GMAT : 720
Work Experience : Almost 4 years (2 Years- Application Development, 2 Years- Business Development/ Communication Management)
Industry: IT (Fortune 200)
Education: IT
I want to emphasize that the support you get from Adcoms is unreal. I really appreciated the unparalleled assistance I got from Jodi, Lydia, and Liz .The Full Time MBA website is one of the most comprehensive program site from a student point of view. I found the dedicated Finance Academy as one of many great features of Tippie MBA program.
rahul800 - I can answer the first 2 queries from my experience
1. Scholarships - Decided on Whole Profile including GMAT, GPA, Quality of Work Experience, and Value addition to class. I know for the fact that if you have a good profile, financing will not be a factor for any student who wants to pursue Tippie MBA !
2. Biggest strength of Tippie i.e. Finance or Consulting: In my view, the strength of Tippie MBA program is Finance and Marketing. However, I am certain that the program is so well designed that no matter what you choose, you will be provided the necessary tools and skill to succeed in that field.
ImaTippieMBA - Thanks for starting the thread. Hoping to connect with you Next Fall ! 😃
Hi ,
I am willing to apply toTippe MBA.
But I haven't taken TOEFL.
The medium of instruction during my graduation was English & my GMAT score is 700 (V35,Q92)
The verbal %le is 74.
I understand Tippe grants waivers to them who score at least 80%le in verbal.
But can I still ask for a TOEFL waiver?
Are there any chances of it getting waived?
Thanks!

If the medium of instruction at your college was English and if you have score more than 80% in your verbal section on your GMAT , TOEFL will be waived off.
I had also applied for the TOEFL waiver.

prachich1987 : Please try and contact Jodi, Lydia or Liz if you want to confirm whether your TOEFL can be mailed. Below is the link
Contact MBA Admissions - Full-Time MBA
PS: You have ample time in your hand to give TOEFL and still be eligible for first round.
I received a mail for a one on one skype chat from Tippie to judge my candidacy in a better way. After i scheduled the chat, i got a mail from tippie informing that i have been granted app fee waiver but somehow the one on one chat never happened.
Any one else in the same boat?
I wish rotman had a fee waiver option 😞

Hi Rahul,
Sorry for replying so late. I got caught up with school. Still trying to keep up with the pace :)... My personal opinion, based on your profile, is that you have a very good chance of getting a scholarship.
Having said that, the criteria for financial aid is similar to that of admission: GMAT score, work experience (quality and quantity), undergraduate GPA, leadership potential, letters of recommendation, essays, and responses from the admissions interview. Also, the applicant pool that you are in decides the merit of your application. So if you are above average as compared to others who have applied, you stand a good chance of getting financial aid.
For exact number I suggest that yo email Jodi Schafer / Lydia Fine. They will give you exact amount of scholarship available for international students and also the proportion of international students who get it.
Both Finance and Consulting are strengths of Tippie. Although, the finance program is very popular, consulting is an equally strong program.
First semester has been great. Its the best learning experience I have had so far. I like the personal attention this program provides. The support system is great.
Does this help?

Hi Prachi,
The TOEFL is required for international students whose native language is something other than English. There are two exceptions to this rule which exempt students from taking the TOEFL:
1) If the student graduated from a university located in a country where English is the primary language.
2) If the student is from a country where English is not the primary language, but graduated from a university where all classes were taught in English and they score 80% or higher on the verbal section of the GMAT.
Accordingly, your chances of getting a TOEFL waiver is very less. But I would strongly encourage you to email Jodi Schafer / Lydia Fine for the same as it is better to get this confirmed officially.
Hope this helps.

Hi Gurinder,
First lets look at the statistics - As per the Indian candidates of the incoming class of 2011, the average GMAT score was 705 with a middle 80% of 690-720 .
I do not want to sound pessimistic or discourage you, but in order to be seriously considered for the program, it is necessary to have a score near the average.
Personally, I think your profile does stand out from the standard "IT Indian" application pool. Also, your application will be compared to the remaining applicants which is quite unpredictable.
But my advice would be to re-take the GMAT and strengthen your application from all perspectives.
Hope this helps.

Great! Thank you for the applying to my college. Hope you get an invitation for an interview.
The MBA program has Thanksgiving break now (till 27th November). I am not sure how long it will take the admissions committee to get back to you.
As I'm not in Iowa City, I'll get in touch with the admissions team by email and try to secure a response as soon as possible. This can take time and there is a good chance that I can get back to you on this only after 28th November.
Thanks!
