there r two programmes of retail management in welingkar 1) PGDBM in retail management(last date over- admissions through cat and cet scores) 2) PGPRM in retail management
now ur first programme will fetch u placements from different retail houses...bt ur second programme will get u a job only in pantaloons...course srtucture of both d programmes is same... in PGDBM u will go for ur summers n all bt in PGPRM u will b given project training and dat too in pantaloons...
this is what i got to know when i personally called dem up a day before... bt do keep in mind various things before applying...
1) no AICTE approval 2) a sure job at pantaloons bt dey havnt disclosed anything about the minimum pay package dat they would be offering 3) no test dates till yet- rnt they expecting a good response

Just to answer a few more queries that you could not answer. 1) The PGPRM course has been developed on the shorter 6-month course that Welingkar had in Retail Management. This course was extremely successful. 2) This course has a rolling admission process and hence the dates are commuicated only when the application forms are received. 3) AICTE recognition will take time but it is industry-recognized. Decide on which is more important to you 4) They will give you adequate time to plan your travel to the GD/PI locations. 5) The college itself has other retailers like Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle, etc. picking ups students. Obviouly similar opportunities will be extended to the PGPRM students 6) The course is done with inputs from Pantaloon and hence, they will expect at least some return. This explains the summers in Pantaloon only.
hi neha! The WCM program is offered in collaboration with Hamamatsu University of Japan. It has one year in India and one year at the Hamamatsu campus in Japan. So the final degree you get is from Hamamatsu.
Since you will be there for a year, learning Japanese is required. You will have formal Japanese classes during the one year at Welingkar.
Job prospects are good based on the experience on the first batch that passed out in 2005. The average batch size is around 15 people.
The course is relatively more expensive especially the year in Japan, in terms of living expenses. You should be able to recover all those expenses with a year or two years at the most.
Speak to the people handling the course at Welingkar, they will be able to guide you better.
Thank You for your reply Yaar but the problem is that lot of my teachers,relatives and industry have advised me to go 4 AICTE approved course so that i can further take use of it If I go for Civil Services My dad will not spend so much money for an Autonomous course.... One more problem I realise is that JAPAN is not that much favoured destination as Australia,U.K.,CANADA or Dubai...... Its quiet difficult to adjust there for Indians....that is feedback I got from Some1 who actually came back from Japan.... So sticking to the traditional courses ....Apne Indian Courses
@neha...i too suggest u 2 take up indian courses....the education standards in indian institutions r far better,competitive,exhaustive.....than others...unless u r goin to some big guns.....wat say people?
the retail programme will take time to get AICTE affilation. The 1st batch is hatching in 2007,how can u expect an AICTE affilation now. Secondly it takes time for a new programme like RETAIL to get injected in the corporate world.As u can c the E-BIZ programme is coming up quiet well. It is PANTALOON now,then after couple of years it'll be WESTLIFE then it'll be BIGBAZAAR!...WALMART is all set to hit India in 2008.

i think bigbazzar,foodbazaar is all from pentaloons only. by the way since i ,m working in related to real estate industry.pls consider followings. 1.pentaloons has big plans for setting up of approx 50 malls all over india.retail industry is estimated to be 210 BILLION DOLLARS by 2007.so retail is going to be there after big IT. 2.SECOND reliance has some bigger plans then pentaloons. so frends it s atime to take a risk. pls do ur research.

hi frds, Me rudraksh from pune, got call from welingkars.. 29th apr, Mumbai , 10.45 am.. anyone in same slot?? anyone from pune/goa for wel?? I have got 87 per in CAT & score of 110 in CET.. so i guess my welingkar score will be 55 , Can anyone throw some light on how they calculate the score for WE, PAR & also for Others?? i have 2 months exp. at a call center as a technical support enginneer.. but i din mention it in the form as i got job later.. so shall i mention that on my resume? will it help???
@rudraksha here is the info u asked for written test 100 marks past academic performance 10 marks work ex 20 marks extra curriculars 5 marks essay form 15 marks GD 50 marks PI 50 marks Psychometric test 50 marks

Hey u can not compare IMT nagpur with welingkar.....IMT's brand itself uplifts nagpur centre. but still jab tak hai wellingkar ki call tab tak wellingkar Zindabad !!!!
Secondly, ijust want 2 ask u ppl that the projected average salry of the inst.....i/e/ 5 lakhs....how reliable is that ?
I got 92.56 percentile in CAT n i am confused wheather to for CAT 06 or take up wellingkar (if converted)...as i m kicked out of 3-4 institutes....i mean either not selected or in waiting list at nirma,UBS,KJ,SIIB.
