I read your long post (very rare and usually boring), but i think i have a piece of advice for you.
Just to introduce myself, i am a hardcore finance person (i even flirt with my gf in terms of 'debit/credit'..just kidding but i really do). I am a Chartered Accountant by qualification, and pursuing CFA and was a MBA aspirant, not anymore. Coming back to you, i think we should tackle the issues one by one.
a.)Whether or not do you have any chances of getting into finance side of running the business?
Ans. Yes you do but you would need a finance qualification like MBA (fin)/CA for that.
And given the kind of profile that you have , ISB would be the most suited option.
You should really go for an Executive program, most preferably if you could get sponsorship for the same, from your employer and from the best of the college, abroad or here.
More preferably abroad, since they have a better perspective when it comes to shifting the vertical than our beloved India Inc.
But before any of this comes into play, are you very sure about your passion for finance?
You just saw a small trailer of the huge series of movies...and that too the best part of it may be.I would advise you to take some more time, think over it, try reading books about finance, talk to ppl in the finance. Try to know more about the finance functions.
Ask your self, do you like palying with numbers, how would you feel in given an excel in 36 col and 20000 rows with pure numbers and the only text that you see would be in the top row.
Are falling in love with finance or is it just lust/crush?
b.)Should you start your career down the ladder , all over again in finance?
Ans. NO.NO.NO.
Dont make this mistake. You have 7 yrs of exp, that is huge, had it been 2-3years then may be you could have thought about it, but not now.
c.)Then how can i start a career in finance, what should my entry route look like?
Ans. Here you would have two options:
1)Getting a break into mgt consulting(MC): This would not all be dificult for you. There would many employers willing to take you in MC, try for the big consulting names like Bain,BCG,Mckinsey,EY, KPMG, Delloite,PwC,...googlel it, you'll find it. But MC is very different from finance, it may or may not satisfy your appetite for finance.
2)Going in for an exec MBA in finance related field.:This surely would help you break into the finance side of the organization, but you would have to struggle against your peers who would have similar expn like yourself but in finance.
Hope, this helps you in any way/manner.Please let me know if it does.
And plz feel free to get in touch , for further chit /chat.
All the very best.
Hi Seniors,
I am not in very much troble and not able to justify my pupose of MBA. Since I acquired the sense of being in society,my motto of life has been to help my society and this is one the main driving force I want to do MBA from IIM. At the age of bw 40-45, I want to start factory/company in villages and want to urbanise the villages.
But my problem starts from here. I have also a work-ex of 2.5 yrs as a soft eng. My project is for one of top investment banks and it is about clearance and settlement. So I have got pretty much interest in finance and so want to do MBA in finance.
Now I am not sure how to convince my interviewer, 'how would' MBA in finance' help me in achiving the motto of my life.?".
Please advise.
