What is Common Aptitude Test (CAT)?
CAT (Common Admission Test) is one of the well-known entrance exams among MBA candidates. This is a national-level entrance test conducted for getting admission to Top IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management) and various other popular management colleges. Around 1000 management colleges offer admissions to MBA programs based on CAT scores.
- The Common Admission Test is conducted in CBT mode that is designed for students to check their aptitude skills in various sections such as quantitative ability, data interpretation, logical reasoning and verbal ability, and reading comprehension.
- It is conducted in two different sessions i.e. morning and afternoon on the same date.
- The exam paper consists of 100 questions of two types: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Type in the Answer (TITA) questions. This must be solved in 180 minutes.
- Candidates seeking admission to MBA colleges will need to have a valid CAT score or percentile. Thus, a decent score in each section and overall determines the selection of candidates for the next rounds of graduate management program admission.
- After getting a decent percentile in the CAT examination, the shortlisted applicants will be called for the second stage of the MBA admission process. The second stage may include a Group discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT), and Personal Interview (PI).
- Candidates must secure good marks in the CAT exam to be eligible for the second stage of the exam. The scores of the CAT examination are an integral part of the CAT index score as it carries a minimum 20% weightage in the final merit.
