Hi Guys -

I am a newbie to this forum and I am planning to do MBA in the year 2012. Below are some of the Universities from which I have got admit:

  1. Lancaster
  2. Durham
  3. Leeds
  4. Edinburgh
At this stage, I am more inclined to accept an offer from Lancaster considering its reputation and ranking. But apart from these, I am really interested in knowing about what exactly lies in store for us after graduating out of MBA in UK in terms of job prospects.

  1. With the recent changes in VISA rules, what are the chances in securing a job in UK or other parts of Europe?
  2. I am also eager to know, what plans do students have for securing a job in UK.
  3. Moreover, I am not sure how long students are allowed to stay in UK after completion of course?
  4. Most likely people head back to their home country and if this is so, how well are these University degrees acknowledged (particularly in India)?
  5. Is there any other option, which can be a beacon of hope after we graduate out of MBA?
Friends, please pool in your thoughts and ideas so that we can all benefit out of it.

Thanking in advance

Hi - that is fine, no problem.

To answer your questions:

  1. You need to appear for GMAT and IELTS (Academic) to apply for these.
  2. Usually they expect a minimum of 2+Yrs Work Experience after your UG

So, I would suggest you to consider the above points before you decide on pursuing MBA immediately after your UG.

Please let me know if you require any other information, I would be glad to assist

thank u so much.. 😃

Hi
I am VERY new to this forum and your post lists ALL tghe queries I had regarding MMBA in UK.
If you have got answers for your queries could you share them in this forum.
Also do you have any idea how good/average Univ of Straitclyfe,Edinburgh Napier and MMU (Manchester)are..

Sorry to bug you with a lot of queries but please post a reply when you have a bit of time..

Thanks a lot..

Hi - I haven't got all the answers yet. But looks like post MBA Job scenario in UK does not look promising as of now. As of now I have got admit in Lancaster and Leeds.

The ranking for UK MBA is:
Better ones in UK are as below. Placed in Tiers as within a Tier I would decide on the Strength of B School for my stream of choice. Again it gets limited by General MBA in UK. So within a Tier there isn't much difference.

Tier 1
LBS/ Said - Oxford/ Judge - Cambridge

Tier 2
Cranfield /Cass/ Imperial/ Manchester/ Warwick/ Lancaster /Durham

Tier 3
Strathclyde/ Edinburgh/ Birmingham/ Aston / Leeds

Doesn't matter much as quite a lot of people head home even from Tier 2. So, Tier 3 and below will most likely head back.

Hi

I have an admit from Oxford. Even then I am in a dilemma to join or not. Any more info regarding the career prospects after Tier 1 school puys (considering the current economic environment)?

If it is an admit from Oxford, you need not worry. You will easily land a job within a month. Congrats!!

wat abt univ of strathclyde..:)

Hi - lot of people have also recommended Strathclyde as a good B-School. But the issue, post MBA job market heavily depends on your current work experience and its demand. For example if a person is intending to change his career field after MBA, it is practically impossible. And if he is planning to go for a better position in his own field, post MBA that again depends on the Job Skill demand.

So there is no simple answer for your question 😃 . If you have good work exp. then definitely an
Strathclyde MBA would help in securing a job in UK.

You know, I am in fact planning to get an International License before going to UK , so that in the worst case scenario, we can try our luck as CAB drivers till we get a good Job.

Tier 2 and 3 Univ students are heading home after their studies as of now..so i dont think strathclyde would be a good idea..i had to edit it from my list (:

Umm yes very sad situation in UK. Ok did any of you guys explore Canada as an alternative. I heard that we get a 1 year Work permit by default after our study period.

I am having a work experience of more than 6 years in IT and want to do a MBA. Please let me know whether MBA from Strathclyde or Bradford or Lancaster would be better than the PGDM (Exec) 1 year full time course from IMT ghaziabad if I want to work in India as a Business Development Manager in a top IT firm.

Not too sure about that, buddy.

Irrespective of whether is LBS or Oxbridge or Cranfield, nobody can take things for granted.

The primary responsibility of job hunting has to lie with the candidate. The strength of the brands will influence how many doors open up. But once they do, it's back to the candidate to prove to a potential recruiter that the extra expense/effort of applying of a work-permit for an international candidate will be worth it for the company.

I graduated from a top UK school when the visa rules were easier. But the struggle to bag good jobs was and still is going to be a challenge.

I have a admit from Strathclyde , Leeds, in UK . In France from Emlyon and EDHEC. Would it be better to go to France as visa rules allow you 1 year to find job post MBA.

I totally agree with you....I know people passed out from LBS & Oxbridge in 2011 / 2012 heading back to look for a job.... These are indeed top B-Schools, but in EU, situation is really bad, so it seems it's not a function of "brand", anymore.... And if someone coming out of "branded" B-School post paying USD 50K, expectations are on the higher side, which possibly can't be met in EU, in the current scenario...

I applied to Oxbridge & LBS last year with waitlist converts, I had to re-evaluate my decision & finally, had to drop the plans...

So, all the Best to those who are taking the plunge....

Not too sure about that, buddy.

Guys,

I got MBA offers from following Universities for 2012 session:

1. Lancaster (UK)- with 3000GBP schol
2. Smurfit UCD (Ireland)- with 10k Euro Schol
3. Univ of Edinburgh Business School

I am doubtful about UK due to new visa implementation. Ireland also provides one year post study work visa and employment seems relatively easier.

Kindly let me know your valuable suggestions to decide it. Last date to deposit o confirm the place is approaching very fast for me.

Thanks!
