When I was preparing for CAT, I had taken all the test series frm CL,PT to IMS n TIME
what I suggest is go 4 either TIME or IMS.
Also if you have a frnd then ,one of u shd go 4 TIME n the other 4 IMS.
The strategy that I followed was I did my basics by the end of july
n after that only papers frm PT,CL,IMS,TIME
it helps u to get all the kinds of papers

2.costs 3250-includes 20 MOCKs,8 MOCKs for other exams like SNAP,FMS etc..and 5 previous CAT papers etc .etc....

If you are aiming only for the IIM's then the 1950/- should suffice.
As such the level of difficulty for the Take home tests are not up to the mark.
And even the omet's for are pretty less if you consider it from the test perspetive.
You will roughly get 2 Omet's per Test.
So as far as i am concerned its not worth putting the extra moolahs.

If you r for IIM or other institute like MDI Nitie then 1950 package is good. The other mock exams package loose it importance when you take exams like Mock MAT etc. Lats year I didn't give 3 other mock test. For exams like SNAP, FMS and IIFT collect some last year paper and prepare...

20mocks are more than enough.Also u can get last years paper easily.
So option 1 looks better .

Don't go the IMS test series. It's not worth it. TIME test series is far better. Last year I had taken both and I tell you... IMS stinks!!!
All they do is they just play around with the marking scheme in every test. No emphasis on different types of questions whatsoever. Some of the papers will look as if they are playing with you. It is sometimes of no meaning to go home and retry the unsolved problems because u know such ridiculous question will never come in CAT.
Well these are personal opinions, maybe they'll do better this time. Discuss with ur friends b4 u make a decision.

I had done my reaserach around 2 years back, so the status may have changed...........
But, at that time........... Career Launcher was one of the best in terms of quality of papers, TIME followed and lasty IMS..............
However, in terms of quantity of people apppearing which is also necessary to know where u stand (in terms of percentile).......... it was the reverse order..............
I am not going to choose any......... will let u make the choice..............
But, honestly, if u are good and study hard........... the test series wont matter...........

I think,he is right in some sense coz if somebody is willing to give other exams seriously as well,then the 3250/- :new_shocked: option indeed makes sense..Moreover,the gap after CAT is long enough to seriously try for others as well..

Whatever coaching institute you have joined please list down as many centres as you know for that coaching institute and mention the complete details. This would be of great help to me.

Time ka AIMCATs does appear tough..but most closely resembles the CAT pattern for the last two yrs....nd this time their package is quite attractive 20 AIMCATs for just!!! 1950/- only. (pls re-confirm it).

Quite well said... but coaching centers do have their own marketing strategies. There is subtle difference between a probable question for CAT(or at least a good practice) and a long shot. Some questions are intended to show students that the question setters are God and CAT is impossible. Coaching centers call some question papers "Simshocks"... which are just marketing gimmicks to strike the fear of CAT among students. Maths Olympiad questions, complicated puzzles, extremely tough prose... all are used. They say they are preparing us for D-Day.. aka CAT. But have a thought at it...
We say CAT is soooo tough and soooo unpredictable.... that anything under the sun can come in CAT. But still it's an exam... never ever our worst fears(the questions we fear should never come) come true... Forget Maths Olympiad questions, complicated puzzles, extremely tough prose... CAT is solvable!!!
The panic is all created by coaching centers who make CAT look like an extremely sinister sabre toothed tiger... so that they can find more and more preys.

I dont think one should make sweeping generalisations like :
1. IMS mocks r way too experimentative-------> well not always, just that some mocks might b too different from the norm, but even in theyr b4 last the TIME mocks had TOO TOUGH qs. which was a turn off for most students, also in the final CAT 06 the paper turned out to have a very easy DI & Quant.
2. TIME mocks resemble that of actual CAT---> well, first of all ,nobody knows how the actual CAT would pan to be. AFAIK even IIM profs don't know how the CAT in a yr would be bcoz the profs are asked to submit qs. & after deciding(analysing) each qs, spl its suitability only some get through the selection scrutiny(more or less ,1 out of 3 gets thru).
So, don't get unduly worried abt mocks of some particular insti resembling CAT. Even if it eventually does it is purely by coincidence. Remember, coaching instis r even able to predict keys of eng. properly. There is always a difference in keys, and hence scores.
Hence, my two penny advice would be that, PLz join the insti where the largest no. of ppl r enrolling , bcoz in such a case u would have a truly pan-India competition and it would resemble CAT not in content or form, BUT in terms of competition(read: percentiles !!).
