thnks..........

I've got 89.60 percentile in xat . . . the problem is that my acads are pretty pathetic i.e. 77% in 10th, 62.60% in 12th, and only 55.4% in graduation . . . how do you rate my chances of converting my call? . . .

XISS is not one of those typical MBA institutions in India. It has existed for a long time, still it takes students with low percentiles, has low placement stats and even has been underdeveloped to some extent when compared to other institutions. However, it still attracts students with high percentile and they do apply, but their number is low compared to students applying from areas close to Ranchi.

This this point it is about applicants wish of what kind of college they would like to study. The scenario changes when the college selects students for the program. First, 1260 students have been called in General category for 70-75 odd seats. Most of the applicants have weak presentation skills or they lack exposure or even communication skills. Taking it to another level, the institute is more concerned with the rural community. They are not concerned much with who runs AIG, what they need is students to have a zeal towards rural development. The PM program is also interrelated to the rural development. This comes as a major factor in shortlisting the students.

So, if a student want to pay less get a good MBA degree in that just like that way, then mabe he won't get selected, however, if he shows certain attributes towards rural economy, development and wish to work in the field he may get a chance.

I've heard about a student who scored some 90%tile + and was not given a place in the PM program. He filed a case against the institute, however, the institute claimed that he was not fit for their program. It's true because XISS is not just another MBA institution. The applicant is required to be motivated and understand what the institution looks for.

GD/PI
I do not have much information about the topics or the process. I don't think it would be tough, if you have good presentation skills and ability to forward your thoughts. Still, if someone posts a few topics, it would be beneficial for the mass.

There shouldn't be any problem at GD/PI, whether you have applied to a single program or multiple. By applying to multiple programs you are on safer side.

It seems like you are considering XISS as your last option. I should tell you that besides PM and RD, you would get easily selected for IT/Marketing/Finance program. I've been to the institution, talked to students and the reality is, its not all that hoo haa. They give calls to students with 40%tile and low. Many students apply who lack communication skills which they check in the interview, next they select those who are more determined for the program they are applying. Getting into PM and RD is a bit difficult as they are the flagship programs and the institution looks for the zeal in students to study this program. However, after meeting the students at XLRI and XISS, I see that a major difference is in maturity and work experience of the candidates. If you have knowledge and maturity, you can easily get into PM program.

Scroll a few pages back and you would find my post on XISS's reality. There are also posts by some students, so take your time and read all of them.

Finally, be sure to be selected in the institution. Given you can talk at GD/PI. You will be easily selected for the IT/Mark/Fin program. PM and RD would depend on your approach.

Hope it helps.

hi!! disillusioned...
thanx alot for ur enlightment...actually a bit nervous...XISS is my last hope ..so banking on it totally...pretty confident abt my presentation and communication skills..but i cld see talks of back door entry...now this makes me a bit sceptical abt the entire process....moreover i cld see hardly any discussions abt the way interviews are conducted.....though my profile is strong but the talks of "unfairness" is giving me nightmares.......and as per specilaisations are concerned obviously i am very very keen for PM.Appearing as if u have done quite a bit of research on this college....acha tell me ..is the college having wi fi connectivity or not...though they are boasting of it..i am a bit sceptical abt it too...and after ur survey cld u just givve hints as to on wat lines one shld prepare for interviews and gd....as i had gone thru the brochure...i had the feeling tat they are looking for students who are not carried away by big glamourous packages instead keen to serve the society...is it true..kindly guide thru this...and i am very thankful for ur post...

There are only 34 pages on this thread. I advise you to start reading from the 1st, you would get many of your questions answered.

Backdoor Entry. I've not heard about this, however, possibilities are always there. From where did you get this information? I don't think students are willing to pay 6 lacks for MBA in Ranchi as they would for MBA in Pune or some other place. The point is its not about institution its about Place. Some good institutions have they own scope for Management Seats, though, a christian minority asking for money, I kind of doubt it.

The hostel for girls is not good, WiFi is a hoax, they have been working on it for years. Students talk about Data Cards for accessing internet, so you can understand the scenario. Honestly, there ain't anything great about the institution. The program is low priced, so you get less facilities. The best part is if you are good and confident, an instition doesn't matter much, what matters is what you are, so you will get a good palcement not a fancy one and that would be your story. Return on Inverstment is good on this program.

Getting into the PM program.
1260 students have been called for the program. 50% of seats in the batch is reserved for the minority. 50% or even less is for general. A tough competition. Not really. What you should remember is the students who are called have percentiles as low as 50-55. Most of the students who have low percentiles have less to talk about, and this is where they get shortlisted. Also higher percentile students are exaggeraters, and hence they ain't selected either. Once you receive a call for GD/PI, all you need is to focus on how will you present yourself. If you are a fancy air head MBA seeker who is doing all this just for the sake of money, then forget it girl, the dean is a minority, but is smart enough to judge. But if you have genuine interest in the activities of the instition which includes Rural Development and emphasis on Rural Community, then you would surely have a green flag.

I'll be attending the GD/PI however I myself don't know what kind of topics they have. The good part with me is I know things from AIG to Narega, which I believe would give me an edge, if things like that are asked in the Interview.

I have rural roots and am going to inherit the small agribusiness of the family some day, long term goals include expansion and growth of the same, short term: getting exposure (I am a fresher), applied for PM, you think I am motivated enough to convince the minority dean ( xat 79.87)

@ishan.parmer
IMHO you will be considered for the program given at the time of the interview you forward your thoughts and be prepared to answer by PM not RD program.
