Hey Manesh,
You should have got an email from the admin team with an link to the facebook page for the 2014 batch.
However I saw in this forum that there was atleast one other person who did not get the email. So maybe they are sending them out in batches.

Hmm, I just paid my deposit this weekend, maybe that's why.
I went through the admission emails from a few weeks ago and there wasn't anything in there.
Either way, I thought you PG's created another group for yourselves to connect.
Hi Guys!
Congratulations to all!!..
I believe most of us are busy with the bank loan and visa process.
I just received an email regarding the login for www.lms.ubc.ca ( BBL blackboard learn ) which is pretty good. Just found out that the MBA prep program has a fees of 1200 CAD. I am not sure how many of you are looking to enroll for it.
Also, regarding the accomodation, I wanted to know if anybody's planned anything for it. There are some details given on BBL for both on - campus and off-campus housing. I am currently looking for options available and will try and speak to alumni's to get some more detail.
Keep you guys posted!!.
Thanks,
Mihir

Good luck to all .

Hi,
I also applied for Masters in Management in OR to Sauder for 2012 entry. I have not received anything from the Admissions office. When i called them, all i got to know was that they will take some more time to review the file and come to the final conclusion. I applied on 8th February. I had got a score of 670/5/5 in GMAT , 117 in TOEFL, 2 years of Work ex, Average in Undergraduation. Could anyone who got an admit suggest my chances of getting through?

Hmm thats surprising, dont get me wrong, Im glad that you were able to deferr your admission. The reason I say this is because the admin team clearly stated as well as its mentioned in the website, that they are not allowing deferred admissions. Maybe they changed their policy or are making exceptions. In any case, all the best and we'll see you next year

Hello Harshjot, You might want to try PMing Pagal member "shorsh", he posted on this forum a little while back that he got through. Im not very familiar with this program. Also I would suggest to email/vs Phone the admin team for updates. They are very good at replying to emails.

Hi Kalpana, you do not need an I -20 for canadian schools.
regarding the Visa process, the best thing you can do is - just start.
Look up the website, fill out the forms and mail it in. I have heard that your process is sped up if you complete the medical before you send in the Visa application. Also if you are planning to take a loan, make sure you do that before you apply for the Visa.
Also there are several agencies that will prepare your student visa forms for you, but of course for a fee.

Hi Soumyak,
Thanks for opting to help us. I have a few questions:
1) Which is the ideal place to live Off-campus on a sharing basis and what would be the monthly expenditure. I am looking at staying in a place where it will not take more than 30 min (Maximum) to travel from the residence to UBC Campus.
2) When should we start looking for housing off campus and how do we need to pay the rent. I am planning to arrive in Vancouver on Aug 1st (If Education Loan and Visa goes well).
3) Is it worthwhile to pay $1200 for MBA Prep program (which is from Aug 6th to 23rd). Or can we start with normal classes on Aug 26th and cope up with the rigor of the classes. What do you suggest? Are we at a disadvantage if we do not attend MBA Prep classes?
4) My goal after MBA is to get in to Strategy Consulting. Is it true that we need to travel 4 days a week and work 70hrs a week on an average if we choose consulting? Is it also true that we can enter in to any other industry after having two to three years of exp in consulting? (I mean are there many exit opportunities for those who have 2 to 3 yrs exp in consulting?)
5) Which is the industry that offers better work-life balance than consulting? (I would definitely not opt for finance. Brand Management/Marketing would be my second option as I have exp in business development)
Thanks,
RK
Here are my answers to your queries:
1. Places which are within a 30-45 minute ride from campus are Dunbar, Kitsilano, Main & Fraser Streets, Kingsway. I used to pay a rent of 850 CAD for a two bedroom basement suite, shared by two of us. Rents are around the 1000-1200 CAD range nowadays for individual houses and can be shared. Condominiums (like the apartments in India) are generally more expensive.
2. Looking for full time housing is a bit of a hassle from here. It is better if you can manage for some temporary accommodation after you reach Vancouver. Then, you can actually visit locations and find a place to stay. If you are planning to decide your roommates here itself, then you might end up meeting for the first time in Vancouver. In that case, it is better to look at the place together and finalise something. Alternatively, you can contact owners on Craigslist or other rental websites.
3. The prep classes are useful if you do not have any previous experience in the subject. Most of us did the accounting prep, which helps the Indian IT folks get into the groove. Not sure which ones are being offered this year, so cannot comment individually on the courses.
4. The strategy consuting industry is a very intensive but rewarding one. Travel and work hours are dependent on the firm and the project, but the 4 days and 70 hour thing is quite commonplace. It is not very difficult to switch once you get exerience of working at one of the big firms like McKinsey , Deloitte or BCG, because the brand carries a lot of value.
5. Work-life balance is a very personal attribute and not dependant on the industry. It is upto you to ensure a comfortable mix of the two irrespective of where you work.
