Media and cultural studies is a very niche programme, and is also the broadest of all programmes. They students study the ways in which the media can help in understanding sensitive issues and be instrumental in understanding cultural differences.
Candidates have to be very conversant with current affairs and the role of media in it. Along with that, they have to be prepared to answer very specific cultural questions. For example: Do they understand how European culture is different from American? How Indian culture itself is very diversified? They have to have some base, in understanding these cultures. If they have some exposure on how the media has captured these issues, like certain films, documentaries it would be an added advantage. If they have deep understanding of these films, how they are made? How does media actually capture the social issues? Then it would be absolutely a topping on the cake. The seats for this course are very few and the panelists are highly aware and sensitive towards all of these, because they come from that background.
Students who are aspiring for media and cultural studies need to have insights in the above mentioned points.

You have got a call that means your score is good.. Anyways mine is 60.5.. and then there are people with 72 also.. cut of was around 54 i guess...
we now need to concentrate on Pi dats the tough part.

Hii friends, even i have got a call for Media and Cultural. No clue about how to get through the interview. Heard like it is a very quiet department and all. 
Placements will be good right? (i know, i havent converted the call, still, felt like asking you all ):)
Any course from TISS would have great industry weightage. Thats pretty much give though i dont know much about campus placements. Anyways lets start our interview preparations. Suggest some novels to read,movies to watch etc.

I am not sure about that. Anyways i'll try. She joined Rajagiri due to some reasons.
Placements are arranged but they are mostly for media organisations - news or working for development sector.
We should not worry about that for now.
This i got to know from a senior. I am trying to get more info about PI from him.
59 score is there any chance. What was the final cut off last year.. I tried contacting tiss seniors media studies ones and its weird but they don't reply 😞 😞
IThis is what i got from a senior about the PI process
First of all, read a lot and develop a critical perspective.
By critical perspective I mean - lets say you are told to discuss the Lokpal Bill - you should be able to articulate your thoughts properly with an opinion. Also you should be able to go beyond the news and focus on other socio-economic issues that it involves and has ramifications in.
Secondly, follow the happenings in politics and media very carefully.
Since you have no prior experience in this field, chances are you will be asked how this course is going to aid your background in commerce.
Think about that as well.

Your salary will depend on what you do.
For journalism its pittance initially - 2 lakhs p.a.
For documentary - no one knows until you join the trade.
For production - it depends on how well you can sell yourself
For organisations/NGOs - you can start with 2.5 - 3 lakhs p.a.
