Hello ppl

I am the firstt one to post my exreince.
it was at Indian social institute.
and the only thing they asked in the interview was acads and nothing else.
i tried several times to divert it to other topics of my interests but they kept asking questions frm acads and i screwed my interview big time.

anyways best of luck to the ppl who hv to appear 4 the interview.

WTF is with them guyz!
+2 Maths !!!! Are they nuts!
Do u know the professors? they might have intro themselves ?

7-min GD? How short can a short GD be?
What do they see in just 5 -7 mins! how many participants in a grp?

any Current Affairs etc? Usual stuff like personal questions ...why MBA etc etc?

This is turning out to be the funniest experiences I've heard!

Do reply plz.

Hi,

Here goes my GD/PI eperience....

Had my GD/PI yesterday at 11am batch in Delhi. 8 ppl each in a grp, with 1 absent in mine.
the GD topic was "Multinational Companies are devils in disguise"....

The GD was quite peaceful with everyone contributing and the small grp size being a favorable factor... Thinking time was said to be 1 min but i dont think they gave more than 30 secs and then rang the bell.... suddenly when the GD was pickign up momentum a panelist rang the bell and to our surprise the GD was finished... it only lasted 7-8 mins....

Then had my interview.... it started on a good note with a panelist asking me "who was Shantanu in Mahabharata ?" answered it and then he laughed ... then my bad times started ....was grilled really bad on acads with each member taking turns to #$%^& me  ... then was asked about my extra currics but didnt ask anything about it... there were a couple of questions asked about "panchayati raj" n "IT Bill".... then again on acads...

one of panelists even left the room while my interview was going on....

left the room with a sinking kind of feeling....

i know i havent done well at all in the interview but plz give ur comments....

am sincerely hoipng that my XAT percentile ( 99. comes to my rescue...

- Shantanu

Thanks for the exp Shantanu,

well,if you are a fresher then the stress on acads could be understandable and your quality of answers would have decisive impact on your selection.

If you are a work Exp guy then it's mostly the way you field the questions on acads that might be more important than the actual answers, sincce then oyu wouldn't be expected to be in fine touch.

Do let us know ur profile.we may be better able to guess your performance.

All the Best anyhow!
Best Regards

Well I ahd an year's work ex in an NGO but wasnt asked a single question on it... it seemed that the panelists were hell bent on asking only acads...

- Shantanu

hmm...that's a cause for concern.
But look at the brighter side ...they didnt ask you +2 Maths!
So maybe you were in a better position to answer the questions than a Hotel Management guy explaining Integration and Derivatives!

Dunno ...what these guys are up to...is it always this way!
Seniors from XIMB ...where art thou???

Gaurav,Malloy, Shriyukta...waiting for ur comments here guys!

All the best to others.
Cheers

hi guys,
I apologize for incorrect info provided above.
anyway, I had my GD/PI at XIM campus today.

I am BE(comp sci), 2004 passout, no work-ex, XAT percentile-93.54, oriya domicile.

3 panelists. 2 from HR and 1 from Corporate Strategy.

Group Discussion:
7 ppl in a group.
10 mins to discuss.
Topic: What 3 things should be done to make Bhubaneswar a interesting place for young people.
one of the panelists interrupted towards the end of the GD and asked a girl to speak something (she was quiet throughout the GD).
All-in-all pretty decent GD round....niraj happy

Interview:
panelist-1: why did u pursue your graduation from Bangalore (i am a native of orissa)?
Niraj: madam, I wanted to study computers and bangalore had the best of oppurtunities for it. moreover, i get pampered a lot by my grandparents(they stay in kolkata and I did my +2 from cal, performed miserably in boards) when i stay at home and this is reflected in my marks, so I prefer to stay away from home.
panelist-1: what did you do after your graduation (since june'04)?
Niraj: I travelled a lot. I didn't join any company as I was interested in MBA and most of the IT companies have bonds. moreover, its ethically inappropriate to join a company for 3-4 months and leave it as soon as you get admission in a b-school. So I preferred to stay at home and prepare for entrance exams.
panelist-2: i shall ask you some technical question. what do you mean by "encryption"?
Niraj: encryption is used to transform data into a form which is not understandable to normal human beings. special machines are used to encrpt such data so that it can transferred without any security hassles.
panelist-2: where can we use encryption?
Niraj: defence. infact, when we type password for using our email accounts then that password is also encrypted.
panelist-2: what are the keys used in encryption?
Niraj: sir, i could not understand the question properly.
panelist-2: there are some special keys used for encryption, what are they?
Niraj: Sorry sir, I don't have much idea about it.
panelist-1: what is bio-metric?
Niraj: Madam, I am sorry but I have heard this term for the first time. However, I would love to know more about it.
panelist-1: its related to encryption.
Niraj: ok. i suppose it has more to do with network security. we didn't have this topic in our syllabus though.
panelist-2: Niraj, do you read comics?
Niraj: No sir. I am not interested in comics. Although I do read business magazines and at times go through the Dilbert strip in business today.
panelist-2: ok, there is an indian character in Dilbert. whats his name?
Niraj: Sorry sir, as i said that i am not into comics and till now i haven't come across any such character in the few Dilbert strips which i have read.
panelist-2: don't you think that they are sarcastic at times?
Niraj: yes sir, they are. infact in one of the strips they were making fun of IITians.
panelist-2: (laughs, so those the other 2)
panelist-1: who writes this comic "Dilbert"?
Niraj: (I was getting frustrated. inspite of the fact that i made it very clear that i am not into comics they were grilling me on it) sorry madam, as I said that i rarely read "dilbert", I have never noticed the name of its writer.
panelist-3: which state is under......(i don't remember the term he used)?
Niraj: (it was such a weird terminology that i forgot the term as soon as i left the hall)
well sir, as of today, only 3 states are under trouble. Goa, Jharkhand and Bihar.
panelist-3: (laughs) so you have 33% chance of answering the question correctly. pick your answer.
Niraj: sir, since Jharkhand has a CM now and he has to prove majority on 14th march, it shouldn't be the answer. Bihar has come under president's rule since yesterday and hence the answer should be Goa.
panelist-3: (laughs again)its incorrect. your chances of giving a correct answer is 50-50 now.
Niraj: (with a fake smile)sir, bihar is safe under president's rule so i go with jharkhand this time.
panelist-3: but jharkhand is safe too under its new CM, although he has to prove majority later.
Niraj: sir if "president's rule" is synonymous with the term you mentioned then Bihar is the definite answer.
panelist-3: no no no.
(all 3 panelists starts laughing)
panelist-3: can the chief minister of a state issue an arrest warrant against a cabinet minister?
( i was wondering why on earth were they after political issues:huh: ?
Niraj: Sir, it depends. everything in politics is done through a channel. And this decision can be taken provided it has been routed through a proper channel.
panelist-3: but about an year ago jayalalitha issued arrest warrant against cabinet minister Maran without any consultations?
Niraj: Sir, I can't recall the exact incident properly but I do remember that DMK leader was arrested in chennai.
Panelist-3: (laughs) then, according to you Jayalalitha can also issue arrest warrant against our PM.
( i was putting up a brave smile and trying to give round-about answers)
Niraj: well sir, Maran was elected from Tamil Nadu and Jayalalitha being the CM of TN was in a position to issue the warrant. But our PM has no links with TN so Jayalalitha can't issue warrant against him.
Panelist-3: (laughs loudly) thats incorrect. tell something else.
Niraj: (repeats the same answer in a different set of words).
Panelist-3: (continues laughing, by this time the ohter 2 panelists also starts laughing) so according to you PM can't be arrested by the orders of CM.
Niraj: depends on the situation, sir. I think I have to review my knowledge regarding political issues (didn't have any other option but to kill this bugging discussion )
panelist-1: thank you. you may leave now.

Ufff.....what a bad interview. I was literally ragged. I didn't understand why were they asking such absurd questions and laughing all the time....is this some sort of "stress interview". my Gd was rocking, donno what will be the final verdict.

Niraj

Hi Niraj,

Good that you had a good GD...Maybe some of it influneces the final decision.

About the Interview:
The personal answers were fine I gues..no hassels.

About Encryption I cant comment ...but there are somethings called as public encryption keys...maybe something liek brute force etc is more closer. And I claim to be a "Reverse Engineer"

Biomentric may be that about fingerprints and eye-lids related verifications that were in news some time ago...and used in high security areas....Thats a wild guess though!

Indian Char in Dilbert was an IITian Ashok....since u mentiond IITians ..maybe thats why they started laughing ....cause u were so near!

Adam Scott writes dilbert ...Dilbert Principles in Management ring a bell?! Fine if u dont know it though, not everybody knows everybody...!

State under "Special category/Army Act/cud be anything like that...cant know since we havent heard the term....Maybe here on they felt there were a lil too negatives coming out....
At least you managed to speak out something when they gave u probabilitys etc...can go in ur advantage in a situation that u r not comfortable with.

Guess warrants against cabinet minister have to have speaker's persmission...but u did mention channesl dint u! so that shldnt be bad...bud About maran ...well...frankly ..I'd be on a sticky wicket myself!

that one about PM being from India was a long shot ,eh

Absurd questions ,laughing , obviously a stress interview.
Acads for others mean everybody is being asked on sth he isnt comfortable about.

luck might turn. With ur domicile, and good GD...who knows....All the best buddy.
