@SAMMY88 This is getting really annoying now. Let's just keep this thread for FMS discussions!
Let me close this topic by my following cent: (I wasn't intending to disclose the following information but it's kind of getting on my nerve now)
I am actually a ST guy. However, I have NEVER used that certificate in my life and never intend to. I could have been an IITian, EASILY.
I scored 97.79 in CAT '12 with 95+ in each section. Correct me if I am wrong, but I could have been sitting in IIM A/B/C/FMS, provided a decent WATPI.
I will NEVER use the certificate simply because I have never been denied any opportunity, I am no different than a general category student.
My brothers have passed out of IIM A and C using the shortcut but I never can, for I would never be able to look myself in the mirror ever again if I did, simply because I have never been denied any opportunity in my life. If you're going to reserve seats, reserve for the economically weaker section.
@SAMMY88 i think first of all u shld read what i wrote... either u didnt understand what i wrote or u have wrongly assumed a lot of thing...
First of all ur reply is very personal..and very rude ..
Did i boast about my ancestor..and for the matter of fact i havent met ppl who boast about their ancestors in these days? seriously do u thing general category student sit together and boast about all these things..... well boasting about anything doesnt fetch marks or any other result...so if u dnt do that gd for u...
and seriously u think absence of honour killing is a bad thing..u r using hounour killing to justify honour.... THERE IS NO HONOUR IN HONOUR KILLING EXCEPT IN THE NAME...plz think before what u r using in ur argument...
well maybe i missed some of my family meeting bcoz other than some normal thing like dnt cheat, dnt hurt other ppl etc..my family didnt pass any other insight or teachings...i dont think it is too much of a secret....
and for ur last part .... if u have internet connection and if u get to go to school and if u haven't been denied any oppurtunity in ur life than yes u start from the same position .....
and while u have such a insight in this topic..what about poor general student?? do they start at the same position ??? .. does boasting about their ancestor will get them gd marks or any job ???

@sachin_nitrkl I have heard that FMS is awesome for Marketing and Finance specializations. What about Operations? I am looking forward to specialize in operations.
You would know NITIE gets the best of Operations profiles in India. FMS as such did not have leagacy of recruiters in Operations. However, over the last 2 years, the number of ops majors has increased substantially and this has reflected in the companies visiting. For eg- Asian Paints opened its operations profile (considered amongst the best in the industry) in the summers for the first time. There have been companies visiting in operations consulting and other brand names include Amazon, Tata steel etc. A number of people with operations work-ex are here and major in operations.
@SAMMY88 "Why does no one with equal force keep on asking for more seats? Why not increase the size of cake rather than complaining about the minor crumbs falling in the hands of backward category." minor crumbs??? wtf r u talking dude! its 50% reservation! "As far as your complaints about government misspending goes, let me kindly inform you that as far as 84 secretaries are there in Union government you find 0 secretaries coming from SC categories. If we have reservations, and if we have been recruiting civil servants on such a basis then how come none of them reach the apex level. How come not a single person among them is qualified enough to take the secretary level position. Is it just a coincidence or is there a Glass Ceiling?" This is just your illusion. If you really work hard in the job that you are given, i'm sure you won't be cribbing about such things. You have to work hard but because of reservation you have forgotten to work hard, laying back relaxed that if i get a 60-85% i will be in an iim. "Whereas if my forefathers were hunting, foraging or manual scavenging,do you still consider the Experience of my forefather will be of any use to me?So Do you think in this race of competition we will start in the same position or will general category students have a head start?" The thing is even your fathers had reservation and you people are getting used to free riding .. Take the example of @sachin_nitrkl and @Nipunkumar who take pride in contesting on the basis of pride and valor and not on free riding...And yes please stop self pity.. i'm from general category and my father is a clerk..(compared to many others who got benefitted coz of reservation and are in a better position) I feel sad coz i didnt get a call from any of the older iims despite scoring 99.3..but still i'm confident that i'll make my father proud(by genuine methods) and hope to better my score the next time though it seems bleaker coz of reservation and anti GEM rules of iims..
@SAMMY88 its never about fathers or feeling of suppression its about the present, the way your argument is structured is flawed and would not help the cause of sophisticated outlook towards life.I see so many reserved category students around me with thoughts similar that is not helping the cause.IMO and NOMI...
@rebornNINJASuper dislike. So Do you think in this race of competition we will start in the same position or will general category students have a head start?PS:i apologize if i may have been rude in reply,it wasn't my intention to be so.
Utterly useless arguments, though they had a good intention behind them.
Reservations exist. Full stop.

Please don't dirty the FMS thread here. It would be better if those interested opened a separate thread on PG or discussed it via PMs.
@torqtech and @ all those who are either using reservation as a shortcut to get into prestigious b-schools and all those who are pro-reservation, i would urge all of you to take @sachin_nitrkl and @Nipunkumar and all the others who have left behind their reservations as your inspiration. Request you all to give cat without reservation certificates. At the same time i urge you people to "run behind excellence than run behind success", the way aamir khan says in 3 idiots.Excellence by cracking cat genuinely - getting admitted to top b-schools with scores of >97%. I know that many of those people who have got admitted through reservation over the past few years have to have a good work experience. I see that many such people have worked with good companies, prestigious companies(just go through the profiles of people on top b-school websites and you will see that people with reservation have worked in good companies like accenture, ACC cements, infosys, wipro, tcs, IBM to name a few and prestigious companies like Barclays plc, L&T;, ONGC, BPCL, IOCL, BHEL, IBM consulting etc to name a few)..which means that they are already in a better position to handle themselves. I urge all such people not to take reservation as a free-riding flying machine to land you at prestigious B-schools. You have enough resources to call yourself as a general candidate! In fact i dread to think about all those poor people of forward castes who are backward and don't have any means to come up in the society coz of the societal pandemic of reservation not being given to the really deserving. I dread to think about all those people of backward castes who are genuinely poor and not have been able to get their fair pie coz of the creamy layer of backward castes taking advantage of the reservation system.

@invinciblesk Thanks.. That's exactly what I wanted to know.
Guys, Let me try to end the reservations topic here. Firstly all the people who are against the reservation decide yourself that you are hurt because you didn't got selected or the reserved guy got selected.
obviously the answer to first question is ur hurt because ur not selected but not at the cost someone took your place.
the supreme court ruling clearly states that if u want to give reservation increase ur capacity u cant give seats at the cost of general ones.check for urself every college who gives reservation before and after reservation started.
and in the end if u still think someone is misusing it, so be it because we can't deny 99 underprivileged the rights because 1 people is wrongly using it.there is a flaw in system try to remove it instead of banning the system.
@torqtech Its now my turn to rebut your claims point-by-point "People from under- privileged backgrounds land up in not so good colleges because of lack of information and are not able to get good jobs." Ans: Do you really think their caste is really stopping them from cracking CAT? why don't you think with a broadened mind to include people on the basis of their income rather than on caste(in the process of saying backward castes, you are including those who are already well off and dont need reservation. you are excluding all those forward caste people who are poor, please broaden your thinking to include everyone)
Please don't include alcoholism in your analysis, Alcoholism is by choice. Alcoholism is not caste based, it doesn't have reservation as such. People from both forward and backward castes are affected by alcoholism.
You have to realize that there are people (infact many) from forward castes who are poor, who didnt have educated parents. So in all kinds of castes there are people who are poor and backward.
"We need people from such backgrounds to move up in life to positions where they can do something meaningful for their community. This purpose is not solved by providing reservation till graduate study." Ans: Why is it not solved i don't understand! As i said in my previous post, reserved people in graduation have good jobs if not damn good jobs. And by giving them reservation again, you are just making them free riders. You are not making them work hard to become excellent. And to afford MBA from top b-schools, you need to have at least 10 lakhs. Only all those who are well off can think of paying it back. So rarely does anyone who is poor gets admitted into one of the top b-schools.
Please don't end up in self-pity by saying that we can't work hard coz of family situations. I have many of my friends from forward castes who are earning, but are in a bad family situation. They are still working hard, cribbing about their family situation but are not indulging in self-pity of not having reservation. Such friends are not pursuing post graduation coz their family situation doesn't allow them to. I will show you many backward caste people who are well off but still use reservation! bloody free-riders! I dont wish to mention this, but coz of ur arguments i'm urged to. My father died when i was in seventh. But my mother has been working since then in jobs that are just enuf to support both of us and my education. Her only reason not to commit suicide is me. She doesn't crib about our family not having reservation, she doesn't crib about anything else. The only reason for her to do job - a hope that i will do well.
"Think about this for a second, they are not able to fight with you on intellectual level but still we are making them prove their worth among themselves." Ans: believe me, i have done my graduation from a college you never knew(certainly not NITs n IITs to which reserved people get admitted to for free). Luckily i ended up in a software job in a small company. I used to have the same mental block that i cant fight with others on an intellectual level and that CAT is for the rich people who can afford to take off some time to work hard. But that didn't stop me from working hard..Its all in the mind! Trust me get over that mental block, work hard for each and every moment, you will see yourself getting a good score.
"4th- People with work-ex should not be preferred. Now you are making an argument which would seem absolute rubbish to someone who knows that anyone with 3 years work ex is much more suited to an MBA course and this is proven by the fact that you cannot compete even to get in an MBA course in US with less than 3 years work-ex." Ans:You didnt get my point. I never said "3 years work ex is not suited to an MBA course". I said people with 2-4 years of work ex should be able to crack cat with high scores(because after working they will become broad minded) rather than settle for mediocre scores and becoming free riders, get a pathetic score of 60-90 and take advantage of the system and enter top b-schools like IIMs and FMS!
"Reservation does not divide people anywhere." Ans:Dude talk to general category people in IIMs about reservation, you will know! I have a cousin of mine who is in iimL. He talks of people who came with reservation as being free-riders because they didn't really reach that place by working hard. It seems they dont understand the value of IIM mba. They (though not all of them) don't do assignments, they don't do projects! they keep free-riding even there, depending on the others to their part of assignments or by just copying others assignments. ONE MUST REALLY KNOW THE VALUE OF WORKING HARD. ONLY THEN WILL THEY REALLY UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF AN IIM/FMS SEAT.
"Lastly- Hope someday everybody in this country would be equal with similar type of family conditions available to them and a chance of a life where they can fight on a level playing field with regards to intellectual capabilities." Ans:I hope the same, but certainly not through reservation on the basis of caste!! "Intellectual capabilities" that you are talking about is the same for everyone if they work hard to get themselves educated. It can't be given by giving free seats. It can be attained by WORKING HARD. Knowledge is attained, not bestowed by the grace of some pathetic reservation system..
"One last advice my friend- Try and gauge the reasons for existence of something when it has been put in place by much more eminent people than yourself (read Dr. B.R. Ambedkar), it will give you a chance of thinking like them and develop your perspective." Ans: My dear friend, it was put in place to last for a decade and not for eons! The decade criteria was set by people much more eminent than you (read Dr.Ambedkar). But people who cringe in self-pity and politicians together are worsening our system. (I say worsening coz many of the brilliant minds in our country are fleeing away coz of caste and religion politics, caste reservations)
@visionIIM-ACL sir..I think this thread has far outlived its purpose...So I sincerely request you to please close this thread until the shortlists are out..!
@IIMblackifmsxl Sorry and apologies for the spam guys! This is my last and final post about reservation..just wanted to educate people who think reservation is reasonable..
Hi friends...I have a doubt. anyone please clear it. I have a 6.2 GPA for my b tech. But when converted to percentage it becomes 59. iami eligible for FMS since they have asked 6 cgpa/percentage. In my certificate there is only 6.2 cgpa.. does fms authorities mean 6 cgpa or 60 percentage....please anybody help me....
Well we have a student here from NIFT . May be i can ask him and get back to you. Dont expect any question , the answer to which you wouldnt know. Just know "Why MBA" after Fashion and other HR questions.Know about your work-ex and expect questions from whatever u speak. Yours is an industry most people wont know much about , so make sure u speak wisely and speak in a way that works to your advantage.
