There are only 34 pages on this thread. I advise you to start reading from the 1st, you would get many of your questions answered.

Backdoor Entry. I've not heard about this, however, possibilities are always there. From where did you get this information? I don't think students are willing to pay 6 lacks for MBA in Ranchi as they would for MBA in Pune or some other place. The point is its not about institution its about Place. Some good institutions have they own scope for Management Seats, though, a christian minority asking for money, I kind of doubt it.

The hostel for girls is not good, WiFi is a hoax, they have been working on it for years. Students talk about Data Cards for accessing internet, so you can understand the scenario. Honestly, there ain't anything great about the institution. The program is low priced, so you get less facilities. The best part is if you are good and confident, an instition doesn't matter much, what matters is what you are, so you will get a good palcement not a fancy one and that would be your story. Return on Inverstment is good on this program.

Getting into the PM program.
1260 students have been called for the program. 50% of seats in the batch is reserved for the minority. 50% or even less is for general. A tough competition. Not really. What you should remember is the students who are called have percentiles as low as 50-55. Most of the students who have low percentiles have less to talk about, and this is where they get shortlisted. Also higher percentile students are exaggeraters, and hence they ain't selected either. Once you receive a call for GD/PI, all you need is to focus on how will you present yourself. If you are a fancy air head MBA seeker who is doing all this just for the sake of money, then forget it girl, the dean is a minority, but is smart enough to judge. But if you have genuine interest in the activities of the instition which includes Rural Development and emphasis on Rural Community, then you would surely have a green flag.

I'll be attending the GD/PI however I myself don't know what kind of topics they have. The good part with me is I know things from AIG to Narega, which I believe would give me an edge, if things like that are asked in the Interview.

hi!!! disillusioned..
thanx once again for the useful post..i am getting a kind of solace on hearing that there is fair selection process ...hmmm..as per hostel and wi fi connectivity is considered ..at such a price it would be truly unfair to expect a lavish and super ultra lifestlye over there...however i feel that the college contains the basics well..rest all ..we have to work ourselves....however the interview is really tricky i guess ..seeing the lots in which students are called..lots of filtering rounds!!!! Anyways lets hope for the best and forget the rest...all the best to you..wens ur interview scheduled..mine its on 14th of april...

@ disillusioned
hey do u have any guesses as how much we should talk inside..wat is the rough time duration of an avg interview....regarding acads..do they ask questions from core subjects or just social issues....and wat type of students they are hunting for....Regarding PM ..how will be justify...PM wid social issues ?????

@khushi.2008
It all depends on your perspective, the way you make them understand your interest in PM and how much you are concerned about social reforms. I do not have any idea about the interview process, however, I'm sure the discussions and wasting so much of time here is not worth this institution. The students who study the PM program are no Harvard Graduates, they have minimum exposure, they have paper based knowledge and they belong to areas close to Ranchi, that's the majority, there are students from Delhi making less than 10% of the batch. If you are flashy and talk about your concern towards recession, you may not be that ideal candidate.
A student contact at XISS told me that GD topics range from current issues to social concerns and political views. Its variable.

@abdullko
Keep this thought straight. If you have received a call for GD/PI, you do deserve a place at the program. Students with 55%tile in General category are also there in PM program. I've seen many people over exaggerate the selection criteria. Why do you think the institute would call 1260 candidates when they can call 500 or so for filling 70 seats (I'm not sure about the exact number). Also they are not asking you to pay anything more. The reason is simple, this institute is not meant for producing big brains who have expectations to get 20lacks package, they look for students who have ambition to do better in life for themselves and their communities. Get this under your skin, they don't need a super smart, hi-fi chap, they need an average, ambitious guy who has intelligence and with a bit of help from the institution can do even better.

=About me=
I started my own business when I was in high school. 18yr old and was earning 30000 a month. Next I startes a consultancy firm. I ran it parallel to graduation, and have been filing taxes ever since I was eligible to do so. My academics have been checkred, A good score in 10th but a year drop and low percentile in 12th, but again a high score in grad. My XAT score was high last year but I didn't took admission anywhere, this year its pathetically low, however, I've decided to take admission. My job has taken me to places, I've tasted expensive lobsters at Golden Dragon, Taj Mahal hotel to eaten Vada Paav for survival. I've stayed in village hut and met naxalites and also have stayed in 5 stars with my own money and met people like Pawan Kumar Munjal. After all this I've realized that I'm a humanitarian, I believe in equal right and opportunity and so I plan to study HRM. The reason why I'm planning for MBA is because I feel the need to polish my raw knowledge.
- Thats what my profile is like..

yes i also dont knw y no seniors r replying on ths thread....
but my 2 frnds hv passed frm xiss and frm their exp i hv posted earlier tht topics will be very genreal and mainly related to social and current issues....
obivously as the gd season is goin on ur preparation till today is enough for the xiss and u dont hv to look out of box topics....so just keep reading and mostly its ur communication skill tht will matter at the end.....
so in my view we shud nt woory abt the gd anymore and keep goin thru all the topics which we hv done till now...
and for pi its mostly acads and simple hr question....as it has been discussed earlier ur inclination towards social service will attract the pannel attention so we shud try to see tht point tht how to link ourselves to it....

allthe best...

some topics which i cud suggest r here....

social topics:

1.Is Big Dams Necessary?
2.Films are corrupting the Indian Youth
3.Bride burning and dowry may look bad, but are an integral part of India.
4.Our Culture is Decaying
5.We are not serious about saving Wildlife/Environment
6.The education system needs serious reforms
7.Showing Violence and Crimes should not be allowed in films and on television.
8. The Internet chains have come on the wings of science and technology but are no less restrictive for all that.
9. Secularism has become a tool to justify the wrongs done by the minorities.
10. Media is a mixed blessing/How ethical is media?
11.What should India strive for- Westernization or modernization?
