[2012] Ask ISB Hyderabad/Mohali: Admissions Director AM Kannan answers admission-related questions

I hope I am not repeating this question, but is it true that ISB for its 2013 batch will not consider Integrated Reasoning score?

That is correct.

Hello Sir, trust you are doing good !!

I have been following ISB class of 2013 thread on pagalguy and I see that most applicants had their application verified and interviews started rolling out by 26-28th Sept. Is it going a little slow this time ? I see a lot of fellow pagalguys whose applications are still not verified. I know PG is not the entire sample of applicants to ISB but are we revisiting the interview short list dates for at least Hyd centre?

The verification shall be communicated within 3 weeks of submission as per the note you must have received at the time of application submission. Interviews shall also be as per published schedule - you will appreciate that not everyone can be asked to interview on the first day of interviews.

will the shortlist status be updated on our ISB admissions account as well or just sma and mail will be sent?

Interviews for those based outside India have not commenced yet. This should start around next week and everyone shall receive at least 5 days' notice.

Dear Mr. Kannan,

I have 7+ exp in Telecom and working for an international company in Europe. ISB is very well known internationally regarding its program. But are there also placements for MBA grads outside India?

How do you consider such an international exposure during admission process? How do reckon GMAT scores -do you take average/highest of several scores?

Regards

Has the interview process started? Also how long does one wait to confirm for Hyderabad (location of interview) to consider he/she is not selected? Kindly clarify
Application review is a continuous process till 5th of November. Every applicant will get a notification of 5 days prior for the interview, if short-listed. Interviews are starting this week.

Please review our website for placement information:
International companies recruit ISB's PGP students just as at some other top global MBA programs.
International work experience is valuable if the candidate can demonstrate significant takeaways & learnings from such experiences. By itself, having been posted for an international assignment is not value adding to an application.
If you have multiple GMAT attempts within 5 years then only the highest score is taken into consideration.

No, it is not a requirement to have secured awards in every activity that you have participated in. There are likely interests that are important to you even if you do not win awards at them. We are interested in understanding how you are a well-rounded and engaged person who pursues his/her passions because it is important for you to do so. It is important that you tell us about such interests & why they are important to you in your application.
Planning to Give GMAT somewhere between 16th Nov-20th Nov and apply for Second cycle. However it might take 2 to 3 weeks for the Official results to reach ISB. Should I plan GMAT earlier or the planned date will do?

Dear Mr. Kannan

This is regarding furnishing work-ex details in application.
I have recently been promoted as manager and wanted to showcase it.If i include it as a separate work ex,i would not be able to list out any achievements, as of now. Will it suffice mentioning about it in one of the essays in brief without listing it out as separate experience.

Upload your test centre scores before the deadline date of 30 Nov. You don't have to worry about the official scores reaching us - so long as you have asked GMAC to send them to us.

Would all the interviews for the international applicants (Indian passport holders) happen next week - from 15th Oct to 19th Oct?

Have the invites already started going out for those outside India?

List your experience in your new position mentioning that you have been promoted recently. It seems you would like to tell us about the performance & achievements that resulted in your being promoted. Please write about these in your essays.

We look at several aspects of your application in a holistic manner to determine whether you are a strong candidate. A strong GMAT score can compensate for weaker academics. GMAT scores and academic grades provide us with your ability to handle the academic intensity of our program. There are several other critical aspects of your application that help us determine whether you have the leadership potential, values and attributes that we are looking for. Please do not neglect your essays and interviews to demonstrate your strengths as a candidate.
