Hi,
I am a first year grad student at the University of Wisconsin.
If you have any questions relating to your application or the school of business of business, post here and I will try to get the answers for those.
hey.. i m planning to apply for the class of 2015...n i have some standard questions
Hi,
The Operation and technology management has the one of the most flexible curriculum at wisconsin. Looking at the companies coming up to hire the OTM specialties the prospects seems very good.
Regarding your Scholarship question for OTM, there are 90% chances that you will get either a scholarship or an assistant-ship in both the year. Moreover compared to any other Universities Wisconsin has one of the lowest tuition bills.
Hello pgomi,
Hi Ashish,
Looking at our school strength Supply chain management and Operation & technology Management both have great prospects.
I would suggest you to talk to both the centers to check what is your best fit. The centers are really helpful to decide on your fit.
If you want I can forward your information to the respective department heads. PM with your mail-id and i will give you the contact details.
PS: You can ask this question to the center directors directly and they are more then willing to help you.
Hi,
The essays @ Wisconsin Mba application is according to the concentrations available at the bschool.
Does this restrict a student restricted to the curriculum of the opted concentrations.
For example if I applied for operations and technology management can't I switch to SCM upon joining Wisc business school
Thanks,
Suchit
Hi Suchit,
Yes, there is a restriction on switching. If you are applying for a particular concentration you can not switch to other concentration. One of the major reason of having this partition is that, the school wants to make sure that you get the applied learning necessary for your career growth. Each Center has its own defined curriculum and applied learning that's fits best to the job role.
You should be clear on what you want to do with your future. that is one of the main criteria of getting into this business school. If you are having trouble in deciding between SCM or OTM, I would suggest you look at the curriculum very carefully and talk to both the centers before applying. This will help you to decide which career track you want for yourself.
hey thanks a ton..how to connect to the centers??
I there a way I get insights into the job profile that the people of particular concentrations land to??

Hi,
What would be the GMAT score for Wisconsin and, what are the things that are a must on your profile to guarantee you an admission to this institute?
Regards,
Hdwnk3r
Hey Guys,
I will try to get the persons from respective centers to answer your questions on monday..
It will be great if you can PM me your mail-ids with a brief overview of your profile. (just which center are you interested in.)
@Hoodwink3r said:Hi,What would be the GMAT score for Wisconsin and, what are the things that are a must on your profile to guarantee you an admission to this institute?Regards, Hdwnk3r
There are two essential things for wisconsin:
1) your professional work experience.
2) your clarity of goal.
Hi Pgomi
"Hello,
I am interested in Strategy Consulting with focus on finance.
I am not sure as to which specialization to opt coz I could not find a specialization on Strategy.
I am zeroing on Corporate Finance Specialization.
I am a CFA Level 3 Candidate.
Kindly suggest.""""
My reply:
"""As per my experience till now with the school, Strategy is the core of every concentration. When you think about Business strategy, it can either relate to finance or operations. There are specific electives also to get more deeper knowledge on strategic consulting. More over the applied learning hones your strategic thinking. the whole curriculum is based on applied learning. even the classroom discussion are fully based on case studies.""
@ratinarace said:Hi Pgomifirst of all thanks for reaching out to the future aspirants. I was just wondering if I can get some insight about the school from a fellow indian and I saw this thread Below is my profile.Bachelor of Textile Work Ex - 1 year in Operations and Project Commissioning - 5 years in B2B Marketing and Business Development A hardcore textile professional with enough experience to write a synopsis of entire textile/apparel Industry in India.Gmat - second attempt Within next 15 days, confident enough to get a score above 700.Though!! I would love to make into consulting, but as a second career choice I would like to continue my career in core marketing, switching Industry with below priorities, 1) Marketing/Brand Management in consumer product Industry2) Marketing/Brand Management in Retail and Apparel IndustryThe reason I am getting Inclined towards madisson is for two reasons1) Being less expensive, better ROI2) Good number of consumer product companies hiring from madisonHad Brand and Product mangement my sole reason for an MBA I surely would have gone for Madisson as first priority.i just want to know, how do I fit in Madison?? how is the international student community over there??what is the likelihood of a non american person getting into top notch consumer product company?last but not the least, it would be kind enough of you if you could please throw some light on the budget that one should consider, and likely hood of getting a scholarship or fellowship??your help will be appreciated
Your profile is promising.
Sure Wisconsin School of business has great ROI. Also the scholarship opportunities over here are really great. About 50% of students have full tution remission plus a monthly stipend. In all, Earn while you learn.
your questions:
"How do you fit in Madison"
Brand Management and Marketing are the core strength of our school, just because of the number of companies hiring. I know a lot of student from these centers have already got their internship offers.. that is with in just 2 months of the program.. this says about the popularity of the program among the recuriters.
Madison have a strong sense of community. I was surprised by the mid-western culture. It is a lot more family-community oriented, and helpful.
"how is the international student community over there??"
Specifically speaking about Business School, in the past there had been few international students. This is a kind of better situation because it helps you to get the job easily. This year the percentage has improved significantly. Over all Madison has a huge international community. There are more then 40,000 student in Wisconsin. Particularly in MS program there are around 100 indian student coming every year.
"what is the likelihood of a non american person getting into top notch consumer product company?"
Generally speaking it is tough to get a job in US now a days no matter if you are american student or international. Some companies says that they do not hire international student, but i had seen them tweaking their rules. The centers have great relations with these companies and that helps to get a job easily.
Regarding Scholarship, the situation over here is best then any other school.
Thanks!! a ton
@ratinarace said:Thanks!! a tonthis surely helps ...understood the job scenarios are gloomy in USA..It would be kind off helpful if I could know as where did the previous international students (Read Indians) join??I am skeptical about returning back straightaway to india and leveraging madisson's name to find a good job, If at all that could be done?? as i guess madisson is still a pretty unknown name in our homeland..
