Why Finance?

so, u say investment management at an I Bank is good. ?????
let me put it in this way, actually i am sorry my bad i am interested in joining only in Investment banks under investment management- portfolio. . . .. .
is investment management at an I bank is better than Investment banking(mergers ans Acqt) ???

noo . . .actually i am working on my job prospect . . . might be after 2 months i would start searching for job .. . now i am just working on to select my options . . .

see now the perspective changes and it totally depends on what you like. but 1st of all getting into a good I bank and getting into these kinds of profiles are pretty tough. will depend on ur qualifications and work experience and ur knowledge level a lot.

Both are very important and different aspects of financial industry , Portfolio management /wealth management/ fund management is more on pooling funds from mass segment and investing them ( lets say mutual funds) to providing customized solutions to HNWIs or UH-HWIs

Where as Investment Banking is related not only to merger acquisition but more in-terms of long terms investment of a company be it merger or acquistion or managing sources of funds for the corporate clients . Both are equally challenging and have great prospects of growth

yeah..wealth management jobs are also challenging although they require more of a marketing skills as compared to finance. But again it is a front office job. To know more about this field, you may read "Corporate Attyachar"(Don't go by the name ) by Abhay Nagarajan, an MFC,Delhi passout. It is a comical take on that profession and of course take it with a pinch of salt.

what if I work in investment banking for 5 to 6 years and then shift to investment management ??? >>>..
i believe value of experience gained in Investment banking is high .. is my presumption true ???and is it worth doing investment banking for sometime and then shift to investment management . . .. ??

I think its great to be flexible enough to change your career in future , it will however depend on whether you like IB two three years from now 😃

Hey seniors, I am not sure if this is the right thread for this. I have received a call from SPJIMR for finance.

I want to know, what all things about finance I must know for my interview? I am a commerce graduate, so i have certain knowledge about Accountancy and little bit of Financial Management and Financial Investment.

What all you think i must know for the interview. Is there any material/link/material or any advice that you can give me how to go about it.

Thank you
Regards,
Vikram Batra 😁

I guess knowledge of the macroeconomic scenario will help you , specially the debt crisis and rising inflation are popular topics

Right now for the interview process i guess projecting your passion for finance , reasons for making a career in finance will be the key for them

Finance has a big scope..you can get into auditing, shares related, or other related track..it depends upon indiviuals in which they like..for eg if you like be investment banker or financial consultant..etc..

Hi everyone,

I have following queries regarding Portfolio Mgmt. & Investment Mgmt.

1) What is the current scenario for both of the fields, in India?
2) How can one get in this field?
3) How much value does CFA (USA) add if one is in this field?
4) I reckon there is no sales involved in this one, right? What are the roles & responsibilities of such a professional?
5) What can be said about future scopes for both?

I'd be grateful if someone can share his/her knowledge on this. Thanks, in advance 😃

I have got calls from new iims
I have experience in Credit risk mangaement.
But i love Marketing.I am planning to opt for finance as i do not have anything else except my experience to support my choice.
Can i change it later during my PG.

I am sure you can choose to do anything during your stint of two years in PG except incase you are given a specific field for PG right from day 1 , which i dont think is the case with new IIMs 😃

Hi, I know i am asking a silly question, but neverthelesss, Do investment bankers work in a team or its an individual job where you are paid according to the deals you cut in?

Hi,

You'll get better & perfect answer by posting this question on the thread "Investment Banking in India and Abroad". The puy who started the thread has an internship experience with a BB IB and is currently pursuing MBA. Refer the entire thread and you'll get to know lot of fundas 😃

Well, from what I've read on that thread is I-Bankers usually don't work in team.

Hello puyss.. I am new to this thread and want to say that this is a really good initiative taken...kudos!

I want to ask ( it may sound stupid) that Consultancy or Management consultancy etc is this a part of finance? (as posted in one of the posts on this thread earlier). I am not at all sure about the answer so anyone knowing please reply here....please...I really need an answer???

Management Consultancy is a very wide field can encompass almost everything as professionals of various fields can work as consultants which does not exclude finance professionals also

I guess that answers ur question!!!
