NIT Silchar is an autonomous university founded by the Government of India and the State Government of Assam. The institute is ranked 49th on the NIRF 2021 Engineering list. NIT Silchar is the first institute in India's northeast to have a C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing). The institute currently has 105 active sponsored research projects funded by prestigious organizations such as AICTE, ISIF Asia, SPARC, ASEAN, and others.
Engineering, Basic Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management are among the degree programs available at the institute. NIT Silchar's major programs include BTech and MTech. JEE Main rank is used to select students for the NIT Silchar BTech program. For MTech admissions, the institute accepts the GATE exam rank. Candidates seeking admission to the BTech program must achieve a JEE Main exam rank of 7300-65000. A GATE score of 400-600 is preferred for MTech admission.
NIT Silchar is also at the top of national and international rankings. Dataquest Top T-Schools and NIRF ranked it as the second best technological institute in the east zone. NIT Silchar was ranked 401-450 in the QS Asia University Rankings 2022. Similarly, the institute has been placed in the second highest, excellent band of the ARIIA Rankings 2021.
Amazon recently hired three NIT Silchar students at the highest CTC of INR 44 LPA. Similarly, Microsoft and Adobe have each offered a CTC of INR 41.86 LPA and INR 40.93 LPA. NIT Silchar Placements 2022 has 19 job offers totaling more than INR 31 LPA. This has resulted in significant participation from recruiters such as Swiggy, Samsung R&D Institute, AWS, Vedanta Resources, Optum, Make my Trip, CGI, and many more.
