IIIT Tiruchirappalli – Indian Institute of Information Technology Overview

Indian Institute of Information Technology Tiruchirappalli was established in  2013. Under the rule of the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Central government decided to establish the institute in Srirangam. That’s why the institute is also known as IIIT Srirangam. The Anna University mentored the IIIT Trichy.

The institute commenced in the campus of Bharathidasan Institute of Technology (BIT) but changed to the National Institute of Technology on 22nd March 2016.

Indian Institute of Information Technology, also known as IIIT Trichy has been approved by the government as the Institute of National Importance. Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has also approved this institute.

There are many courses offered at IIIT Tiruchirapalli on academic levels of undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The subjects available in these courses include Computer Science and Engineering, Database Systems, Electronics and Communication Engineering etc. IIIT Trichy MBA will be provided by the institute in future.

IIIT Trichy offers many engineering courses on undergraduate and postgraduate levels with 30 seats for each session. B. Tech courses available in the institute include Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. M. Tech is offered by the institute in subjects like Software Engineering, Database Systems and Computer Science and Engineering.

The fee of the B. Tech course in both given subjects is 7.12 lakhs. The duration of these courses is between two to four years.

IIIT Tiruchirapalli Admission Process

IIIT Trichy admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses are conducted on the basis of the scores obtained in the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering (GATE). JEE Mains exam is followed by a counselling round conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority.

The candidates are required to get certain scores in these tests to make them eligible for admission in the institute. B. Tech applicants are required to get a certain score in JEE Mains and M. Tech applicants are required to get a certain score in GATE.  The final round is the personal interview round.

Results of JEE Mains and GATE are considered important for admission in the institute. However, IIIT Trichy cut off score decides whether the students will be selected for a particular course or not.

The cut-off score is announced after the JEE and GATE results are out.  B. Tech candidates are required to cross the JEE Mains cut off score while M. Tech candidates are required to cross the GATE cut off mark. 

IIIT Trichy cutoff list is prepared on the basis of a number of factors involved like a number of participating students in the qualifying exam, their scores in the exam, the difficulty level of the exam and the number of seats available in the institute.
