proteus SaysYup... U r right.. I forgot the newer IIMs (Shillong, Ranchi n Rohtak). It will be great for the wait listed if a sizeable number of guys who r selected by BIM get selected there too.
It is not necessary that BIM people should get IIMs...some people in other colleges like IMT ghaziabad ,GIM ,TAPMI would go to IIMs and that vacancy will be filled by some people selected or waitlisted in BIM and by that way we can get an opportunity..This is possible coz many people those who are selected or waitlisted in BIM are also waitlisted in these colleges and IIMs

Can someone please confirm whether we have to actually send a fee of any kind to confirm the willingness to join BIM if I am waitlisted. I am in OC category waitlisted as Number 3.
Guess this question has already been answered, But still want a confirmation(NOM - just to be sure).
I am asking this because :
- I didnt get any official mail asking me to do so.
- Also I had called up BIM office and they said to call up after 20th of May.

Planning to join BIM
Hi everybody (including seniors),
I have some queries reg BIM.
In many of posts (previous) ppl are saying they have got Tapmi or GIM and leaving BIM. Does it mean, they are better than BIM?
before applying to colleges i have done small investigation abt colleges w.r.t placements (very imp for all ), companies visitng, ROI, loan facility, college cutoffs , aluminus and ..etc
I ended up deciding as BIM is far better in placements compared to TAPMI and GIM and also w.r.t aluminus, ROI and did not apply even. But now i am seeing lot of ppl leaving BIM for those colleges , so i got doubt , did i do any mistake in my research.
seniors please clarify , why it is so under rated? please share the reasons , if any. Because MBA is very serious and matters a lot for me (for many also).
Hi... Am no senior....
But let me give my opinion...
I agree some students prefer TAPMI or GIM over BIM... When you look closely at them, they will be OC candidates.... Most of the North Indian candidates do not prefer BIM because of the location of the institute and also because of the fact the infrastructure is not good enough in BIM....
TAPMI is located in Manipal among the thick of industries..... And GIM, as everyone knows, one of the oldest institutes and known for the excellent faculty (most of them with above 30 years experience...). So the network of staff and Alumni in GIM is very huge.......Fees - 6 lakhs for the two years program.... Average salary around 6.5 lpa.... ROI is great.....
BIM on the other hand has a very good placement record....
Look at the two years' placement report of all the 3 colleges....
TAPMI has a different set of companies coming for placements every year...
But look at BIM, the names of companies will be almost the same every year... This is the tie-up every institute should possess.... It is because of this tie-up, BIM achieved 100% placements with good package (7lpa last year during recession when GIM's CTS was around 5.5lpa)....
So I would prefer BIM over other institutes in this regard (Placements)....
Disclaimer: All my figures are based on the data I collected.... Seniors, pls correct me if am wrong....

Even my research turned out me finding out that BIM had better placements with better packages.
I took opinions from TIME heads of Chennai and Trivandrum, they both also suggested BIM over TAPMI
catlavanya SaysI've send my dd of 50k.. will i get a confirmation letter or anything of that sort help please...

I agree with some of the previous posts that most north Indians would prefer TAPMI / GIM over BIM..
But i must add, Placements should not be your sole guiding factor while choosing a b-school.
You attend a b-school to become a manager..so u should come out of the college with knowledge, good exposure,a job (preferably with good packages) and a good brand name..
As someone said, TAPMI and GIM may have lesser pay packages, but they give u better exposure..plus they have better infrastructure.. also, u should not just see the initial pay packages offered, but also how much more u can earn once u start performing well in the industry..and i guess, for that, a good brand name helps..
All said and done, BIM is definitely a good b-school..and is probably under-rated..
P.S. I know comparison is not allowed in PG..but i felt compelled to write..

Hi,
All of us are doing our interns across different locations so we are unable to help out with these issues as the procedures might be different to what we had last year. The admission office should be able to help u out quite well in this regard.

Small clarification....
When u talk about infrastructure, the academic infrastructure is on par or even better than the other colleges mentioned. The hostel or classrooms may not be world class but gud enough.
But the library collection, online subscriptions etc and everything else related to acads is definitely the best that can be.

Honestly , placements are just a reflection of what the industry thinks of a b school..A recruiter returns to a b school only because he is impressed by the quality of students...With n number of b schools available I dont think the companies are in dearth of choices...And that too when someone comes all the way down to trichy to recruit I guess there must be some reason...

Definitely we r not great when it comes to infra ( its not like we sit under the trees n study...we just like any other school have ac classrooms ,wi fi , awesome hostels ...probably u wont find those scenic landscapes and huge buildings..honestly the infra is very decent accordin to me ).. Anyway with respect to what u learn out here and our performance in the industry we r definitely one of the best ..the brand just gives u the first break n after that its all about how u perform...BIM definitely is a brand and the CEOs , VPs , Fund Managers that we have amongst our alumni are not just a coincidence !!!!
HEY PUYS JOIN BIM it is an excellent place to study ...somebody told that thru colleges we get only the initial pay and after that our performance matters ...It is true but remember that INITIAL pay is also important ...If you get an initial package of say 6 lakhs per annum it will take atleast or at times more than three years to raise it to 8.5 or 9 what ever may be your performance......
hi
ive been waitlisted in SC category
WL no 26
can anyone suggest last year's waitlist movememnt in SC category....
im desperate here......
I knew i invited groans by writing what i wrote..
I never said that BIM lacks infrastructure..it's just that some things in other colleges may be better..
I KNOW BIM is a good college, or I wouldn't have applied to it in the first place..
Whatever I wrote was totally my opinion.. My main point was that Placements shouldn't be the sole guiding factor..that's all.
BIM definitely has a wonderful faculty, and education-wise, it's there on the top.
I'm sorry if I hurt some of u.. But that was totally my own perception.
hey puys, it may sound silly and may attract groans too,.,.,.,.but are there a few more north indians like me ,.,,.who are planning to join bim trichy,.,.,.i mean there are just 38 os seats there ,.,.,.and we will be a part of miniscule minority. But then i blieve that i am an indian first, a north indian later , and the kind of exposure that bim may provide me would be better than any north indian b-school. Seniors your help regarding this query would be graetly appreciated.I have just a few of them.
1> what about the mess food , is there anything north indian there?( i can accomodate though, as i have been in boarding for a very long time)
2>i know that it may sound harsh ,.,but i saw a few anti-northy comment( like north indian girl being inferior to south ) here. So are there some occurence of anti-north inian spat there?
3> i am a fresher so is it possible that my pay package would be comparatively lower then work ex guys?

Hi Piyush,
Mess food has north indian stuff on most days. But then the taste would definitely not be wat u have at home. But then its the same for south indian food also. Everybody will have to adjust a little i guess.
And any sort of north Indian spat inside campus is pure fiction and u don need to worry at all.
As far as pay package it depends on what the companies decide. They may give weightage to work ex in their policies and it is entirely in hands of recruiters.
Regards,
Bharath
