TCS Recruitment : Jobs, Salary, Interview Questions

Correct me if I am wrong ... 5200 is what they are going to cut in total in jan,feb and mar...i.e. 5200/3 per month..?

Or is it 5200 per month?

Also, what do you see the chances of a six day working regime being enforced.. if Dollar continues to depriciate?

No cut for January..and it will be 5200/2=2600 each in feb n march.

I dont think TCS will ever introduce a 6 day working regime...dts out of the question now...maybe it will lay off employees to realize cost like IBM has started doing of late but 6 days a week seems highly impossible...dts my opinion.

Thanks Vaibhav,

I am supposed to join in the role of a Business Analyst in the Capital Markets Practice. Please can you share any knowledge about this team.

1) What do they work on ?Major Clients?
2) Typical role of a BA in TCS and associated work pressure?
3) General work pressure and work timings of TCS. How often you are required to work on weekends?

Hello Vaibhav I too am joining TCS as a BA by Feb end at the ITPL office. I am told that i would be working on the Deutsche Bank, Singapore project. Furthermore if you can throw some light on the role i can expect on this, would be pretty useful.RegardsSri

Hi Guys.. any views on the recent TCS lay off... is it a media hype up of a regular practice or is TCS and other companies heading towards major crisis?

Your Views??

I am told by some of my friends working with TCS that this is a general practice with TCS. TCS conducts appraisals twice a year. People who were rated 2 or below in the first appraisal are put into extra training and special coaching is given. Even after this if they again do not get an improved rating, they are asked to search leave the company. RegardsSri

We got this in an internal mail from our Global HR:-

Recent Media Reports: Message from Head, Global HR

Dear TCSers,

This is with reference to recent reports in the media about TCS asking 500 employees to resign based on poor performance. I thought it important to put these reports in the proper context, in order to address any doubts or confusion that may have arisen as a result of these eye-ball grabbing headlines in the media.

As you can see around you, its business as usual with customers continuing to visit us and projects being executed. Our robust business model continues to drive growth across markets and verticals and we remain confident of increasing our market share.

In the first 9 months of 2007-08, TCS has hired a gross of over 28,000 professionals and is well on its way to meet its annual recruitment target. We have also made over 22,000 campus offers for trainees to join us next year.

In a transparent manner, we have also communicated to all our stakeholders that we are cautiously optimistic about our business prospects in these challenging times and this stand is being reiterated by our customers and other corporations.

With reference to the disengagement of around 500 employees that represents less than 0.5% of our total employee base, it is important to re-iterate that TCS has always propagated a performance-based culture across the organisation which you are all aware of.

In this context, it is important for us all to note that this is not an isolated initiative undertaken this year and neither have these disengagements happened in a particular week or month. Appraising all employees and disengaging with those who do not meet the mark on a consistent basis is an ongoing process that occurs every year and reinforces our performance-driven culture. The recommendations and appraisals are made from the ground up in the normal course of business.

It is also important to reiterate that the process of disengagement with these employees is not an indication of their redundancy nor a sign of any business impact on the companys operations.

As the industry leader, we continue to drive this sector and I look forward to your continued support and involvement. If you have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the senior members of the HR team at your location who will be able to clarify any doubts you may have.

Wish you all the best,

Regards,

Ajoy Mukherjee

Hi,

Hi,

1). BA is a senior post and since I'm still a SE (1.5 yrs exp) I dont have much idea on the kind of work they do but yeah it should be inclined on the managerial side.

2). Well that depends solely on the kind of project you get. If you have to manage a huge account, the work pressure ought to be high:- not in terms of the man-hours you will be asked to put but the number of associates reporting to you would be high so that will mean more responsibility.

3). General timing in Bangalore is 8 AM - 5 PM (Monday to Friday) but again it all depends on the kind of project (coding, support, maintenance, testing) you are in. But given that you will be a BA, in all likelihood you wont be coming on weekends coz u will have relatively lower rank guys to handle the issues on weekends :)

Disclaimer:- The above answers are as per my understanding of the post you have been offered. I had heard about the post of ITA (IT Analyst) but never knew that there's something called a BA (Business Analyst). I assume that they are one and the same. There's another senior post here, viz. BRM (Business Relations Manager) in which you are mostly located on the client's site.

will the freshers who've been placed (yet to join... 2k8 pass outs..like me) be affected in anyway...do i need to fear for my job safety..(assuming a scenario where the market hits rock bottom...say..a la 2002..(touch wood...god forbid) )...then will our offers be cancelled under any circumstances???..very frank opinions expected....heartfelt thanks in advance...

Nopes buddy.

FYKI:- All those who have been sacked have been working in TCS for at least a year (and they were sacked coz they didn't get more than 1 rating on a scale of 5 for two consecutive quarters). N believe me :- U got to be real real bad at things to get 1/5 in two consecutive quarters

N given that U are a student of MIT Manipal, I can safely bet that u arn't that bad to fare poorly at work. Jokes apart, U (and for that matter any fresher) can safely join TCS.

PS:- I'm your senior. MIT Manipal, 2006 pass-out

BA is a project role. ASE and ITA are designations within the company. A Business Analyst is one who is kind of a functional expert in the project. He neednt be a technical wizard but must necessarily have a complete knowledge of the functionality of the field in which his project is being applied.

I still believe the situation is not too bad for the freshers to be worried. However, I would like to differ from you in some of the points. Are you know it for sure that only people with rating 1 have been sacked? Very very few people get 1 in TCS and I know people who has been sacked with rating 2. In fact, I would have thought most of the people getting sacked have 2 and not necessarily in two consecutive years all the time. And trust me you don't have to be that bad for getting 2 in one year. You may get it if you take release from a project, have an altercation with your PL before rating, or for some reason your PL just does not like your face (I've seen these things to happen in TCS).

And what is this consecutive quarters? TCS has quarterly rating only for the trainees and no trainee has been sacked as mush as I'm aware of.

However, all these said one should not be too worried if he has the right attitude towards work. Even everyone getting 2 has not been sacked probably because even TCS management knows that the rating is not always a clear indication about how one works. But, if one has poor track records like more than one poor rating or complain from project regarding attitude, bhavior they are more prone to get victimised.

Well this is what was published in day before yesterday's ET and even I am not aware of anyone getting 1 in TCS. Moreover I know quite a few (at least two) people who have got 2 rating continuously for 2 yrs (yep not quarterly, not half-yearly but final annual rating--H1+H2) who have not even been warned, let alone be sacked. Whatever the case maybe, one definitely need to have a problematic attitude to be sacked. N I don't think a PL can give a 2 rating looking at your face or if he dislikes your attributes which may not be problematic at all. N if he does, then one is a fool if he/she accepts the rating w/o questioning his integrity in front of the HR/other senior people. For the ones who don't question the PL's decision to give him/her a 2 rating... GOD save them. They deserve to be sacked if they don't have a defying attitude. But once again I make an assumption here that you ought to work (if not extra then at least what is required of you) to stand arms-and-shoulders against your PL's decision to give you a 2 rating.

Sorry if I'm digressing from the topic. But these are my personal views. I agree that this may not apply to most of the junta but one shouldn't fret one's PL/GL or whatsoever the dude (devil) in question be. Work what is asked of you and you will stay in this company till eternity. At the end of the day it's still a sarkari company

Ciao!

Hello Vaibhav Can you please confirm if ITA is a lead position? If so what could be the team size to handle?RegardsSri

Normally one becomes ITA in TCS after having four years of experience. People may take more or less depending on appraisal. It is a designation not a project role. One ITA may become a team leader or even remain a team member depending on which project he is working on. Please note here remaining team member does not necessarily mean he does not work well. It depends on so many things.

However, generally said normally ITAs work in technical position and they are given critical work or/and responsibility to groom juniors. My personal opinion, ITAs often play the most crucial role in a project. But again it is technical. Normally they are not much involved in getting new business or so.
