Yes, PGDBM is AICTE recognized.
Placement process is common with ebiz and MMS courses. Generally placements have been good in the college. SO no worries on that count
International internships are available
Faculty can be found on the welingkar website. Read the brief profiles an decide. I never had problems.

The retail management course is new, the first batch will pass out in 2007.

The course has an inherent job guarantee as Welingkar started the course based on the requirement expressed by many Retails Chains like Pantaloons, Shoppers Stop and Lifestyles. These people have been recruiting from Welingkar every year, so you can safely go for it..

hi guys....
i had attended d gd/pi session on 14th in kolkata...
i wud enumerate my experiences.....

first there ws a presentation session conducted by one of there ex-students [dat student claimed to hav been working wid L&T;,now he works for d welingkar network,later he wud again go 2 some company....]...bak to d presentation....it was abt welingkar....gives u d following details.....
institute
director[and his achievements]
trust[s.p. mandali' trust]
programs
special stress on retail management program[d one in collaboration wid pantaloons]...so a lot of queries asked on dis thread wud be answered
....

later d gd took place...
in kolkata there were 3 gd rooms....so dat may mean that there were 3 gd panels ....
in our panel...there were 3 moderators....
our topic was
"changes in the indian middle class"
it started lik a fish market....later it was fine and went on smoothly....

.......
den there was the interview...
there were 12 interviews rooms....in some d panel consisted of only one man....in mine there were two...
i was asked...
why mba?
my family background?
why e-biz?...coz i had given dat option too....
why a.p.j. kalam as my idol?
shud stong academic background be a requisite?
dan there was a general talk abt ratan tata?
dey asked all d questions in the essay form....
it was quite a smooth enof interview...
it went on for arnd 15 mints..

we were [ i guess ] d last batch dat day...

den we had d psychometric test...there were 90 ques to be answered in 15 minutes....
all ques were statements....2 of dem in each .....n we had to choose d one of our liking....
.......
so heres how it goes....

Thanks for telling about your experience. Should help us. By the way, it would be great if someone who has work experience could describe his/her GD/PI experience.

They can be either. Even if they are paid, the exact details will be known when they actually make an offer. It varies based on the company and locations.

The first batch will pass out in 2007. So cannot comment on these things.

Anyway I have been out of the college for about a year now and not that updated.

Psychometric tests are SPONTANEOUS tests.nothing to take tension about.There may be around for eg. 150 q's which u have to answer in about 45mins.q's like...1.wats ur fav colour...2.Do u like to party a lot?.....3.Are u emotinally very sensitive?....etc.
just be true to urself.
THe examples i have given above are through my personal exp.The no. of q.s may differ.

Seniors can anyone tell me about World Class Management (WCM) program of Welingkar's with Japanese collabration....
With information I mean placements,ROI,current student placement,batch size and selection process etc....
They say JAPENESE language knowledge will b of gr8 help....Now I don't have it...
How much will it hit my selection chances...??
Considering I'm a very much mid class family ....what are job prospects...
So don't want to land in B/w all those rich ppl...
Hope anyone having knowledge will reply/pm as soon as possible

For PGPRM there is an assured placement in Pantaloon. You can join any other retailar.:wow:
(arrey bhai ye to baato ki aur companies bhi aayengi ki nahin ya saara batch pantaaloon ke liye kaam karegaa......and in case if they dont provide good profile aur gud pkg then wat.........)

the retail programme will take time to get AICTE affilation.
The 1st batch is hatching in 2007,how can u expect an AICTE affilation now.
Secondly it takes time for a new programme like RETAIL to get injected in the corporate world.As u can c the E-BIZ programme is coming up quiet well.
It is PANTALOON now,then after couple of years it'll be WESTLIFE then it'll be BIGBAZAAR!...WALMART is all set to hit India in 2008.

Its booming!!...Rome was not built in a day....have patience.:)

there r two programmes of retail management in welingkar
1) PGDBM in retail management(last date over- admissions through cat and cet scores)
2) PGPRM in retail management

now ur first programme will fetch u placements from different retail houses...bt ur second programme will get u a job only in pantaloons...course srtucture of both d programmes is same...
in PGDBM u will go for ur summers n all bt in PGPRM u will b given project training and dat too in pantaloons...

this is what i got to know when i personally called dem up a day before...
bt do keep in mind various things before applying...

1) no AICTE approval
2) a sure job at pantaloons bt dey havnt disclosed anything about the minimum pay package dat they would be offering
3) no test dates till yet- rnt they expecting a good response

The WCM program is offered in collaboration with Hamamatsu University of Japan. It has one year in India and one year at the Hamamatsu campus in Japan. So the final degree you get is from Hamamatsu.

Since you will be there for a year, learning Japanese is required. You will have formal Japanese classes during the one year at Welingkar.

Job prospects are good based on the experience on the first batch that passed out in 2005. The average batch size is around 15 people.

The course is relatively more expensive especially the year in Japan, in terms of living expenses. You should be able to recover all those expenses with a year or two years at the most.

Speak to the people handling the course at Welingkar, they will be able to guide you better.
