTUION OR FROM SOME OTHER AND I KNOW THAT NO ONE CAN STOP ME FROM DOING IT,WHETHER I GET SELECTED HERE OR NOT.(felt good after this, dunno why)
if u realized that they r trying to grill u, u cld've ensured that u r not carried away. but here ..., lets c...... lets hope for the best...
Rick.

i satyed at royal..ok place...also a km away from tapmi..actually the whole to9wn is on 1 km stretch so if ya put up anywhere in manipal..its nt prob....abt auto fares min is 10 bucks but since demand is up...they may ask ya fr 12.
ciao
hey,
had my gd/pi yest..luckily completed both of them yest itslef...my luck was gud as i was the last guy to be interviewed by direcotrs panel fr the day...
case study:
as most have alerady told abt their case studies..lemee nt tak to much time abt that....usually the case studies are very easy to analyse.as in my case their was a problem of an appraisal sytem missing and also demotivation...group surprisingly was very cordial...not a fish market at all..even after 17 candidates....had to write a summary at the end in 10 mins.
extempore:
my topics were kashmir should be given freedom and mercu killings shud be allowed..dont remember the third one...chos the kashmir topic....now junta hear this..the panel is also listening fr content u have...cos i was quizzed a lil abt it in the interview.... a few other topics were:
1.educastion liberalized
2.urban and rural india
3.earth-my planet
4.two's company,three's crowd
5.management education is a hype(the guy who spoke abt this actually said that mgmt.is a hype and a total waste of time!!1
dont rememebr anymore rt now..if do will post later
interview:
now this was one cool affair....the questions they asked me were:-
1.what have you heard about the panle frome the people who have given their interviews till now?
2.why are public school students considered snobbish and arrogant?
3.what is your fav subj and why nt pursue that line itslef(am an engg)
4.how is mba going to help you in life?
5.what calls have u got....---i told the i have 4 other calls namely ubs,imt-global,kj som and nmims.....
6.they asked me fr my prefs......i told them since a real low score in nmims am sure it will be mighty impossible to convert it...si ranked them as tapmi, ubs,kj som and imt-ngpur.
7.thye asked me which mba wud i prefer...one from a metro or place like maipal...answrd that wud prefer metro one....
8.told me i was contradicting my slef as i had ranked tapmi first....told them...that taking a case of imt ghaziabad or mdi the industry interaction was nt possible to a major extent in manipal...they then told me they appreicaited my honesty cos it seems some people b4 me had sold them that tapmi was better frrom a metro city mba....
9.last q was y tapmi..and i rattled off the answer..
on the whole a nice experience
essay:
topic was ...based on your experiences what were ur career options(list them) and how would an mba education help ya in achieving ur goals in life.
20 mins...350 words
directors interview..
was the last one so had to wait a lot.....now there were three people there including the director...now he was very chirpy and friendly....the person next to him i think prof vasudev(maybe mistaken) was the one out to put ya inder pressure ...wheraeas the third one dint say a thing.
they tried to put me down on my acads and tried to make me feel regretful abt the lack of gud marks...guys dont fall fr it as they just checking how ya take pressure..so go in smiling and all guns blazing...also the director has ur forms and all the marks sheets and they have those small yellow post it notes with them detailing ur beahiviour from gd till panel ineterview..so dont bluff...one guy was caught doing it...
hope was able to help ya guys...best of luck to everyone.
ciao
ps:this is fr someone on my panel......i am not a "serial killer" hope ya realised that..so do pm me.
Hey Qwerty
Real lucky to have no acad questions.Seems like the panel's a bit tired:) of "I dont Know"s.
Anyway all the best
Robin
hey no reco letters reqd they r very cool they r lookin to select the rite candidates man...pbly u need to take xerox copies of all ur final memos
hello everyone,
i had my gd/pi on 18th but cudnt post bcoz iwas in the middle of a forest
so jus came back home here is my experience:
i was in panel 4 ..there were 6 on that day..that means abt 120 ppl!!!!
neways all the details abt the process have already been given so i'll jus stick to my experience:
GD: the case was an H.R. oriented case abt an employee resistant to change..but with gud exp and good rapport with customers..he now wanted a new post which was being created and question was wether we wud choose him...hmmm the gd was a fish market louder than the one in Mangalore
ne ways i didnt get too many chaances to speak..but i have heard that ppl tending to be too aggressive in gds are getting screwed in PI..but this is not concrete info....
extempore:i had 3 topics:
1) music has no lang barriers
2) gardening as a hobby
3)hindi films now a days have unconventional themes...
i chose the 3rd topic....was okay in my attempt...
pi: the guys in our panel were totally warm and very cool....
most of the questions were based on my acads and i was upto it this time arnd :)
i answered convincingly...then they asked abt hobies and personality(based on the SOP in Appln form)..and everything went welll there was an alumnus in the panel and he was totally cool...they asked if i had ne questions...i did ask a couple of questions to senior....then it was over.....
Final interview: just a three min affair....my city, background, my calls my education, and other exams scores...and it was over....and before that they had given an essay which was again on career goals it was easy nothing new....
so that was my experience.....i am keepin my fingers crossed
ciao
hey junta
can anyone tell me that .....till what waiting no. we can finally hope to convert in tapmi?????

I'd like to meet the man who invented xxx and see what he's working on now 😉 .
hi guys n gals,
i had my gd/pi on the 14th, returned to kolkata on the 18th only to find that my computer had virtually turned into a tin box. sorry for the late reply.....
rick has mentioned almopst everything that i had to say. i'll just add that none of the several rounds of selection u hav are elimination rounds. they'll take u on the basis of ur performance in all the rounds taken together. one tip: try to tlk to the seniors there, they may giv u some useful info especially after u get to know which panel u're in. now, i'll get to my case study:
it was about a medium-scale company named praful. mumbai branch was running fine, chennai branch had productivity and budget problems. suresh rao, presently working in the mumbai branch, was promoted and sent to chennai to straighten things out. he took an authoritative approach, set stiff targets for each department and took no excuses. some departments failed to meet the deadlines and suresh made them pay (fired them probably, i don't remember). some senior guys resigned but within a few months productivity shot up and costs came down. his success was so massive that praful'e md ketan parekh called him back to the headquarters in pune while a highly qualified mba, mr. anil joshi was given charge of the chennai plant (he was brought in from outside). anil took a people-friendly approach but productivity once again fell below standard after 3 months.
case questions:
1> do u agree with suresh rao's way of functioning?
2> what should be done now? do u recommend sending suresh back to the chennai plant?
we were told that we could discuss about other relevant issues as well apart from the given questions.
with 18 people trying to prove to the panelists that they could've very well joined heavy metal bands if they wished, the gd was way too noisy and chaotic. i found them lacking in content. the most intersting part was when a guy (no.1) stood up, took a few srides towrds the center and said, "i've had enuff of this stuff. so everyone just shut up bcos i wanna hear that guy (no.1 speak!!!" well, not exactly in these words but u get the idea, right? and then no.18 spoke 4 some time and somebody else started speaking, and there came no.1 again to the rescue "let him complete, let him complete!!!". the funniest part was ---- no.1 himself didn't say a single word throughout the gd after that. this was 14th feb, panel 3. i thought i made a meaningful contribution because everytime i spoke i came up with something new and at least for a few seconds, everyone else turned quiet and listened. i think the panelists noticed that.
we were asked to write about the gd and not the case.
some of the extempore topics:
effect of cinema on youth
should mobile phones be banned in college campusses
how we dress is immaterial--- it's what's inside that matters
dream today, reality tommorrow
my future wife
should there be any limits on artistic expression
etc. etc.
my interview was anything but stressful. it seemed they were pretty pleased with me(good GD, 98.65 %le in CAT). started with how do u like manipal, what are the places u visited etc., went in to acads, then into behavioural aspects. u can maneuver them into ur strong areas. ended with what other calls i had.
director's interview: they'll try to put u in an awkward position by asking questions like "why are u wearing these shoes?" (the guy was wearing shoes that didn't go with his suit), "u hav weak vision, how will u persue ur studies?" (guy with thick glasses), "what's the matter, didn't u enjoy engineering? why are ur grades so low?" (i'm the poor guy here)----things like that. they'll basically test ur body language, composure etc.
about manipal, make sure u visit END POINT ---- it's beautiful. cafe coffee day was our usual hangout. cinema hall is really cheap ---- 25 bucks. there's a night club as well.
those of u who were there with me on the 14th, miss u all.
hey junta
can anyone tell me that .....till what waiting no. we can finally hope to convert in tapmi?????
what the seniors told me was this: if they take in 150 students, they'll put up a list of around 200, 50 of these guys won't join tapmi bcos they hav calls frm better places. there's no explicitly mentioned waiting list. just one list.
one thing i forgot to mention, u may also be asked questions from the gd or the extempore in the interview. the panel which takes ur interview is the same panel which took the gd and extempore. the guy who spoke about "my future wife" obviously had to explain a lot about his wife during the faculty interview as well.
also, in our group at least, although some guys didn't speak much during the gd, nobody was asked to summarize at the end. and the writeup was about the gd and not ur analysis of the case. so beware, do speak when u still hav the chance.
Hi friends, I had my gd/pi on 17&18th.
GD was a simple hr case study and went on for about 15 minutes.
U will have ample time to make an impact on the proceedings.
So just chill!!!
Meaningful enteries with proper content- and u should sail thru the gd.
Extempore topic- Savings are important in life ; ATM- my experience
fluency and articulation is what seems to be tested here.
But aparently, the panel was not that impressed by people who were
not speaking for full 3 min.
Panel interview - the length of the interview depends on your id no. in the panel.
I was lucky to get commerce background guys in the interview panel so wasn't tested in real sense.
Directors interview- simple and casual meet. The director comes across as a cool man, so don't worry.
had my interview on 19 th.
was okayish case study about HR issues.
i.e falling productivity in the company.
GD was a complete fish market. the gd had to be interupted twice.
finally each member was asked to spk for 1 min.
18 people in gd........bound to be fish msrket.
panel interview was cool they tried stressing me. but ended up having discussion about my
work exp.
directors interview is cool and general questions are asked to every body...
but sure q are following atleast for my batch.
family background?? y u dint u do medicine... if u dad was a doc and so on.
they basicaaly seek clarification where the first panel din't went deep into/
manipal okayish town.
udupi.....awwww.. cheap.
food is gud.
u cantake home kela haluwa. found near bus stop.
great hotel nr bus stop of udupi called hotel janardan.
excellent room service.
275 rs for a room for 2 without tv.
and 325 with tv.
bye
