Hello Parth, First of all congrats for getting shortlisted and secondly for raising such an important question. In response to your question I would like to tell you that I am from kolkata and I have always felt regretted for the decision of selecting BIM for doing MBA. The reasons are as follows- 1) Favoritism towards students depending upon the region to which they belong. e.g. more north Indians failing each and every trimester and also getting very low CGPA's except few exceptions. 2) Unavailability of college building (it's running on rented building from BHEL from whom there is always a threatening to leave the campus, still it's running there only and there are no signs of shifting it anywhere else) 3) Frequent problems ranging from power cuts( college has no backup system), water shortage, pathetic net speed and poor food for people especially North Indians. Even South Indians also occasionally take food outside only. 4) BIM always boasts about value based education, but the reality is that the quality is pathetic. Most of the profs don't know the way to teach.(They call guest faculties which are entirely from South India and have passed from any one of the IIM's at sometime. Believe me they are the worst teachers you can find anywhere. The main focus is on mugging and repeating it in exams rather than understanding anything) 5) This time I think like every year they will be showing the salary figures too high to attract students, but don't go by such figures because they are very good in number crunching. Whatever they show will be less by around 1L per category. 6) To generate extra money there has been frequent cases of students being failed by the office and they make money in the name of supplementary paper and revaluation paper. 7) North Indians have got less pay packages because the companies here prefer South Indians only. There is corruption at every level and politics goes on between the permanent faculty. 9) Also all the money collected from BIM, Trichy is being fed to the BIM Bangalore which is separate institute of one of the former corrupt Director, so Iam not sure that whether the brand BIM will prevail in the future at all. 10) BIM expects students to do everything for it, but does very limited or nil things for them. 11) Last, but not the least for you guys the fee will be very high and I am not sure you guys will be able to repay your loans easily with the placement which you will get. So I'll suggest for North Indians it's a suffering which they can choose only if they don't have any other option.
Now any of the other seniors have anything to comment on this post...or should we take it as the real fact of non-south students.....????

It is really true for north indian...Please senior clarify it.THere is any kind of discrimination here in studies and placement.Tell us the truth.
I need to change dates for my GD/PI... got NITIE one on 15th in Mumbai and this one is on the 16th... What is the procedure to be followed? Hope it is possible.
Hi, I am Sharan. I belong to the 25th batch. The answers for the questions you have raised. /* 1) Favoritism towards students depending upon the region to which they belong. e.g. more north Indians failing each and every trimester and also getting very low CGPA's except few exceptions.*/
This is absolutely unacceptable. The good performer is always rewarded with a good score. These are interpretations given by losers.
/*2) Unavailability of college building (it's running on rented building from BHEL from whom there is always a threatening to leave the campus, still it's running there only and there are no signs of shifting it anywhere else)*/
BIM was started with collaboration with BHEL and the collaboration is still fruitful. And for that purpose BHEL extends support through giving land and administrative building. Now recently BHEL is extending its factory and hence we (BIM) and BHEL are looking for an alternate place. This issue has nothing to affect the students of BIM.
/* 4) BIM always boasts about value based education, but the reality is that the quality is pathetic. Most of the profs don't know the way to teach.(They call guest faculties which are entirely from South India and have passed from any one of the IIM's at sometime. Believe me they are the worst teachers you can find anywhere. The main focus is on mugging and repeating it in exams rather than understanding anything) */
I am student of second year. And most of my faculties are with at least 15 years of industries experience. Remember it is at least 15 years. Some of the faculty are much more experienced and are quite famous. These are purely to degrade the institutes name. BIM is a 25 years old institute. And it has good network with the industry people. So it was never a problem to get a good faculty. And the students here have the right to tell the management to change the faculty in case they are not satisfied.
/* 5) This time I think like every year they will be showing the salary figures too high to attract students, but don't go by such figures because they are very good in number crunching. Whatever they show will be less by around 1L per category.*/
The placement details have been uploaded in the college website. All the figures that appear in the report are 100% Accurate. /* 6) To generate extra money there has been frequent cases of students being failed by the office and they make money in the name of supplementary paper and revaluation paper. */
The office is just for the administrative purpose. It has no influence to fail students in the exam.
/* 7) North Indians have got less pay packages because the companies here prefer South Indians only. There is corruption at every level and politics goes on between the permanent faculty. */
All the companies that come here for placement are all renowned companies. These companies will have operations all over india and world. And there is no way to reject a candidate based on regional basis. If a candidate knows hindi then he will be more preferred by most companies. And few of the permanent faculties are BIM alumni who are back to BIM with industry experience and they are very dedicated towards the growth of the institute.
/* 9) Also all the money collected from BIM, Trichy is being fed to the BIM Bangalore which is separate institute of one of the former corrupt Director, so Iam not sure that whether the brand BIM will prevail in the future at all.*/
There have been some issues regarding BIM Bangalore and BIM. The courses offered by the BIM Bangalore is not an MBA course, it is a 1 year programme. The problems between these two institute will be settled soon and the management takes care of it. And even this wont affect the students in any way. BIM trichy has a brand name and will continue to have a good image.
/* 10) BIM expects students to do everything for it, but does very limited or nil things for them. */
In an MBA course it is common that the students take up responsibility in doing things. Like the placement committee, take care of the placements. And many other committees taking up a responsibility such public relations, marketing club- conduct events, finance club- organizing events, welfare committee taking care of the students facilty and the system committee take care of the IT infrastructure of the campus. The students in these committee have to ensure that the works are done properly and get the work done when it has to be. If any one considers these as burden then I would say he is not fit to be a manager.
/* 11) Last, but not the least for you guys the fee will be very high and I am not sure you guys will be able to repay your loans easily with the placement which you will get. */
I have a score of 93 percentile, I checked the site and found I was not shortlisted. I have entered the CAT ID starting with SR..... .. Is that what I should enter??

Im a student of the 26th batch of BIM and quite happy about the college.. I guess Sharan has answered most of ur questions.. All of which are very true and credible.. We as students are extremely happy with what the collage is doing for us. It is not a school to keep spoon feeding people.. At an MBA level the institute is only a facilitating body and in this regard BIM is doing a great job. The guest faculty tht we have even in the first year are AMAZING . BIM is my second home and i feel that the hostel food is very good. Apart form faculty who help us out 24X7 , we have our seniors who help us out in every regard ranging from acads to placements. BIM has everything and it is up to the student to make best use of it. Those who know how to do so would do it and those who dont cannot survive anywhere (NOT JUS IN BIM). It is for a manager to know how to use the resources provided to him. And im a student who has taken loan and extremely confident of my ROI.. BIM is an institute that boasts of value based education and stands by it. It is a college that has taught me so many things in life and im extremely indebted to it.
The issues stated by Nityanand are personal opinions which not many share.
But Some of the issues raised by him wit regard to Campus and faculty do hold some credibility but those are administrative issues which in no way affect the placements. College is doing its best to resolve it and in any case BHEL has always pledged to extend its support till a new campus is ready.
His opinion about partiality is absolutely baseless. Most of the recruiters who come here organisations of international repute with offices around the world and India. They would in no way be biased towards south indians or people of any particular region.
As everyone is aware nobody is gonna deny a gud student his marks. All those comments come from sheer frustration of the individuals inability to perform. True, There is a little bit of bias in evaluation but it is more to do with the students' involvement and participation in class rather than being regional.
To all the future aspirants I just wanna say tat BIM is a gud place to learn and experience life but it is not always a bed of roses.
You can reach the Chennai Central ...From there you can take a local train(from the PARK station opposite to Chennai Central Station) to Nungapakkam (IFMR is present here).... All the very best for your GD/PI process ...
hi all,I dont have any personal vendetta against BIM.Its jus tat u have said that BIM has been there for 25 years. Then how come most of the people prefer other colleges over BIM.Is it because BIM does not want to expose itself to the rest of India or does it want to restrict the entrants to south only. And regarding the interview locations, for a college of national repute, is it not necessary to have it in atleast the metros. Believe me there are no trains scheduled from my place to Chennai on the day of my interview. Because of this I would be required to take a leave for almost 1 week. And request you to provide a practical solution and not some high minded answers like IF U WANT TO ATTEND U WILL FIND A WAY OUT
i totally agree with divya has to say...bim has given us more than what v hav asked for...excellent placemnts, faculty and other resources.. and by no means is BIM biased towards south...v hav quite a good number of noth indians here and all of them have a high regard for this institute...
and as for travel problems...well yes i agree it mite b difficlult...but then v had already informed u guys in d admissions thread tht d locations for gdpi will depend upon d number of people applying frm in and around tht place..hw can it b practical for the institute to arrange for a gdpi in a city frm where very few ppl hav applied/been shortlisted??the institute has already mentioned that only if there is a need and only if there are many students , they will think of having other places as centers. ..so jus try 2 think frm d insti's point of view
n lemme make it clear..bim is not biased towards south indians...not at all...plz read sharan's/divya's posts to clarify things on this

Please refer the placement report 2010 available in BIM website.
Adding to what Divya and swetha have said let me state that we have just finished our Summers Placement process. I find that there has been no bias of any sort towards or against anyone. Everyone have got what they liked and deserved. BIM has quite a few north indians who get along well with students of other regions and live together as a family. This is not at all an issue.
