[2010-12] Discussion thread for TISS HRMandLR GDPI call getters

zain imfy Says
Maybe coz they know all of us would most probably be coming with well prepared answers :P

that may be a reason but i feel as one panel has to interview close to 30 -40 people a day and as everyone will be giving gyan only about y hr nad y tiss they must be gettin bored hearing gyan all the time so may be for a change they wont ask u that they will some other things related to it.thats my opinion though
I am not sure if they have read it earlier or no but i am pretty sure that they could not have read it that day.
When the post lunch interview session started I had seen a lady taking in some 10-15 DAF forms and immediatley after that the next person was called in so dont think they had time to go throught it also few people were initailly assigned to a particular panel and then moved to a differnet one as that panel was clearing up faster dont think both panels woudl have got time to read it that day. it may happen that they must have scrutinised it earlier before 15th march

they read details like my address ,place i am from and where i am working etc from my DAF. waht i meant was i dont think they would have time to read our essays , they just go through ur DAF upar se

The DAF wasnt read before.Just before we entered the cordinating lady gave them our DAF and they went through while asking questions.

There is no proper protocol for conduction of interview, they may ask you about acads and they may even leave it.
They were going through the marksheets attached wid the DAF and asked arbitarily anything from it.
I am from CSE background they asked me what is object oriented programing and why is it called so?

guys,
please shift the GDPI discussion to this thread:

seniors, a query,

Is there individual sectional cutoffs for gd and pi like they have in IRMA.
please clarify.

wat is d use of new thread, we can hav gd/pi experiances here itself.

I don't think they will have sectional cutoffs they haven't mentioned anything in the brochure.

Damn Mamata Banerjee, I missed my train. Found out too late that the train on which ive travelled umpteem times, now departs in the morning instead of evenings 😞 Now i have an easy choice to make between the more difiicult or the more expensive option

i had my pi on 17 march...first the takeways for the ppl who are in the queue ....dont let the stretched period unnerve you..just chill out ..its easy said than done..i gree as i had a tough time myself...in case study they will give quite a general thing in whic everyone can speak,,as one can do without any much prep...funda on csr, inclusive growt, developing nations n ed nations etc...in pi..god i knwo how badly i messed it up..it went for abt 10 ~ 15 min for me max..tell me at ur work eprofile n ur ed ackgrnd...then y hr in diff ways n form...though i answered these basic questions in a very shabby way even though i could do far better...wish all ppl good luck.
do not mess the pi the way i did...its a huge turn off for urslef...

I had my TISS HRM-LR GDPI on 16th march at 10 am. :D

The case study was about an unprofessional series of emails between a new female graduate lawyer and a retired criminal defense lawyer who had hired her for his firm. We had to identify the mistakes of both people and then decide the damage done to the girl's career and the lawyer's firm.

It went off well because there were only 7-8 people in the group. My performance was ok. :)

My PI was stress filled and lasted a good 25-30 min. No questions on acads even though I'm a CSE engineer of 09 batch without any work-ex

I cannot remember the exact sequence of the interview because it basically consisted of questions from my answers. I would advice people having interviews in subsequent days to be really thorough with whatever they have written in their DAF. The interview generally starts from there. :)

Then brush up HR basics - functions in an organisation, meaning and role of HR consulting, HR in Indian IT firms, labour/trade unions etc.

Be very solid about your answer to "Why HR" and "Why TISS". They will grill you about your answers.

For any more queries, PM me. Try to get inputs from seniors at TISS, they are very very helpful, esp. Harshad, Anvesh, Anurag etc.

All the best!!

I went for GDPI (HRM and LR )today.I was in 11 AM batch reached at 10 AM GD started by 11.Case study was basically "unethical ways of collecting information from children through the internet."(just a conclusion what was it all about)
PI was at 1PM Panel no.3
I could see everybody coming out within 10 minutes,Maximum I saw was my friends PI which took 15 minutes so I was worried a lot.
They were asking me about my field (biomedical) I answered everything then they asked me why HR when you are so good at your field?
I linked my long term goals with HR and how HR can be used in technology.
Then they asked me in short you want to be a entrepreneur, why didn't you apply for SE(social entrepreneurship) then?
I was like :o
I told them "I didn't knew about SE while applying" (Biggest mistake, I should have had explained what is entrepreneurship and how is HRM more logical for me than SE)
Asked me Why not MS/ME from US/INDIA? Why not work? I explained them.
Then they asked some questions relating to the community I belong.
Then they said "Thank you"
I feel I was too precise in what I said and should have had spoken more.I didn't speak much as I wanted to.
My verdict :
Be Yourself (don't fake )
Be sure you make your points in a PI before time runs out.
Tip : Panelist don't agree to your points most of the times,be sure you stick to your point if it is right and try to explain them why is it right for you.

hi all
had my gd pi on 17th march 11 am
reached 10.45 and the gd started at 11.10

CASE STUDY:
7 people
20 min
5 min for thinking and 15 for discussion
everyone participated and overall a good gd

general idea about the case - there is this company x. it is going to launch a product in the asian market for the first time but due to some last minute demands of the customer, the company had to do some changes in the production unit and as a result the quality of the product suffered.

now there is a chance that if this substandard product is launched in the market it might fail and thus the company will have to suffer huge losses and their reputation is at stake .

so the question is what should the company do
-let the customer know about the quality of the product not being upto the required standard
-just go ahead and take the risk of launching a substandard product
-delay the launch
-or anything else

gd pi exp 20-03-2010

gd was a case study on organizational dilemma.....women are performing better than men in a bpo..data entry job...profitability is higher if only women are hired...the hr head thinks it is unfair to recruit women only...what should he do..?

pi---panel 3...m1,m2,m3(was checking the daf continuously)
1.insights on rural india..m1
2. hr head of future group...m2
3. do you know about a post that only future group has? was not aware...its chief belief officer.m2
4.organizational structure at future group...m2
5.told to elaborate on that..m2
6.why not work n gain exp?..m2
7.why shift from a diff field to hr?...m2
8. which is more difficult to manage..top mgmt or people working on the shop floor?...m2
did not manage top mgmt..always thought them to b the most difficult to manage as ego probs usually crop up...the shop floor guy i have managed without any difficulty...they only need to b shown a clear path..i think they wanted to hear that shop floor guys are more difficult to handle...
9. then how does an organisation function efficiently..?..m2
10. if this is the problem..how will you go about solving?..m2

m2 asked m1 ..if he had any questions?...he politely refused..

If any of you guys have the names of the faculty in panel 3 on 20th march ..pls let me know...or only their profile will do..need to know if someone from social work was present.

Don't know how much is it going to help as someone rightly said earlier that there is no set pattern for the interview. But be sure of whatever is there in the DAF including your parents profession.

17th March, 9:00 AM

GD - It was a simple case study on the dilemma faced by a HR manager of a local plant being set up in a village. He has the option of outsourcing the non core functions like security & canteen etc. but is facing a lot of opposition from the trade unions & local parties. They want him to employ people on the payroll of the company. What should he do?

It was a good discussion though we finished in only 10 mins.

PI - Panel of 3 including Prof Mulla.

Woah!! I am seriously a transformed & a tranquil person now (post the TISS experience)

It revolved around my father's profession (Min of Railways). Though i am not satisfied as i knew much more than what i actually said but it definitely was not bad.

P1: Questions were like:

Problems faced by Railways?
3 things that i will do as an HR manager in the Railways?
Should Mamta bring a white paper on Lalu's claims?
Should Railways be privatized? (It came from P3 i guess)

I wasn't cross questioned on anything. They took whatever i said.

Only one question on my work ex.

What is the drawback of the core activity that i am into?
I counted on all the positives but couldn't come up with any drawback.
I told him that i wasn't able to recall any negatives at that moment. He was OK with it.

I have 2.5 years work ex, so Prof Mulla asked why did i not apply all this while?
I told him that i was just 19 when i graduated & wanted to work before i went for Masters as i wasn't sure of what specialization i wanted to pursue. Again no cross questions :-o

I think this is where i could have proved my passion for HR & TISS but i don't know why i let that opportunity go out of my hands.

No standard why HR, why TISS?

But something very unique happened in the interview which is troubling me since that day. P1 gave me a feedback at the end of it, i mean on his own. Very very sweet of him. It was all very good & mostly on my conduct during the interview. I was offered Nimbu Paani as well.

After this he came out of the room & told me and another girl (who also had a great interview) that we were outstanding in the interview.

I seriously don't know what the result would be but i am sure that TISS is the place where i would want to be.:)

Cheers & good luck to you all:cheers:
