Hi. I am interested in the MBA at UIUC. Is TOEFL required for Indians who have completed their Bachelors degree in English?

Hello All,

Greetings from UIUC College of Business - Illinois MBA!

Am a first year student at the Illinois MBA program and this is great to form a single platform for people applying or interested in Illinois MBA and foster fruitful discussions. Hope your applications are coming along well.More importantly Mark Lockwood, Illinois MBA Director, Admissions would be in India from Nov 18- 25. Try and reach out to him as he is specifically traveling to address the Indian Talent.

Feel free to post any queries you might have regarding applications. Good Luck and God Speed !

Best, DJ

Praveen,

Apologies for the delay in response! This week is hectic like crazy with our midterms. Anyways, to ur queries :

1.There is no GA in MBA program at UIUC. Having said that, there is ample scope of scholarship that too a hefty one from the huge alumni grants that the university receives(FYI- UIUC has the largest living alumni network in the US). The scholarship amount depends on ur CGPA, GMAT score, TOEFL and quality of work experience that u bring to the class.

2.Compared to other private schools, since UIUC is public, the fees is less, approximating around $30k per year without scholarship. Urbana-Champaign is a relatively less expensive place primarily because it's a campus town.( I reckon UIUC is ranked # 3 in ROI)

3.Career services is good and there is an overhauling thats taking place to woo in more recruiters. So that's a good news for u(and of course for me )!

4. Illinois MBA is not famous for SCM, but there are companies that come especially for SCM.

Hope this helps. I would soon post the itinerary for Mark Lockwood's travel to India!

Cheers,

DJ

Hi All,

Hope ur applications are coming along well! I know this is a difficult waiting phase that can be excruciating. But for those who have got interview invites, congratulations! You must have received interview details from the Illinois MBAโ€ฆ.Mark would be in New Delhi for interviews on Nov. 19, 20. Interviews in Mumbai will be on Nov. 21, 22 and finally some interviews on Nov. 23 in New Delhi, before the adcom team flies back. You can cite my name (DJ) for reference to Mark.

Having said that, this is not the end of interview rounds. The team is in the midst of application review and subsequently candidates might be invited for interviews over Skype. I wish u all good luck with interviews. Do let me know if u need any other info!

Best,DJ

I was interviewed today by Mark Lockwood in Mumbai. The interview lasted 40-45mins, but it was more of a conversation not a question answer session.

The only questions he asked me directly were,
1. Tell me about your professional experience
2. What is your leadership style?
3. Other schools that I am applying to

If I have to list down the topics we talked about, the list is below
1. Strengths
2. What will I bring to the Illinois community
3. How do I stand out
4. Activities I do during free time

Later he talked about the culture at Illinois, what to expect, what is expected, recruitment scenario and few more that I am unable to recall at moment.I hope my experience will be helpful to others!

P.S: If anyone gets an opportunity to interview with Mark, consider urself lucky; he makes you feel comfortable and is very helpful and down to earth.
