Hi prsnn_nrynn
Having spent two years here in BIM, I can proudly say that two best years of my life have been the ones in BIM. Coming to the point of people preferring other colleges over BIM, I would like to tell you that BIM has been doing consistently well all the years. In spite of the downturn last year, BIM was able to achieve 100% placements which so many other colleges (apparently preferred over BIM) were able to achieve. According to the Wall Street Journal rankings, BIM has been ranked the 14th among the Top Government aided B-schools in India. You can have a look at it (. There could be one reason that BIM does not want to advertise itself and make the value based education it provides, a business. The BIM family believes and works on the values that have been nurtured and imbibed over the past 25 years and everyone right from the 1st batch to the 26th batch is proud of it.
Regarding the interview locations, the locations have been fixed by the observation over so many years. Depending on the trends in the number of participants from various locations, it is finalized, and the school cannot fix up too many locations due to some operational difficulties. Moreover Chennai is pretty well connected by railways as well as airways. So we request you to take the trouble of coming down to Chennai which would be a more feasible option than Trichy. If there is any help you need in terms of changing the dates of your GD/PI, the college is anytime ready to find a solution to your problem (if it is genuine).
Coming to the issue "f BIM wants to restrict the entrants only to south," it is definitely a BIG NO for that. The process of selection is done taking the mix of students into consideration. The selection panel has some of the renowned and experienced people in the field of management, and favoritism or discrimination is definitely not in the values of BIM. The atmosphere in BIM is very professional and is conducive to make every individual into a full fledged industry ready professional.
Hope this post has helped you.
I looked in the brochure about company visited the campus for placement and what I found is that BHEL is not one of them. Seniors, can you explain it please ? Why BHEL didn't come even BIM is running at BHEL complex itself ?

i totally agree with divya has to say...bim has given us more than what v hav asked for...excellent placemnts, faculty and other resources.. and by no means is BIM biased towards south...v hav quite a good number of noth indians here and all of them have a high regard for this institute...
and as for travel problems...well yes i agree it mite b difficlult...but then v had already informed u guys in d admissions thread tht d locations for gdpi will depend upon d number of people applying frm in and around tht place..hw can it b practical for the institute to arrange for a gdpi in a city frm where very few ppl hav applied/been shortlisted??the institute has already mentioned that only if there is a need and only if there are many students , they will think of having other places as centers.
..so jus try 2 think frm d insti's point of view
n lemme make it clear..bim is not biased towards south indians...not at all...plz read sharan's/divya's posts to clarify things on this
Hi,

Hi Puys,
I am a BIM 26th batch student. Quite surprising to see a stray comment to make such off the mark observations on BIM.
I am completing my first year at BIM..except for the issues on infrastructure, I wud not agree a bit on what the post reads. And that too, we may not have a colossal structure to boast off, but have decent air conditioned classrooms with all features that a premier b-school is expected to have..
Most of the other queries have been addressed earlier.
Power cuts are a routine throughout the state with load shedding happening for 2-3 hours everyday at prescribed time. The management had arranged for ups backup for internet connectivity a couple of months back.
And work for complete backup of power through dedicated generator for hostel is expected to be carried out during our summer vacation. So hopefully power cuts should not be a problem from next year.
Well, BIM offers all oppurtunities to learn and develop and it is imperative on the students to utilise the resources. If candidates are of misplaced belief that a mere admission into BIM will guarantee a 8lac plus job, they need to think again.Serious effort need to be put in coursework, active participation in classes, learning from groupwork and utilising the resources(many are even unaware of the rich subscriptions the institution makes ).
We have had excellent summers and executive placements this year and the report should be out sometime soon.
Partiality thing is all crap, ppl..What you do is how you are evaluated and not from where you come..why has BIM been attracting ppl from everywhere year after year?
Give a discerning thought about how the institution has stood the test of time and proving itself through the placement track record even during the dullest of times..
Feel positive and focus on cracking the GD/PI..Good luck to the shortlisted candidates..all the best
I am Conan from the 26th batch of BIM.
This post is for all those who are having doubts as to whether to join BIM or not.
First of all, it is one of the finest institutes in the whole country. Well, to support it with figures, we have had 100% placements right from the day BIM was started which several other institutes(claiming to be better than BIM) have struggled to achieve in the last few years. I am reiterating on what Ramya said cos these are real facts.
We have subscriptions to several online databases which many other B schools envy.
Our students have been winning several competitions across the country on a regular basis, which is an indication of the fact that students are encouraged to participate in events conducted by other B schools.
And with regard to the GD/PI venues as Ramya had mentioned earlier, it would be tough for the college to arrange for venues when applicants from such locations are in small numbers.
And last, about the so called South Indian bias, it is absolutely CRAP. There is no such thing as a regional bias. There are several North Indians studying here and I am pretty sure none of them so far have complained of any such bias.
BIM has an emotional touch for all of us, with the kind of environment that it has provided and this was evident from the recently concluded farewell for our seniors.
BIM is a B school and it is one of THE BEST in the country and there is no doubt about it.....
Hi partha591,
I can totally understand your anxiety regarding the issue that has been raised. There is one thing that all of us have to understand, for any person coming and getting accustomed to a new atmosphere is difficult and takes time. The amount of time it takes is different for different people. Most of the north indians find it very difficult to get adjusted initially but then slowly they start getting into the system. The institution makes sure that right from the food everything is made in such a way that everyone in the institute is taken care of in the proper way. One reason for Mr. Nithyanand's views is that the time that he takes to get adjusted to this environment is much more than the others, which is justifiable from his angle. But those opinions cannot be generalized.
The point on exams, placements being biased cannot be taken into consideration because the rules framed for exams and placements are totally unbiased. The management has an equal mix of both north indians and south indians and there is no room for bias. As i said BIM runs on values and it definitely holds high regard for all the values that have been nurtured.
One cannot expect to find the social life to be as colorful and fun filled in Trichy as it would be in a metro. There are some compromises that one would have to make for the quality education that is being provided here in BIM. But to make up for it the institution sponsors for so many events like dance competition, cricket tournaments to ensure that the work life balance is maintained.
Regarding the campus, BIM has strong relationship with BHEL which is the reason for BIM staying in BHEL campus. Also BHEL is proud of sponsoring their campus for BIM. So the issue of having its own campus does not arise.
Ok seniors..What ever you said may have some valid point...
But please clarify this one... You said -not many students from north India are applying ,so the centers are only from South....But it also may be true that because of this attitude of BIM towards non-south students many students dont prefer it... Please note that "Less applications from north India may be an EFFECT ,not a CAUSE"....
Out of 914 shortlisted candidates atleast 200 must have been far from Tamilnadu, so they should have arranged atleast one or two metro cities other than south. KJ Somaiya is also an southern institute, but many non-south students are opting for that,, It's having centers in Kolkata & Delhi.. If BIM is an institute of same repute why are they not eyeing BIM..
One more request,,, We had got the opinion of Mr Nityananda... I think he must have some valid points if not all... So can some other north Indian senior come forward and help us about the facts...
How can an Institute of 25 years of glorious record dont have its own campus...??? This's the most dubious question.... What is the administration doing for such a long time....!!! This's very much questionable....
Thank you......
Folks,
The earlier comments on the state of affairs at BIM are entirely baseless and cant be substantiated.
One of the pertinent achievements that any B school can talk about are its placements - that happen not only in the current year but also the legacy of placements that an institute has been churning over several years.
BIM has been having the privilege of producing 100% placements right since its inception.
It would not be fair to give an institute, which would be celebrating its 25th year, such a raw deal based on the insane comments posted by a stray user.
The placement report for Executives 2010 as well as for Summers 2010 would be uploaded in the website within a couple of days.
Friends,be patient. The placement report would speak volumes of the achievement of BIM and its students.
Take a breath and do a self evaluation on the performance of BIM and you would then realize as to why BIM has still been attracting the best of students and companies for the past 25 years!!!
Till then, prepare well for ur GD/PI..
All de best..Be cool...
BIMmites rock as usual!!!:cheerio::cheerio:
cheers

Hi all aspirants
First of all congratulations to all of you to have got shortlisted for admission to BIM.
there has been a lot of discussion going around issues in BIM..
I would like to throw light on what happens out here..
1. Favouritism ? Common guys ..
I am from GOA I am not a South Indian..and I am the Class Representative of my section
The other Class representative is Ankit Bhargava a dude from Rae Bareily.Uttar Pradesh again not a South Indian.
Failing and low CGPA's are directly related to performance of the student..
I have never failed and my CGPA is pretty decent.
2. There has been no issue of college building and this college has been functioning in the same BHEL campus for the last 26 years..
The mess food is decent. The issue is when you start comparing to home made food.. Compare it with other college mess food and i would say its much better..Good representation of North Indian Dishes..
3 About Faculty we have some of the best faculty in here..Two of our faculty have received the prestigious Dewang Mehta Best Faculty award in Finance and HR last year. Professor Venkatesh Athreya is the best person you can have in Economics.
4. The issues of arrears and placements are personal. Directly related to the performance of individual student. The issue raised earlier i think is out of sheer frustration..
5. The BIM Bangalore program has been suspended and there is no issue of funds being transferred etc..
6. I think all Indians are welcome to BIM we have a very good rapport with everybody out here..we celebrate HOLI, MATKA PHOD, GANESH Chaturthi Diwali with the same enthusiasm as Pongal and Ugadi.
I have seen many places in India have more than 4 years experience in the corporate world in Ahmedabad Kolkata Mumbai Jamshedpur..
Studied in NIT Rourkela.
I have never felt left out or an outsider to this place.
Its more of how you approach and what your attitude is.
So all my friends from all parts of India we are having a very good time out here.
Instead of discussing some non issues arising out of frustrations of somebody let us focus on the GD PI process..The purpose of this thread is about letting you guys know about the GD PI process and any issues you have regarding that.
Let me know if you have any queries regarding GDPI or you can call the admissions office directly at 0431-2520502 and 0431-2520796 and speak to Geetha Madam regarding requests for change of dates..
If any of you guys want to speak to me on GD PI issues pls send me a PM.
Ill let you know my Email id and phone number.
Regards
Abhinav Apte

Hi Seniors,
It is very kind of you to help us all in the middle of your busy schedule. I appreciate it. I got through GD/PI stage last year but was not able to convert the call. And I am hellbent to convert it this time. But I have some serious concerns now.
I respect the experience and good work that has been put forth by faculty of BIM in imparting quality education to its students.I am perceptive enough to understand that the infrastructure of an institution has nothing to do with the education it provides. I very well know that BIM is a great platform for students to exhibit their managerial skills (which was misunderstood previously as work done by students for BIM) and it depends on the student to maximise the utilisation of resources provided to him. I recognize the very common but unfounded concern of north indian students about BIM as being a south biased institution and do not make a big deal of it.
But I do not understand one thing. Who is this Nityanand (I tried to find him in BIM 26 batch profile but in vain). Does he belong to BIM 25 or 26? Why is he acting alone in seclusion and talks ill of his alma mater. Why isn't there a single authoritative voice of BIM that proudly shouts the virtues of the school. Every year I see a spoilsport in BIM threads in pagalguy that defames 25 years of excellence. Why is not the institution giving clear answers
I have deep faith in the education provided by BIM and more than that in sharing a sense of camaraderie with my fellow mates in BIM. I hope that is availed more in a small batch than in a big batch where most of Indian B-schools lack including our coveted IIMs. And it is partly a reason for me to come back to my roots and learn management through academic rigours. But it is not possible for everyone to have the emotional maturity to understand it because many people may come here without exactly knowing what they are upto. If I find myself in a soup after coming to BIM, I would need some caring shoulders to cope me up and bring back liveliness in my life. Do not strip that responsiblity as individuals' mindset. It is as much the duty of brethren of academic community to instill optimism in life as to enjoy the learning spirit. Isnt there any counselling service if students get frustrated with the tiring schedule of B School life. Please do not give politically correct replies. We need the truth.
