Why Finance?

Hi Manu,
Don't think like once you do an MBA, your IT skills will be waste. Instead from my personal experience I can say that IT skills gives you a lot of edge in any of the job you will do after MBA. With only IT degree you shall be limited to only development related jobs. With MBA in hand it will be lot easier to climb the corporate ladder. MBA adds many skills which are hardly ever focused during engineering, like presentation, networking, communication etc. Hope this helps.

@joyjitpalFor trading you will need to polish your analytical skills. CFA is good for people who want get into Buy side firms and Portfolio Management. FRM is an option if you want to get into Risk Management. In India, recently algo trading has been very much in growth stage. You can check out website www.quantmaster.in/QuantitativeAndAlgorithmicTrading.aspx for more details on it.Gaurav Bhabhera

@frankfurtadm thanks for oyur help..
but I'm not interested to pursue master's abroad...
Dear umarfe,

Thanks for your reply. No worries, hope that was still helpful. May I just ask why courses abroad is not of your interest?

I wish you all the best in any case and hope you will get into the desired university and field.
@frankfurtadm i know it's of more value than pursuing in India from an ordinary college..

But right now i don't have those options... Studying abroad may become an option after 2-3 years...

umarfe,

I understand that and wish you all the best in your studies and future,

Kind regards,

Inga
@manukk Hey Mansi, i was going through a same phase. I can understand your problem. If you stay in Mumbai by any chance just visit Imarticus Learning in Andheri. They have got very useful courses. 😃

@sachin_nitrkl@quantmasterHello sirI'm an engineering grad who wants to enter the finance field (more interested in Corporate Finance).. I have few doubts. Let me try to clearly word my questions so that you could help me.1. Before joining any college for MBA is it necessary for me to gain some work exp in finance??but many companies I came across are not willing to take an engg grad for a fin job..2. To enter finance field which degree is better: MBA in finance or some pure finance related studies like MFC/MFA/some other master's in finance??3. How good is an MBA in banking technology to enter finance field?4. Suppose I got a job in managerial positions in banks like ICICI/SBI: How easy it will be to change to fields like Corporate Finance, IB, Merchant Banking, Risk Mgmt, etc with few years work exp in a commercial bank?Sorry for troubling you with these many ignorant questions.. Any help will be very much appreciated..
1. Not required.
2. MBA in finance with CA or CFA would be great.
3.slight advantage may be ..
4. It will be easier for u if u carry that work-ex into a MBA degree .. w/o MBA i cant comment how useful it would be.
@sachin_nitrkl well... thank you very much for taking your time to clear my doubts..

For the fourth question it's as you said.. working for 4-5 yrs and get into a top ranked MBA program...

I had learned that CFA and CA are some tougher exams... and they will open door to vast no. of opportunities when combined with an MBA..

What about the opportunities CFP/CPA/CRM??

I have some basic info like CPA will get me into accounting, CRM will get me somewhere into risk, asset, portfolio mgmt... if you could giv some more details abt these it'll be helpful..

CFP... i jus know its expanded form... and nothing else..
@maverickgenius Hello Mr. Maverick, i think you should try out a course like CIBIP (Certified Investment Banking IT Professional). Many IT students have tried that course.

@rajarora1988 I have read this somewhere that Govt. of India has announced 39000 crores expenses on Rural development under Village employment guarantee scheme . It means large or high number of MBA finance are needed in future for rural development . MBA finance can take challenge to manage rural area by effective utilization of financial resources of Govt. of India. Hope this helps
