Quoting two experiences of fellow puys from GD-PI discussions threads, so as to place all experiences in one thread. I hope it is not a spam :D
Hi Guys,
I have attended GD/PI in bangalore on 01-Mar-2011 at 1:30 PM slot. The whole process was conducted smoothly with no hiccups. Everyone in our slot (13 ppl) was present at 1:30 and we were asked to come to a conference room. The panel consist of two men. One is a marketing professor in GIM (around 45) and another man was around 65. The first man did almost everything and the second man is a silent observer. Our batch was give the topic "Governance in India have reached a new low". Two minutes were given to gather our points and each one of us were asked to speak for two minutes. Then the real battle begins, which is the discussion. It went for around 20 minutes with each guys try to impress the panel with their point of view. 😁 At the end of the well debated discussion, each one of us were asked to summarize it in a sheet given to us. Five minutes were alloted for summarizing. The whole GD process went for around 1 hour.
The GD was followed by the much feared PI. Many were tensed at what could happen here, will it be a stress interview? All the fear was allayed in just 10 minutes as the guy who went first told us that it is just a normal qn-ans type interview. My turn came at around 4:30 pm. I was asked the following qns:
1. Why MBA? 2. Tell me about your work ex. (2yrs of exp in Indian IT MNC) 3. What is your job profile 4. where do you see yourself 5 yrs down the line. Then he asked 10 yrs down the line. 5. About my education background 6. He asked about my father's business (I told that i am very much interested in doing business...so he asked few qns on that)
In our batch most of the guys were having work ex. I think only one guy is a fresher. None were asked to show or submit any documents? Took all the original certs but of no use.
The results will be published in the 1st week of April. Congrats to all the call getters. I know my chance of converting is almost void as my XAT percentile is very low. But had a decent GD followed up with fantastic PI. Anyways, i cherish this moment as i got few good friends during the GD/PI and had a fantastic time.
Hi I had my GD/PI at Kolkata 1:30Pm SLot My details XAT 98.23%ile X - 80.6 Xii - 82.5 Work Ex 2+ yrs in IT (TCS)
The GD was on topic "2G Scams & S-Band Scam are inevitable in an economy which is trying break out of shackles" We were 12 in the group. As usual, they had asked us to make an opening statement and then a closing statement. And in between , it was an open house. After the GD concluded we had to write and essay on the GD topic It was followed by the interview. My number 6th so had to wait for sometime. Each had their interview for about 15mins.then I had my turn & I went it
P1:Introduce yourself Me:blah blah..... P2: Why do want to do an MBA... Me: blah... blah.. P1: Questions on Work Ex..Questioned on the Insurance domain for which I am working... Me:blah blah.. In the mean time P2 picked up my file and started grazing thru it. P2:Asked abut my Hobbies... Me: Spoke.... P1 to P2 then spoke with themselves..and said to me Your are through..
It was about 12 to 13 mins only..
I am nervous...http://cdn.pagalguy.net/pagalguy/smilies/shocked.gif
Just to add , they do not ask me for my XAT score card nor the Folder containing my certs. It had been asked to others in my batch and not me. Don understand why ? Maybe when they saw my 80.02 score in XAT, my fate was already sealed, and they had made up their minds of not selecting me. 😞 😞 (i hope its not the case) Also one thing i noticed was one of the panel had put an alarm of 15 mins. (When this alarm rang, my interview was ended)
GD-PI date/Venue - 4th March 2011, Goa Nivas, New Delhi
XAT percentile - 87.01% 10th - 85 12th - 73.6 B.Tech - 72 Work-ex - 29 months as of now.
GD Topic was - "2G Scams & S-Band Scam are inevitable in an economy which is trying break out of shackles" Had 5 people in the group and the process went on very smooth. Though some voices were raised but overall everyone was very cordial in the group. Once two guys got stuck in "pehle aap" - "pehle aap" situation and there was a silence of 3-4 secs. I jumped in between
Then came interview. I1,I2 -> interview panel Me :splat:
I1- So give us your introduction. Me- zoommmmm zoooomm ... crap crap.... bla bla
I2-So you are like a butterfly who jumps from one flower 2 other (was pointing on my 3 company in 29 months heroics ) Me- explained.
I1-But then you will again have to move to Goa if you are shortlisted. Me- crap crap...bla bla
I1- So what were your job responsibilities in these companies? Me - explained each one in detail.
I2- Which according to you is better amongst three? Infact rank them. Me- ranked them according to my experience.
I2- You ranked them as per your perception. How would a layman rank them. All three are world class MNCs. Me- Tried to answer.
I2- So you are from software/hardware? Me - told.
I2- It took you 30 months to figure out that you don't like tech job. You could have talked to your HR about that. Me- As per my qualification, tech job is the only one which I would be eligible of. And moreover thats why I want to do MBA. I would move into middle level or higher level management which involves less of technical stuff and more of managerial stuff.
I2- So what area you want to work upon? Me- told.
I1 kept on making some notes and peeping into my XAT scorecard and again looking at me and again noting down something.
Scanning through my folder I2 glanced on my summer training certificate and asked a surprising question :splat::splat::splat: I2- You must have made merry during your entire summer training Me- Noo gave some funda :splat:
I2- You are lucky enough to have worked in top most 3 companies at such an early stage of your career. All the best :) In my folder there was written a quote - "The way is not in the sky.. The way is in the heart". Seeing this I2 tried to frame a question but failed I sensed he wanted to understand the meaning of that which I obliged him to :)
Everyone was interviewed for about 20-25 minutes but mine lasted only 10 min :splat:
Keeping my fingers crossed and all the best to everyone.
Don't wanna discourage you, dude. But a similar thing happened in my slot too. On an average PIs were going on for around 20-22 minutes in our slot. But, a dude with 78%ile & 3 years work-ex came back from his PI in 10-odd minutes.
This was the last question. Not too hopeful... made many mistakes in the PI 😐 Bhagwan Bharose ab..
Best of luck puys !! 😃 tc
Name: Ricky :shocked::splat:
GOD... I was mentally murdered... Have no hopes at all.. ATB to everyone.
Hey, Reiterating the fact that your interview time doesn't decide your confirmation .And also, not giving answers to many things doesn't mean that you are screwed. I think many of you have work ex and would have appeared for many interviews before. You would have seen the scenario where you all say " Iska kaise hogaya" or " Iska Kaise nahin hua" .SO the point is you can never come to the conclusion that whether you are In or not.You never know what an interviewer is looking in your.May be when you are not answering questions properly but trying to figure out and giving answer an interviewer may think that the person has the ability to think rationally and have good IQ(IQ is diffr from your knowledge).
Also, you are comparing yourself with the people who have posted their experiences here.Around 25 people out of 900 people or so who have given interviews till now.You never know how was interview for the rest.So chilll So,don't worry about whether you are IN or not.And concentrate on other calls you have.Don't go with mindset that you didn't do well in GIM,so you will not do well in xyz.
Don't lose hope.Do well in other calls. And wait for GIM results

GD Topic:Is Demographic dividend, in India, an outstretched idea ? :splat::o We were nine people in the group. They decided to arrange GD for 9 people together. The other 10 people in group 3 were divided in to two groups of 5 each. The topic was a bouncer but thankfully one of the guys asked the moderators what the topic actually meant. So finally we all were relieved after getting details. So the moderators gave 30 seconds to each of us to have a say on the topic. So everybody gave a 30 seconds starting sentence on the topic. Then the GD went on very smoothly because i think people did not have much to say on the topic so everybody was getting turns to speak.I was the third person to chip in with few points .Overall people raised good points & the junta in the GD was very cordial. No fish market at all. Then everybdoy was asked to make a concluding remark on the topic. Now the order of speaking got reversed(the person who spoke first in the opening sentence was given the last chance to conclude) Then we had to write an essay (kind of synopsis)on the GD topic of about 200-250 words in 5 minutes. The moderator said that the essay would be a kind of eliminator if one doesnt write it well.
All in all a good experience thanks to the guy who asked the moderators about the details of the topic because as I got to know afterwards that the other groups did not have any clue about the topic & still discussed whatever they could PI:Before my PI i heard that even work-ex guys were being asked about academics and all. Moreover the panel was looking at the folders which they brought with them & cross-questioned them about the low scores/grades.:o But for me nothing of this sort happened. The panel P1 consisted of a professor(old age) who looked somewhat like director Sudhir Mishra & another person P2 p2:tell me something about yourself? me:gave me ample time to speak so much so that i got bored of speaking p2:Whats ur job profile..What does ur company do.. me :answered p2:Who are the main competitors. me:told. p2:Whats the difference between your company & the competitors. me:told p2:any hobbies? me:told p1 interrupts & says :Which book you last read & any learnings me:told. p1:do you read news papers? me:I said I read but im not an avid reader. But yes I read it regularily. p1:sarcastically: that means u read it only when somebody persuades you to read. me:I said no I read it but somewhat selectively.Like some current political happening, or a major economic happenings & ofcourse sports. p2:Did u watch yesterday's match? me:ofcourse sir p2:So whats ur say on yesterday's match result. me:I said there was nothing to seperate the two teams & in the end it was a good result because both teams played well in patches.I said something about mental aspects of the game. P1 interrupts:that means games are won only by having strong mental disposition?not by training & hardwork:banghead: me: I said that hardwork is equally important but at this level i believe all the eleven players are talented enough to represent the nation but the unit which is mentally stronger would sail through in the rest of the tournament. p2:nods P1:doesnt approve the idea rather says to excel one needs only to work hard without using mind games me :I tried to convince him & soon he almost agreed because P2 agreed I think:cheers: P1:Ok so after MBA you would move to same sector?? Me:gyaan p1:you did well in your 10th & 12th but in Graduation your score is just very average ..isnt it? me:I said it was good as per university standards but there is always scope for improvement..Both looked convinced. Then a bouncer:shocked: P1:You did ur engineering from a State government college..You coudnot get through IIT's ? me:I tried but could not make the cut but that doesnt undermine my potential as a person.Since then I have moved on & doing quite well in my job:cheers:. p1:you told about so many competitors of your company & you missed out on one of major competitor:splat:(xx) Me:oh yes! It slipped out of my mind..But the other name he mentioned was in a different business.P2 nodded and told P1 the same & both looked convinced finally p1:any overseas experience me :told & added some learnings as well p1 &p2; :any questions: me:asked something about marketing in GIM...
Finally both wish me good luck & ask me to send the next guy in .& finally P1 gave me a good nod & for the first time smiled Overall:It was kind of discussions with P1 trying to put some stress .. P2 was co-opertive.What i noticed was the fact that they were very particular about your body language & communication skills. All in all a nice experience lets C how the result goes
hey friend i was also in the same slot in delhi, will u plz confirm me what was your venue, mines was hotel ginger in vivek vihar.
i am asking so bcoz nothing as such happened in my gd what u mentioned, it was an open start in my gd, we all were not given opportunity one by one to open the gd, niether we were asked to conclude the gd, in the end they gave us time to add few points which we were not able to speak in b/w the gd.
so i am in a dilemma that was there any other venue in delhi.
Hey, Reiterating the fact that your interview time doesn't decide your confirmation .And also, not giving answers to many things doesn't mean that you are screwed. the same thing was quoted to us by the panel in the beginning as well that the length of your interview doesnt decide whether you are in or out.
I just quoted like that. I also believe on the same path that it wont matter whether it was 10 min or 30 min. Quality matters 😃
GD Topic: One should not be too Honest. "Straight Tree are cut first". 2 mins to think... ten to discuss.. opening and closing statements from everyone
Discussion was good... Everyone made some valid points... couldnt enter discussion except for opening and closing statements... should have tried harder :-(:-(
Seniors.. One Clarification... panel told us Essay will be kind of used for elimination... my understanding is.. if 2 or more profiles have same final score.. then essay will be used to decide... Please let me if my understanding is correct....
Was the second in line for PI... made a mistake... all guys had tie.. me the lone idiot without one :splat:
PI: Never expected this kind of PI.. No Techni.. No current Affairs.. only HR 2 panelist OG: old aged gentleman MG: middle aged gentleman ME: Myself
MG takes the file as soon as I sit down... looks it over OG: first thing... tell me what is written abt GIM in pagalguy ME: shocked.. collecting my thoughs... told them abt general student experiences and also how the seniors helped aspirants by solving their queries and checking their status during registration process in december and would love to part of GIM... and some gyaan...
MG and OG: Tell me what questions do you expect us to ask you... Me: obviously... Y MBA and Y GIM?... was abt to answer... tld me its ok...
MG takes out my info submitted during registration and asks me another why i changed 2 companies with 3 years... Me: gyaan.. said was not happy.. no scope to do other stuff... so needed change and some gyaan MG cuts me off and says you have 3+ yrs... do another 2 yrs and go for executive MBA in IIM. Me:told him abt how i want to do normal MBA and some gyaan MG: so.. executive is not Normal MBA.. what is normal MBA acc to you? Me: started abt residential program... MG cuts me off and says IIM do offer residentail Executive MBA... Me: tried to give some gyaan abt how 2 yr MBA is best and other stuff... didnt think i convinced him...
MG: back to my job profile... says I wll be missing out on 2 yrs salary... and after graduation I may get liitle more than what I currently make Me: told me the reasons for doing MBA... MG cuts me off and says.. executive is best for me... Me: tried to bring in again the reasons for MBA for 2 yrs MBA... MG stops the discussion.... and asked abt any Goals Me: stated with Entreprenuership... MG cuts me off... laughs and says thats enough
OG: tell me qualities of a manager Me: started explaining them... They both stop me and asked me to tell in bulleted points... told them....
MG: mech to IT.. y? Me: Told them... seems convinced...
They both ask me to take tea and biscuit.. after declining for 4 times... they again ask.. so took a biscuit...
OG: what does honestly mean to you? Me: started with my points to GD... OG:questioned abt my points and asked me will you stay honest no matter the situation... Me: Yes and gave some examples from work exp.... OG: asked me whether you consider this stress interview... Me: no Sir maintained a smiling face through PI even when MG was ripping my points and counteracting with questions.
Interview lasted around 20 min... personally feel.. should have made more points... and tried harder to talk in GD. I know its very difficult to convert the call due to bad GD and low XAT marks... but am an eternal optimist... hoping for good news.
Seniors... Please PM me your views on my PI.
All the best to others who are yet to give GD/PI... dont get nervous... enjoy the experience... Although I did ok... It was one of the most awesome experiences of my life... Hope to have the same in other calls also
Had my interview today... one important news that i would like to share is with every one is ... today in the FAQ round one of the panel member told us that the average package has increased from 7.xx to 8.97 and highest package increased from 12.32 to 16 LPA . Average and Highest package has seen a growth of 30 % . Highest package was offered by goldman sachs...
In my case also... Mod didn't ask me for any docs... though I was grilled, churned, mixed, grinned etc but folder was resting on my lap all the time... my XAT score is also very low... donno wat to expect..!!
Don't wanna discourage you, dude. But a similar thing happened in my slot too. On an average PIs were going on for around 20-22 minutes in our slot. But, a dude with 78%ile & 3 years work-ex came back from his PI in 10-odd minutes.
Hey Rohan, Were you in 1:30 PM batch....YMCA.. in that case I am that dude who got this honorable treatment ... but I suppose that my interview lasted for around 20 mins... and we discussed on a no. of topics...!!
hello puys, had my gd pi in Bangalore on 3rd march 8:30 am .....out of 24 pepole 17 were there and we were divided into groups of 7 and 8 . Topic of GD was Food inflation is beyond governments control . process was same as in other GD's which fellow mates have mentioned ...an opening statement followed by GD followed by closing statement . Essay which has to be written after GD is just to check your written skills and the content doesn't matters much and please don't use bullet points in your essay , write properly framed statements .
Then after GD I had my PI , I was 2nd in my group : My profile : XAT : 84.XX 10th :79.8 12th:71 Grad:79.8 Work Ex : 2.5 yrs in Infy
there were 2 members in interview panel I1, I2
I1 : tell me about yourself me : I tried to focus on my forte which was finance and was successful in doing so as the next 10 min of my PI was on finance and it was a happy go lucky ride for me until then.
After that I was screwed in my Grad Topics (elec and tele) Guys please go thru basics of your grad topics .......
Finally a 18-20 min interview ended on a bad note as i was litreally ripped apart in my grad topics.

also people were screwed a lot on acads .....i saved my self by saying every thing i know in one go........ helped my case ....didn't ask anything after that.
GD Topic: As described by Aman in the previous post
Went ok....
Well....nothing much to talk about my PI so no point writing the whole conversation here
But can give you guys/gals some tips:
DONT AT ALL MENTION ABOUT PG IN YOUR INTERVIEW(totally my take...REST UR WISH)
If you are mentioning something...be it any topic should have your opinion about it and also its relevance to current situations.
Try to be short and concise, Dont force them to ask questions from your strengths (especially work-ex guys....dont emphasize too much on ur work-ex...stick to the basics)
Mumbai Panel is not at all taking STRESS INTERVIEWS....mentioning this because in some of previous posts this was mentioned and I was nervous half of the time regarding dat (since all other panels across cities were quite helpful...so all panels are good....if stress interview happened, will just be a one-off case)
Right now I am out of the race, so best of luck to all the other puys.....
Many people Grilled over acads...so guys be prepared with atleast one favourite subject of yours...Data Structure is one subject which wont take too much long to prepare if u know d basics
My GD PI was scheduled on 4th March at Woodrose Club, Brigade Millenium, Bangalore. Nice place, and special thanks to Hemanth for clearly mentioning which bus to take from Majestic and also suggesting Hotel Aditya opp to BM for lunch/breakfast.
XAT Percentile: 89.31
Profile: 28 months work ex + 9 months internship. Both at a leading MNC 10th: 84.8 12th: 83.2 Graduation: 77 Batch of Interview: 1:30PM
GD Topic: Scams like the 2G scam and S band scam are inevitable in an economy like...something of this sort :-P
Every one did a good job, emphasized on how these scams cannot be termed as merely inevitable, etc etc. We got to know that one of the members in our group was a RJ from one of the radio stations. Did not get to speak to her as had gone out for a coffee and she was the first to be interviewed. But got to know later that she is a RJ. She probably was the best in the GD :-P
PI: Panel consisted on 2 lectures from GIM, Ajit sir and Aishi maam. They we the ones who also conducted the GD.
Aishi Sengupta (ASG) Ajit Parulekar (AP) ME
AP: Asked me to hand over my files to ASG. She started glancing over them.
ASG: We ask everyone this question, tell me something about yourself, so y dont you tell us something about yourself. ME: ....xyz....etc...said all that I had prepared
AP: Being a Computer Engineer, tell me why does a laptop gets heated up in mere 2 hrs while a phone does not get heated up? ME: Explained my ans, he seemed convinced. Said that even the ph gets heated up, its only that its resources get utilised only when you are in a call for a long time, say 2 hrs. Then explained why Laptop gets heated up...
AP: In explain me diff b/n a laptop and a ph (he used the ph which he was carrying) apart from the physical differences. ME: explained
ASG: asked few questions about my extra curriculars ME: answered all of them
ASG: tell me something about your company ME: said, AP counter questioned, answered him as well
ASG: why should we take you, we have so many pple from similar backgrounds ME: explained, and gave my reasons, no counter questions, they seemed saisfied
I have 3 months of US exposure, so AP asked me AP: tell me 2 diff b/n Indian culture and US culture. Apart from their physical appereance. ME: answered. He was convinced.
ASG: asked me why MBA all of a sudden after 2.5 yrs of good exp. ME: answered, they were again satisfied. No counter question
AP: where you see yourself post MBA ME: told that I was looking for a Business Analyst or Management Consultant role. Told that I would like to be associated in the same field.
AP: Hobbies? ME: told
They looked at each other, after a nod, asked me leave. I said that I wanted to add something and gave my suggestion. They were really pleased.
All and all, a very nice and cordial atmosphere, very good and cool interview. Heard that the same panel had conducted a few stress interviews on the same day as well. But for me, it was a very good exp, one that I will cherish for a long time to come.
My advice, be yourself, don't get tensed or excited, keep a happy go lucky attitude and always smile. This helped me, I had a great interview.
And last but not the least, special thanks to all the seniors and people who are posting their experiences. It has helped me a lot and I am also sure that it has helped many people.
GD topic " soap opera adding/contributing to ethnic values "
gd went ok i chipped in twice could have said more.... PI: they asked for xat scorecard. they saw it... i thought they wud grill me (but they seem satisfied) no general questions... straight away asked about my job profile i explained... some technical aspects were asked.. i explained... and it was all over in a flash (gone in 5 mins...) disappointed ....
note: in our batch no general hr question were asked, may be after 6 days of interview they have decide not to do it.. for me they didnt check any certificates.. they might have decided my faith after my gd... all the best to all the fellow call getters and thanks seniors for ur great guidance...
