Here goes the GD/PI experience of Vineet Jain ( MBA-FT, 2014 Batch )

Name: Vineet Jain

CAT: 99.65
QA: 99.75
VA: 95.15

Grad: 60.04%(Chemical Engineering, Institute of Chemical Technology,
formerly UDCT, Mumbai)

GD: "The Smart Phone War - Android v/s IOS v/s RIM v/s Windows"
Will have to say that this was not the kind of topic I expected.
Technology is actually my blind spot, me not being to tech savy a
person. Had no idea of the differences of these softwares. But made a
couple of globe entries, saying that different companies are just
bringing out minor improvements and charging a bomb, innovation may
have taken a back seat and that the developing world is where these
companies are now trying to focus their attention and the one who
conquers this market will win the war. Was a poor gd for me, as gd is
usually my strength. Had predicted a (3-4)/10
Got 5/10

Extempore and PI - 1 gentleman(G) and 2 ladies(L1 and L2)

Entered and was given the extempore topic by L2: "Big fish often get
the best of everything"
I'm not sure if I had a lot of content, byt I spoke fluently and
confidently. How they percieved this will make or break the game for
me. Had predicted ( 7-8)/10 here
Got 8

They had made a typing error against my name, and the college read IIT
Mumbai. I corrected them saying its ICT Mumbai. It was an awkward
moment, but then one of the ladies said that it was their typing error

L1: What is a JV
Me: Joint Venture
L1: Give an example
Me: Maruti Suzuki
L1: One more
Me: Mahindra Renault
L1: Any more
Me: Can't think of any more
L1: What is a partnership ? How is it different from a JV
Me: I think a partnership is for a longer duration of time, and a JV
could be project specific
L1: So are your examples /jv or partnership
Me: Probably partnership, but i'm not sure
L1: What is strategic alliance
Me: A strategic alliance may be not just between two companies but
also between two countries, for exampla India and Pakistan having an
alliance to foster trade relations to achieve economic development and
friendship
L1: So do you work
Me: Yes, at Ernst & Young, Climate Change and Sustainability
Services(dont think they got the division clearly)
G: So how does EY do financial modelling. what are the parameters
you'l consider
Me: Sir we look at balance sheets, financial statements, reputation of
the firm etc
G: And what else
Me: I dont know, I am not from finance, I am from Climate Change and
Sustainability
L1: Oh ok, define sustainability
Me: Told
G: Who was the Indian climatoligist who won the nobel prize
Me: Mr. R.K. Pachauri
G: What was the controversy surrounding him ?
Me: He was accused of hyping the climate change theory and
exaggerationg the projections
G: There was also an audit conducted on him ?
Me: Ii am not aware
G: Do you know any models to measure climate change
Me: Climate change projections made are 2-6 degrees based on the
current GHG emissions, dont know any specific models
L1: What will happen if 1% of the north pole melts
Me: Many low lying areas and countries could be submerged under water
L1: Ok we're done, which other converts
Me: MDI and IIM L(abm)

Greetings n left. Again was confident and had a good body language.
Spoke well whenever I spoke. Lots of 'I don't know' moments though

I have no idea how the JV n all came up. Was pretty surprised, was
expecting some questions about myself, got none
Predicted a 6/10
Got 9

Verdict: Converted Rank 47
Many many people with better percentiles than mine got rejects and
many with lower percentiles were ahead of me in the final list. Goes
to show that GDPI is the real deal!

Key points: Confidence and fluency is the key. If you have a good
extempore, you're as good as in, irrespective of how many objective
questions you answer correctly in the PI. If they see a spark in you,
they pick you.
A bad GD has no implications on your selection or rejection. If you
have a good GD, its a bonus. But even if you don't know much about the
topic, you must get in 2 fluent entries at least

@awesomeusername Thanks for sharing this interview experience.... If such an interview fetched rank 47 with 99.65%ile.....its not difficult to estimate the sheer competition with a,b,c results not out till date of interviews this time..............Honestly even after attending 2 interviews at this moment of time...I could not answer any question satisfactorily of this interview experience....
@hk123 - i know dude...i tried answering some questions. Even in a mock situation, i couldnt come up with proper answers.....
phew...

fms waitlist movement maybe 120-150 this time

when will they announce the dates??????

@awesomeusername I think only strategy which can work here is to make an effort that the interviewers focus more on what you know.....rather what you don't..................
By the way can you comment on my chances at 99.54 percentile....Someone told me as we go above 99.3% the score v/s percentile curve takes sharp turn and more skewed ....
@hk123 : urm...cant really comment man...all i can say is that a slightly above average performance(around 21-22) should get you through...although seniors have advised against going with some pre-conceived notions...

Checking the mails, fms home page every five mins.... need the dates, need to book tickets sirs...

Hello everyone! Its good to be back here 😃 You can find more experiences on last years gdpi experience thread. If anyone feels I can be of any assistance to them, hit me up here or on PM and I will try and help out! Cheers

@awesomeusername @vineetjain111 my score is 99.03 grad from bits pilani worked for 34 months at ntpc.. will it boost my pi scores by any chance? and wat are my odds? should i be hoping a convert? 😃

PS: i know people bug u with such questions but all the talk about the score taking a major precedence over other factors in selection has put me off :D
@Eye I am gonna have to take a flight :banghead: from mumbai  paise jaise paani ki tarah beh rahe hain :(

plz declare the short-list,......kyon humare flight ticket ki price badha rahe ho...

P.S.- March mein chutti mango to Manager aise dekha jaise meine uski ek KIDNEY maang li ho. :onfire:
