General Category: Live with it. There's nothing you can do about it. To those who got through, feel proud that you were successfully able to beat one-sixth of the world's population. To those who didn't, well I can empathize with you. You will either excel elsewhere, or nail the CAT later!

Why do you not think that you have your own level ground to prove your worth among intellectuals who have had the same family background.4th- People with work-ex should not be preferred. Now you are making an argument which would seem absolute rubbish to someone who knows that anyone with 3 years work ex is much more suited to an MBA course and this is proven by the fact that you cannot compete even to get in an MBA course in US with less than 3 years work-ex.5th- Reservation does not divide people anywhere. This divide has caused reservation to exist. Also IIMs do try to gauge people's opinions about it in PIs and biased people, people who are likely to be a cause of friction, are not admitted mostly.6th and 7th- Well you might find cases where reservation benefit seems to be unnecessary but then we have this huge task of identifying such people and if you have some credible way doing it, please try and convey it to Government of India. But with this fact established that reservation is necessary, it doesn't really matter if 1% of cases are of misuse. I'm quite sure you would have done something or the other in life( being in India) which was this case of "misuse" of a benefit meant for someone else.Lastly- Hope someday everybody in this country would be equal with similar type of family conditions available to them and a chance of a life where they can fight on a level playing field with regards to intellectual capabilities.One last advice my friend- Try and gauge the reasons for existence of something when it has been put in place by much more eminent people than yourself (read Dr. B.R. Ambedkar), it will give you a chance of thinking like them and develop your perspective.
Speaking of reservation, I know a girl studying in one of the IIM ABC and taking FULL advantage of the reservation by getting selected there. I ll tell u how. She has worked in TCS for 2 yrs so money was not a huge problem. But looking more closely She belongs to a well off family celebrating pretty normal events like New yr or christmas outside INDIA with her family. when she has leaves, she visits places like singapore australia. This is all done dispite having 14 lacs+ fees of the insti. CAN ANYBODY TELLME WHY SOMEONE LIKE HER NEEDS RESERVATION??

Look my friend, there are a lot things that we want to be ideal but they are not. We would ideally like electricity to travel without losses right!!
I know a lot of people who earn upwards of 15 lakhs but file a IT return of less than 2 lakhs. I have several CA friends and trust me it is piece of cake to forge financial documents in this country, way more easier than forging caste certificate. In this system a few creamy get benefit while in that system that number would increase exponentially.

It depends on a person, an SC guy or a GE guy or whoever he is, how he wants to contribute and make his life worthwhile - Being self centered and earning lacs every month and expanding his property, or spend,maybe 1/10th of his earnings every month, to help those children, who have no idea about reservation or its pros and cons, to read and write and become capable of competing among their peers, with the aim of growing and improving.
You should realise that the sole motive of reservation is an overall growth of the country. Lets think a little broad guys !!

Every "WELFARE SCHEME" must have an expiry date. The old wisdom of "THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH" by our forefathers still holds good.
If there is no end to it, that simply means the SCHEME was/is/will be a FAILURE.
P.S.- Come on guys....having/not having reservation..making/not making it to IITs/IIMs...hard working/free-riding..making big money/being stuck in a mediocre job.......how much of all that is going to affect the quality of your life??? Being happy is something completely different. If such things affect ur life...u need to re-evaluate the quality parameters....

Hey...I think that's a very unfair thing to bring up-the girls' reservation issue. Encouraging women's education, empowerment or independence in profession and at home is a necessity in a nation where women are brutalized every 22 mins, and not allowed to get out of the 4 walls of their homes. Please man. Be bigger than this. Don't forget that it is a woman who has given you birth. Reservation for backward classes and women is not one and the same thing. Democracy allows us to voice our opinions yes! But must you misuse it?
On a side note really off topic thread. Better we utilize our time over more imp things at this point than fighting over reservations.

women in india, are equally smart , talented, and hard - working... aren't they? if you cry about opportunities, then those parents who do not want their daughters to study, would not pacified by reservation, they need awareness....

nice topic going on..cmplete gd topic ..now just hoping that get reservation as my topic in gd ..now on some serious note...
for all those general soul (just like me ) whether reservation to anyone is gd or not..we cant decide ..what we can deal with it is deal with it.. we can't fight with it so dnt ...pick ur fight...
reservation helps some and some take advantage of it ...that is just like normal life..ppl take advantage ..let them be..maybe u wont get ur desire college...so what ... ur life wont be determined by these reservation.. its our own life and we will shape it no matter what reservation is there or not... i dnt like it either but have seen some ppl who have nthing becoimg something due to it..... maybe good vs bad ratio is only 20:80 but atleast 20 ppl are taking advantage of it ..they have some hope where everything is against them... i missed some colleges too almost most ... but i knw who i m .. i will do gd with my life i have to ..what is the point discussing abt it here when it isn't going to change anything...

REALITY : Firstly there was only the official reservation 50%. Now IIM's have introduced unofficial reservation for girls and non-engineers.
When the CAT result came out new reporters rushed to the CAT convener and complained that again 9/10 100 percentile-rs are engineers and 8 are IIT'ians. The CAT convener replied "Wait for the entire admission process,then you would know the changes we implemented". ( Read do whatever you can we will throw you out 
).
