I am moving into TCS with a designation named "Consultant" and Career Band C4. Can anyone let me know what is the kind of role (like Project Manager, Delivery Manager, Delivery Head) does a person with C4 band handles.

Please help with your answers if this is a very senior position within TCS.



Congrats on ur selection in TCS...Consultant is quite high a designation in TCS...It totally depends upon how you are manage with your superiors(I m sure you must have seen all these things in your 13 years career)..I know associates with C4 band working as a team member and some with C4 band heading a project 450 odd associates, so it all depends the projects and locations u get...You can get a chance to work as BDM(Business Development Manager),BRM(Business Relationship Manager),RDM(Relationship Development Manager) too...Moreover if you are an MBA with good institute you will get good opportunity to move ahead in TCS ...Project Manager in TCS can be anyone with C3A or C3B band which signifies Assitant Consultant and Associate Consultant respectivey...You can also act as a Delivery Manager and Delivery Head but it will take some time as u will find many spoons for 1 plate...

I have 4.5 yrs of experience with one of india's top IT firm.I need to know the package(approx) and the role that can be offered to me @ TCS considering the fact that i'm going into testing domain(with 2yrs of testing exp.).

Any inputs on the same especially from TCSers would be highly appreciated.

I think there is quite a bit of "tcs-hatred" at least in the past two pages of this thread. Well I have been working in TCS for the past 4 yrs.. I will try to put things without much bias to either side

Salary-- Salary in TCS is competent (may be a tad better) with the same in Infy, wipro etc. TCS offers more onsite opportunity than others I think (this observation is completely based on my friends who joined in TCS and other organizations, while all TCSers have been abroad for periods ranging from 6 months to 3 yrs, most of the others were not that fortunate)

Work Culture -- This is completely a project/team dependent factor, and you do not have much control over it. The fact is this is the same in almost all organizations. There is a good possibility that you might end up with worst possible colleagues, there is a good possibility that you might end up with best colleagues. Pressure also is not uniform

Learning & Growth-- If you are looking to grow as an IT technician, like a solution expert or an architect, tcs may not be the exact place for you. TCS is prodominently a maintenance (or production support) shop.
On the other hand, in terms of leadership skills there are ample growth and learning opportunities in TCS. If you are really smart, you could be lead in less than an year

All being said I would say TCS is no worse or better than other organizations in the same league. The rest is your call 😁

I have around 13.3 yrs exp and i am currently the delivery head in infy. I have several delivery managers reporting into me. is this matching ?
BTW do u have full cabins alloted to consultants or its only half cabins?

Why to depend on ur posting and colleagues when you yourself can make a difference.

The ray of opportunities in a company is inversely proportional to the count of employees. The company in discussion is an apt example.

Domain, platform ,technology, location purely depends on the requirements when you are about to get released..

Its a pure case of luck I would say.

Variable pay is a very smart way devised by the corporates to pay you less than what they had offered. I suppose your variable pay would be around 5.5k which you wont get during your training period. Once the training is complete, you would get around 5k.

Once in a while when the company declares good results, they give out bonuses which is nothing but the sum total of the variable pay (5.5k - 5k * number of months) which they have been deducting from your salary.

@ priyanka...Hey is it possible to break the bond w/o paying the 50K during the training period.'m 4m a NON-IT background wit zero knowledge n coding stuff...'m expecting a gud CAT score but then too by the time gd/pi process s over,results declared it ll be around 2 months.So is it ok to join tcs fr 2 months n den quit t job. also can we abscond jus lik dat???

I am in TCS, My friends are in INFY and few are in WIPRO,CTS,IBM and HCL. If u want to look for work culture, HCL and IBM are leaders. but still when it comes to job security HCL and IBM sucks big time.Salary wise all are on same foot, With TCS paying most. IBM kills u and then pays you. bt nt very much. as priyanka rightly said TCS chennai suck big time for north indian and we are habitul of calling it Tamil consultancy service. But in other areas. its better. and ofcourse u need luck. Go for MBA if possible from top 20 college, else TCS is really better.

Being biassed, we make our life more difficult. so priyanka don be offended, u made ur life bit more difficult. it would have been easier. and guys u can leave without paying the bond amount, but exp wont be counted then and if u are going for higher studies, you can quit compay with exp and by negotiating with HR and paying far less than designated bond amount.

yar.. dekh... i am from biotech.. and had no programming skill at all before joining.. and i didnt touch programming till i joined tcs.. so u can understand.. i had been worse than u... in tcs... just do time pass... chilll... just crossover the minimum criterion of training.. which u can do easily by just being awake.. prepare for MBA if u don get admission this year and aim for top 20 college.... i used to play counter strike on lan in my training second phase.. in first phase i had no time to eat or sleep though... its just matter of getting comfortable... be cool.. and chill... but never forget ur main aim... thats mba.. hope i had answered ur question...
