also are there any other certifications like these ????
Profile change is the easiest if you're in the top 3 bschools.
What you can do to probably look attractive to a recruiter is to give the CFA Level 1 and try and complete the level 2 before you go in for your summers, if you land up a good summer placement in any of the finance profiles then you're all set to land up with a good profile during final placements. What percentage or how many number of people on average has CFA L1, L2, L3 certification in IIMs during summers.

CFA , of late, has become a very common degree .. You can expect a good number of students in your batch having CFA L1 atleast .. L2 & L3 will be less :)
But i dont think this stat help you in any way .. There are lot of other things which are looked in summer interns .. Not jus CFA ..
Sir... it is very well known that in 2nd stage of MBA entrance profile plays an importrant role
Yes,Profile is a main factor to bag a good summer internship .
Can u suggest ways to build up our profile !!! (related to Finance and otherwise always)
This depends completely on your interest . I will say what i did . I am an Engineer working in IT field . During my cat prep days, what i did was read through articles related to finance and checked how comfortable i am in knowing the terminologies . Nothing went into my head but i was interested to know abt it . So saw a bit of basic economics/finance tutorials in youtube. Slowly i was able to grasp the concept .
I heard about NCFM and CFA,thanks to PG . Enrolled few NCFM certification .. did a decent number of certifications . Then wanted to do CFA . Was very apprehensive since it was costly.
Before enrolling , i went through the curriculum and checked if i am competent enough to write . It was okish for me and so enrolled for it .CFA L1 is a basic for all financial concepts . so helped in knowing many things.
Our very own mod Wayne aka fin Guru recommended FLIP . so did a few basic modules in FLIP .
While reading CFA , I developed an interest in Risk management which made me think of FRM/PRM . I went for PRM .
So I will always recommend you to go by your interest and build your profile based on it . Research a lot and learn what you love
And please also mention what are the aspects that are looked into during summers!!!
I am yet to become a bschool student so I have very little idea abt it 😃
From the info i gathered from my friends ,
1) Educational background - Grades and where you study matter a lot. 2) Extra curriculars 3) Work ex ( Abhimukh saar - please correct me if am wrong
I have 45 months of work-ex in the banking sector. But not every role in the bank is into finance by nature. I am into liabilities (retail banking) which more into kind of sales & marketing. I am joining finance at IMT Ghaziabad to leverage the exp. I have. Whether my exp. in the banking sector which is not exactly in finance will help me there getting into finance role or I should look for upgradation to Marketing.

With your experience i guess options such as private banking or wealth management profiles will be more suitable .. But these are financial sales ..
For core finance , you would mostly be getting financial analyst or research analyst profiles ..
Some of the best profiles are offered by the PSU banks and Axis Bank but their pay packet is a little lower , so if you want treasuries or corporate banking , forex etc , PS Banks will provide the best opportunity

Check the below post , it covers everything in detail..
I am not pursuing MBA so have little knowledge about it. Still I have a little idea from the Joka Alumni. This is applicable to only Day 0 and may be Day 0.5 placements as Its either a Day 0 or just normal routine placement. I will start with 3rd one first.
3) Unfortunately yes, most certainly. There can be cut offs. So one's resume may not even reach these recruiters, so no question of interviews and getting a chance to sit for them. :(
2) CFA level 2 (If level 3 is over, it will be the best) can help immensely to get the shortlist from at least some recruiters. It will help overcome the acads cut off at least for few recruiters. At least for this year, most of the cream finance roles were in the form of PPOs. It means, getting a summers in these recruiters is the most important thing. At final placements, the quality of profile may fall which was the case at least for the year gone by.(I am talking w.r.t Joka standard, which itself is too high)
1) Since many things are against your profile, you have to create a resume which the recruiter can't ignore. So if some luck prevails and the policy of a few recruiters is to go through all the resumes; your resume should come on the top. Resume doesn't become attractive just by mentioning "CFA/FRM" (A few people mention even NCFM ) Many resumes at Joka are going to be a replica of each others as all Jokars are already stalwarts, so everyone will be having something or other better than others. So creating a resume is going to be a very difficult task. Of course, if one gets the interview call, converting it is going to be much more difficult task as the shortlist is going to be cream of the cream. I hear that more than 100 guys there had cleared CFA Level 1 in the last batch. (The number can be more, am not sure of this)
P.S. Joka is one of the best management institute in the 'World', so personally if you ask me, getting an admit for it, is much more pleasurable than getting a Day 0 placement there Remaining day placements are better than almost all institutes in India. But everyone wants best of the best
P.P.S. All things posted here are gathered through Joka current batch as well as the last batch whose placements were just over.
friends plz help me....i am very confused... i am 23yrs 9 mnths old....I gave CAT11 and scored 98.99...i mentioned the following in my interview application forms(calls from LIK and new IIMs).... CA CS nd ICWA (2nd level for both cleared and final results awaited).... all india rank 15th in CA 1st level and 49th in ICWA 2nd level work ex of 15 mnths in a small CA firm(auditing related)

First of all congrats for ur results.
Now IMO if u get IIM-I u shud take it & side by side go for CFA/FRM which will add more dimensions to ur finance background.
Normally IIM-C is what people from fin backgrounds & ppl interested in fin target. But since u already have 2 qualifications which give u a decent background in finance.
I have never supported dropping out as u never know what future beholds & when u see it from a long term perspective its the talent that matters not whether u did ur degree from XYZ college. You can look at it in this way also that the opportunity cost of dropping out for one year is too high u may not get IIM-A/B/C also (they might come up with another new criteria to screw u up.....who knows!!!!)
Given ur profile dont waste ur time on NCFM/AMFI/FLIP.
Last but not the last never measure ur career in terms of salary drawn.

Do not focus on the institute - focus on yourself.
Follow a simple rule in life - If you are unsure about something... do not do it.
Now try to find out what you are more unsure about - finance or marketing. You will get an answer.

hey puys, I seek your guidance on a couple of issues... (these are not career related queries but just some finance related, thirst for knowledge questions I had :P).
Q1. How do NBFCs and Microfinance companies in India raise capital? Did some reading and I found that these guys cannot accept 'demand deposits'. Are demand deposits the same as regular deposits? If so, is equity their only option for raising capital?
Q2.For a corporate house, how are dividend payouts (not share repurchase) and interest payments taxed? Do corporates save tax on interest payments?
Q3. In India, do we have double taxation of dividends i.e. taxes on dividends both at the corporate level and at the individual level?
Nothing urgent, just curious to know the answers to these questions. Appreciate if you could answer them in your own sweet time :)
