@michael88 Arey draw a rectangle PQRS. Now any arrangement you get with A on PQ has an equivalent to putting A on the opposite side RS (rotate karke same arrangement aa jaayega). Similarly any arrangement that you obtain by putting A on side QR has an equivalent when A is on opposite side PS. So effectively, the total unique positions you can get are only along PQ and QR (length and breadth, say).
In a square, each side is the same. So even PQ and QR become equivalent and we consider only the positions on one side. You really have to make a diagram and see this, aise mentally thoda mushkil hai.
